Welcome to the PHAB 2018 Education Brochure PHAB has been proud to bring inspirational motivational and commercial education to the South West over the last 10 years. The dedication, passion and energy from our educators will help support and provide knowledge and new skills to all our delegates. Hairdressing Shelley Pengilly Shelley is the UK Brand Ambassador for milk_shake hair products and part of the z.one concept creative team. Her passion is hair up and styling and she lives to push her creative boundaries. She is also an International Educator for milk_shake. Shelley has over 20 years of industry experience and is the owner and creative director of the award winning boutique salon Shelley s Salon in Wales, which has been successfully trading for over 12 years. Shelley s Personal accolades include winning Women s Stylist of the Year in 2014 and 2016, being a finalist for the Alternative Hair Show s International Visionary Award in 2016 and 2017, and being selected as a finalist in the Avant Garde hairdresser of the Year Category in the British hairdressing Awards in 2017. World of Up Dos Overview: This course is for any qualified stylists who want to improve their confidence in hair up and learn exciting new techniques. Goal: To leave the course feeling inspired and confident in the foundations and finishing of hair up. Content: Creating the perfect foundation for hair up and styling, Getting to know your kit and products and how best to use them, Hands-on workshop, Creating bespoke styles for clients, Consultation guide how to get to know exactly what your client wants. There are areas of this course that can be taken into Bridal styling. The course always involves classic styling techniques but with an added contemporary twist based on current trends and styles. Dates: Monday 16th April & Monday 1st October Cost: 159 + VAT What to Bring: FHK including heated tools Qualification: Graduate, Intermediate or Expert Braiding Overview: This course is for stylists of all levels who want to gain confidence in their braiding and learn new techniques. Goal: To leave the course inspired and with confidence in your braiding abilities. Content: This course will teach students how to create different types of braids using various techniques and products. Starting with a back to basics guide and working up to more creative braiding, the course is suitable for all skill levels. Drawing on inspiration from fashion and red carpet styles, Shelley will teach you how to adapt the latest trends to create gorgeous commercial styles. The course includes guidance in both commercial and editorial braiding including teaching you how to incorporate braids into hair up styling. Hairdressing Hary Denning Joss Smith-Reynolds I trained at Vidal Sassoon, an experience that has helped shape my personal style and approach. I have spent the last 15 years as a salon owner. Alongside countless fashion shows and photo shoots I still spend much of my time behind the chair. It s incredibly important to me to stay hands-on and to be in touch with the challenges you face every day. I am still driven by a passion to raise the profile and the knowledge in our industry and I believe that the only way to do this is to better educate ourselves to be more proficient at what we do it s never been just a job for me, it s my profession. My sessions are designed to be exciting, fun and personally challenging for both you and me. I understand how a great cut can have a positive impact on someone s life and I want to share that with you. Our education team have developed courses that are interesting and innovative, we recognise the different levels of learning and are able to flex the courses to the different needs of the group and the individual. Harry started his career with Toni&Guy working his way to top stylist whilst being involved with both session hair and photo shoots, also being offered the chance to teach in the Toni&Guy Academy as an Art Director. In order to broaden his horizons and learn different styles of work and techniques he moved to a smaller yet growing company. After working with Anthony Mascolo and Nick Irwin on the Inspirational Youth project where he was selected as one of ten inspiring young hairdressers in the UK, he then began to share his experiences and knowledge back in the salons colleges. His aim is to bring all this experience and knowledge to our courses at PHAB, his goal is to change the way we develop and progress learners into becoming inspired and motivated hairdressers. The revolution is coming. Smith + Denning - Taking it to the next level Overview: This cutting course focuses on how to build and create haircuts using easy to learn simple techniques. Your work will become more polished and creative. As your confidence and skill increases so will your clientele. The better you are, the busier you are. Content: Confidence Building, A diverse range of techniques for haircuts across all age groups, Finishing and Refining skills, Short hair cuts made easy, Classic and inverted bobs, Any questions answered. Suitability: Newly qualified stylists or hair professionals wanting to gain more knowledge around finishing, refining and personalising your hair cuts. Date: Monday 9th April & Monday 22nd October Duration: Full day, 10am - 4pm Cost: 149 + VAT What to Bring: FHK & Model Qualification: Graduate Smith + Denning - Breaking Down Bariers Overview: This course will push your creative boundaries and take you out of your comfort zone showing you the latest fashion led cutting techniques and equally important how to transfer that knowledge onto the salon floor. Content: Inspiration and motivation, New sectioning patterns, Short asymmetric styles, Undercuts and dis-connection, Techniques for layering long hair and fringes, Commercialising the latest fashion techniques, Any questions answered. Hairdressing James Beaumont James has been in the hairdressing industry for eleven years. His passions include styling and colouring both women and men, but his true specialty lies with barbering. He s been working with Keune UK since 2011, teaching, training and presenting. When he s is not away presenting, you ll find him in working in either of his two Devon salons. James has a natural flair for working with short hair and he s always focused on staying ahead of the curve. His client base comprises of 50% men s and 50% ladies styling and he s at the forefront of many trends and innovations in the Hairdressing world. During the course of his career, he s undertaken many editorial challenges, culminating in several barbering awards as well as recognition in magazines. Recently he was a finalist at the British Master Barber awards finalist and became a British Barber Association Hall of Fame Winner. Ladies Bespoke Short Styling Overview: This course will be a day of inspirational techniques from disconnections to texturizing and will inspire stylists, developing classic cutting techniques and showcasing the versatility of short hair. This course will be broken down into two sections with two demonstrations taking place in the morning and a practical session in the afternoon where James will be on hand to assist and advise stylists whist they work on models. Content: Disconnection, Pixie cuts, Textures, Creativity with short styles & Versatility. Hairdressing Park Avenue Overview: This course is designed for any hairdressers wanting to become more confident with R+Co products and to gain hands on product knowledge. Content: This course will feature a demonstration of the Garren Blowout followed by the half up style and ponytail into chignon. Brand Philosophy, consultation, demonstrations on toss dry, sectioning, direct blow-dry, half up style and chignon. In the afternoon stylists will have the opportunity to complete a practical session assisted by the Educator. Date: Monday 19th March Cost: 50 + VAT What to Bring: FHK, including heated tools. Model Qualification: Graduate, Intermediate, Expert Textured Bob Overview: This course is designed for any hairdresser wanting to become more confident with R+Co products and gain hands on product knowledge. Content: This course will feature a demonstration of The Textured Bob including styling, Brand philosophy, consultation, executing the cut, product choice, hand styling and heat styling. In the afternoon stylists will have the opportunity to complete a practical session assisted by the Educator. Course Educator: Jason Hall Date: Monday 21st May Cost: 50 + VAT What to Bring: FHK, including heated tools. Model Qualification: Graduate, Intermediate, Expert Advanced Curling Iron Overview: This course is designed for any hairdresser wanting to become more confident with R+Co products and gain hands on product knowledge. Content: This course will feature a demonstration of the Advanced Curling Iron Set, used to create a modern Rita Hayworth look. Brand philosophy, product choice, step by step curling tutorial including finishing touches. In the afternoon stylists will have the opportunity to complete a practical session assisted by the Educator. Date: Monday 8th October Cost: 50 + VAT What to Bring: FHK, including heated tools. Model Qualification: Graduate, Intermediate, Expert Course Educator: Natasha Briggs Leading R+Co salon product knowledge education, Natasha has immersed herself in the R+Co know-how becoming a dynamic mentor, leading teams at both Milan and London shows on the fashion circuit. Natasha has quickly become the go-to with a solid working knowledge of the complete brand. R+Co Global Artist for the UK & Ireland is AIPP global award winner Jason Hall. His catalogue of work has been noted within the British Hairdressing Awards as Scottish Hairdressers of the Year and specialist category Men s Hairdresser of the year finalists. With 30 years of industry experience and an enviable body of creative work, Jason leads the UK + Ireland Education team. Course Educator: Natasha Pearson Known for her expertise in both editorial and avant-garde styling, Natasha has had a wealth of work published with a global footprint. Part of the Fellowship Of British Hairdressing and similarly, Natasha s education standards are respected having educated across the US and Europe. Barbering Tom Chapman Tom is a barber, educator and lover of men s hair. He works with many top brands to help test and develop new innovations before they hit the market, as well as developing how-to videos and images. He s also a celebrated session stylist and his work has graced front covers. Tom opened Tom Chapman Hair Design in Torquay UK five years ago and has been educating all over the world since. He s been on stages in the UK, the US, Brazil and across Europe. He s been a competition finalist four times, including for the Wahl Barber of the Year contest. In September 2015, Tom founded The Lions Barber Collective, which started as a group of international barbers raising awareness for suicide prevention. The collective has grown and now also promotes mental health awareness with the barbershop as a safe space for men to talk at its centre. He s in the midst of developing BarberTalk, a form of suicide intervention and mental health awareness course designed especially for barbers. Bespoke Beginners Barbering Overview: This is a great day where you will learn how to create those classic looks which are very current and on trend. We will have a full day with demo s in the morning showing you exactly how to take these client pleasers to the next level. In the afternoon a workshop will take place (so don t forget that model!) Tom will spend time with each stylist making sure to help you iron out those techniques which will set you apart from the rest. Each day will hold a discussion before to ensure we get the most out of our time for those attending. Who Should attend: Stylists with less than 2 years clipper experience. On this day you will learn about: Clipper care, Tapering, Blending/fading, Building weight, Creating strong masculine shapes, Hairlines, Styling, Blow drying, Product knowledge, Crowns. Dates: Monday 5th February & Monday 6th August Cost: 149 + VAT What to Bring: FHK - Scissors, Razor with a guard, clippers plus guards. Model Required. Qualification: Graduate, Intermediate Bespoke Advanced Barbering Overview: On this Advanced Fading day you will learn how to use fading as your ally. It is a great tool which many of our clients ask for all the time in many different ways, so on this day you will be shown how to use skin fades as well as the more adventurous techniques such as 4am fades and using your detailers to create more points of interest. In the afternoon a workshop will take place (so don t forget that model!) Tom will spend time with each stylist making sure to help you iron out those techniques which will set you apart from the rest. Each day will hold a discussion before to ensure we get the most out of our time for those attending. Who Should attend: Stylists with more than 2 years clipper experience.
