Welcome to our annual bull sale and a special thanks to all those who have purchased cattle from us in the past. We would not be here without the support you have given us. This years bulls result from many years of effort striving to improve the quality of our cow herd as we increase the productivity of the calves they produce. All of our cows are born and raised on the ranch. Our oldest herd sire, Hilltop Alliance 9205, was the top selling bull in the 2010 Hilltop Angus sale. He has a stellar maternal pedigree and has produced outstanding daughters in our herd. Some say his sire Sitz Alliance 7544 was the best son of Sitz Alliance 6595. Sadly we lost him due to a stifle injury at the age of 8 years. His calves have consistently ratioed above herd average weaning {101WR} while maintaining a moderate birth weight {98BR}. Limited semen available. AI sires this year include, SAV Bismarck 5682, Connealy Packer 547, Connealy Arsenal 2174, Apex Windy 078, and SAV Resource 1441 that did not disappoint us. The new herd bull, OPP Upward 507, was the high selling bull at the 2016 OPP Angus sale in Dickinson, ND. He is showing more calving ease than expected with good performance. We have and will continue to select top AI sires that we feel will improve our herd. This year Darin and Ashley Pankratz will again be selling some bulls in our sale. Darin has been a good neighbor and been helping us out when we we need extra hands. We feel he is on the right track and happy to give him some exposure. We will feed the bulls free until May. They will be fertility tested in April. If a bull does not pass, he will be replaced {if we have a suitable replacement} or a credit/refund will be given. We stand behind our cattle. Hello Everyone, I wanted to start out by saying Thank you to those who purchased a bull from us last year, we appreciate the interest in our bulls and would like to express our gratitude. Also a big Thank you to Edwin for feeding the bulls along with his and giving us the opportunity to put some in his sale. I would like to talk a little bit about our ranching operation to give a little background on the genetics I am offering. We run a majority of commercial cattle, it s really a no frills operation, we re just a working ranch making a living with cattle. We started raising a few of our own bulls for our own use in order to use genetics we thought were important for our own cow herd. We have been using our own bulls from AI sires for about 4 years now, and using good moderate maternal bulls has really added value to our herd. We ve been working on producing moderate sized cows with fertility that can wean a good calf by using sires that have a pedigree known for producing good cows. Feed efficiency is also an important factor, a smaller cow just eats less hay and can put on weight faster when they hit green grass in the spring. These are some of the things we ve been working on here with our own cattle because in this industry controlling inputs can be an important factor in the bottom line. We ve been selling our heifer calves to the same customer for 3 years now for making bred heifers and I think it s a good compliment to our program because it shows the maternal strengths we strive for in our herd. This year we re offering three bulls that I think would add to any program looking to moderate mature size and add some good maternal genetics to their replacement program. Two are AI sired by Coleman Charlo 0256, he offers a maternal pedigree, calving ease, moderate mature height and a +24.20 $EN. The other one is a DP Dash 606 son, DP Dash 606 is an embryo calf I raised by Sitz Dash out of my first donor cow, a Basin Rainmaker 654x daughter from the Coleman Angus Program. DP Dash 606 had a 680 lb weaning weight, is a calving ease bull I have used on heifers and has a +6.91 $EN. I chose to offer these three bulls for a couple reasons, after having a pretty cold and snowy calving season this spring we had a pretty dry second half of the summer and the cows to these bulls raised a good calf and bred back first cycle despite the stress factors. To me fertility and mothering ability count a lot toward herd performance and I strive to work on building a herd of productive moderate and efficient cows. The two sons of Coleman Charlo are from first calf heifers and the DP Dash bull is out of a 12 year old Sinclair Rito Legacy 3R9 daughter that has a good udder and very good feet, she weighed 1275 at weaning time and is a very moderate framed cow. One of the Charlo sons and the DP Dash son would work on heifers. The other Charlo son would work well on cows to add a good maternal influence to daughters.
