(Roche) Nutley soil remediation and facilities decommissioning activities completed throughout the Nutley campus, TRC identified 95 monitoring wells that had experienced some damage, mostly to the flush mount components (manways, pads). TRC evaluated the wells and determined that 19 of the damaged wells are not needed for ongoing Interim Remedial Measure (IRM) or long-term groundwater monitoring, and therefore should be decommissioned (i.e., formally abandoned by a New Jersey-licensed well driller). TRC proposes to have each well sealed for its entire open interval (or a variance from N.J.A.C. 7:9D will be obtained), and (in accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:9D), obstructions (if present) will be removed or drilled out prior to well sealing. The wells proposed for decommissioning, including decommissioning rationale, are listed in Table 1, attached, and their locations are shown on Figure 1, attached.
