COURSE STRUCTURE Course Description Certificate III in Hairdressing SIH30111 is the national qualification to work as a hairdresser, and is the standard entry level qualification for the hairdressing industry. The program will be delivered in our hairdressing training room that provides hands on, demonstrative learning. The students will have a combination of theory and practice performing tasks that they will be required to complete in a salon. Aims This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects in the hairdressing or hairdressing related industries. It also aims to enable participants to gain a recognized credential and make a more informed choice of vocation and career paths. Course Entry Requirements: Students need to have completed Certificate II in Hairdressing or equivalent. Minimum age of 16 years. Course Structure: This course is run 1 days per week over 2 years that includes self paced learning, and at least 120 hours of work experience. Employability Skill Communication Teamwork Industry/enterprise requirements for the qualification include: Use questioning and active listening to ascertain and respond to customer needs to ensure customers enjoy a positive experience that reflects salon values. Negotiate responsively with client to suggest new looks, products, and services and to ensure and confirm client satisfaction. Give clear instructions to apprentices and other team members and regularly carry out verbal instructions from other team members and supervisors. Read and interpret simple workplace documents. Complete simple written workplace forms and share work related information with other team members. Supervise apprentices and work collaboratively with other team members, supporting the team, respecting and understanding others views and giving and receiving feedback in the context of a salon environment where employees are expected to perform their individual tasks but also look for opportunities to assist others at peak client periods and to share technical expertise. Problem solving Demonstrate sensitivity to customer needs and concerns, anticipating problems and acting to avoid them where possible. QUALIFICATION PATHWAYS Due to the broad range of elective options available at Certificate IV and Diploma levels, there is also the potential to gain recognition against qualifications within other industry sectors that draw upon related skills, such as Retail, Business and Health. Certificate II in Hairdressing Skills and knowledge to begin a career in hairdressing, working under supervision as an assistant to other operators performing a limited range of hairdressing tasks. DIRECT ENTRY POINT: Individuals without industry experience or qualifications Certificate III in Hairdressing Skills and knowledge to work as a hairdressing practitioner in a salon team with responsibility for own outputs, and responsibility for the supervision of others including apprentices. This role includes providing a wide range of hairdressing services/ treatments to clients. Certificate IV in Hairdressing Skills and knowledge to work as a highly skilled hairdressing practitioner, providing technical leadership and/or training to other hairdressers and specialised, complex services/treatment Certificate IV in Trichology Skills and knowledge to work as a trichologist consulting with clients/patients developing and applying scalp treatment therapies, performing hair loss diagnosis and designing and applying hair loss therapies. Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management Skills and knowledge to work as a hairdressing salon manager, providing leadership to small teams and managing quality customer service.
