Engraving at Viage Siversmith At Viage SIversmith, we have three fuy trained engraving professionas, and as a company we ve been engraving for amost ten years creating tons of unique items and set ups. Our engravers work on a Signature Engraving machine which uses an a diamond tipped spinde head. The machine is computerized, which makes the engravers job much easier. However, they do have to ine up the item being engraved in the machine precisey for the engraving to be perfect. Because of the type of engraving machine we use, we can engrave on many types of surfaces incuding amost any meta, gass, pastics, and stone. With over fifty types of fonts and symbos, amost any item can be personaized. Another speciaty of this unique machine is the abiity to transfer handwritten items. Anyone s handwriting can be transferred digitay into our engraving computer and used to make the engraving even more specia. Once the initia computer transfer is done, the handwriting font can be used over and over again. A new feature of this engraving machine we wi soon be offering is the abiity to pierce meta to cut out names, singe etters, and numbers. This new add on wi be avaiabe this year so keep an ear out for more news! Rubies, Rubies, Rubies! Juy s Birthstone This red to pink gem is a rarity in the gem word and is the month of Juy s birthstone. Ruby is the red variety of the minera corundum, one of the hardest mineras on Earth. It s a cousin to sapphire and sight traces of mineras such as chrome, iron, titanium or vanadium are responsibe for the red coor. These mineras are a extremey hard making rubies a 9 on the Mohs scae out of 10. The history of Ruby mining dates back more than 2,500 years ago. Most of the rubies that we set are from India, though rubies are found in micro-deposits across the gobe. Indian rubies tend to have a brighter magenta to red cooring. They have a great uster and deep coor, which some of the traditiona rubies can ose because of the transucence. At Viage Siversmith, we ove the unique! One of the most unique coor combination of stones that we carry is ruby in zoisite. The green zoisite rock carries back hornbende minera incusions and arge, mosty opaque, ruby. Cut and poished ruby in zoisite specimens have a great price range that wi vary according to the quaity and presence of ruby. Most specimens wi dispay three coors; green, back and red. Zoisite is a reative to tanzanite and is ony found in Tanzania. Ruby is considered to be the birthstone for Cancer (the sign of the crab) and reate to those born between June 22nd and Juy 22nd. Ruby is associated with the quaities of devotion, integrity, courage and happiness. The traditiona metaphysica properties are vitaity, confidence and strength. The heaing properties of rubies are reputed to be effective for heath probems reating to the bood and infection and increasing positive thought patterns. Ruby is aso used to enhance energy, generosity and to bring prosperity and success. Hecho a mano is a famiy business, simiar to ours, which started in Taxco, Mexico. One man s interest in meta working drove him to earn the trades of apidary and siversmithing. He then passed it on to his son and the generations to come. This created an extremey taented famiy of siversmiths. Now, they produce their gorgeous one of a kind jewery for a seect few stores across the country. Hecho a mano is known for their impeccabe detai, creativity, and anima work. The pieces that they create for Viage Siversmith start with our stones, which we have prepared by cutting and poishing. Then, the stones are sent to Mexico where they turned into amazing creations. The famiy, because of their impeccaby detaied work, create amazing jewery which incude their speciaty, anima motifs. Some of the pieces made for us incude a green turquoise and siver mermaid neckace (pictured to the eft), a wrap around aigator neckace with maachite eyes, an eegant caa iy neckace made with a turquoise stem and a 16k god bossom, and a stering octopus made with turquoise inay. This octopus motif was originay designed for Jacque Cousteau s daughter who wears it with pride. Recenty, Hecho has done amazing designs for our most spectacuar stone cabochons (pictured to the eft). The siver on these settings are high shine and brushed textured with accenting swirs. This beauty is formed when manganese is dissoved by ground water and combines with a carbonate materia and then drips off the ceiing of caves and crevices deep underground. The name rhodochrosite means rose-coored, and it is that coor that the stone widey known for. Because the stone has a saturated pink tone (a very hard natura minera coor to find), it is highy sought after. There are two main types of rhodochrosite. The ess common type, is the gem quaity, semi transucent, a over deep pink stone. The bacon rhodochrosite which is stripped pink and white is found more commony but is equay beautifu. Fokore states that rhodochrosite was worshiped by the Incas. They caed it Incan Rose because they beieved that it was the bood of their former kings and queens turned to stone. Metaphysicay, rhodochrosite is thought to be a very powerfu stone that is used to hep the fourth chakra and ceanse the heart chakra. Its powers incude attracting ove, heping reease past psychoogica issues, and improving eyesight. Rhodochrosite is thought to reieve stress and is used by heaers to ceanse the aura.
