We have always taken pride in our neat and classy appearance! The care you give your uniform will be obvious to the judges and to our competitors. Marcher Guidelines Marcher Uniform Checklist The following items will be issued to you:! Garment Bag! Garment Hanger! Jacket! Gauntlets! Bib Pants! Green Shoe Bag! Show/Band Camp T-shirt! White T-Shirt! Black crew length socks! Gloves or Wrist Guards! Shoes (must be purchased refer to Misc. Uniform Info)! Shako/Beret (brought home during Parade season) If alterations are to be done, there will be a request form attached to your uniform. You must follow the guidelines listed within this document for altering the bib pants. Any major repairs should be brought to the attention of the Uniform Committee as soon as possible. Summer Marcher Uniform Checklist " Show/Band t-shirt " Black dress shorts (no gym type shorts/must be walking length) " White tennis shoes (mostly white) " Plain white ankle length socks " Black belt if your shorts have belt loops Note that hats will not be allowed. Marcher Uniform Standards While in uniform, students are required to follow these standards:! No hair is allowed to touch the collar! No jewelry of any kind. NO EXCEPTIONS!! No make-up or nail polish! Full cut undergarments (no thong underwear)! Only crew length plain black socks! White t-shirt (the one provided to you)! No eating or drinking permitted while in uniform (except for water)! No gum! All items used to secure hair must blend with hair color! Optional plain black thermal underwear (you provide) Page 3
Marcher Alteration Guidelines Bib Pants If you have a tailor hem your pants, please take the following checklist. DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE FABRIC FROM ANY PART OF THE BIB PANTS! " Adjust the straps to achieve proper crotch position. " Measure pants while wearing marching shoes. " Stand on a hard surface, not on carpet. Stand straight and adjust bib straps. Pants should not hang unreasonably low in the crotch area. " Measure 2 ½ to 3 inches from the floor to the back crease. " Make sure the front crease just misses the top of the shoe. " Hem pants with hand stitching only. Catch only a thread or two on the pants legs. " Use a pressing cloth and steam iron to press the hem flat. Do NOT apply iron directly to pants. " If the bib straps need to be tacked, use hand stitching only. Catch only a thread or two in the material. IF PANTS SEEM TOO SHORT, YOU HAVE MEASURED PROPERLY! Jacket There are snaps inside the sleeves to make them adjustable to three lengths. DO NOT MAKE ANY ALTERATIONS TO THE JACKET! Page 4
Marcher Uniform Home Cleaning and Care DO NOT DRY CLEAN! Laundering Instructions After each performance, remove jacket and bib pants from garment bag to air out. Use only non-chlorine detergent. Do not use liquid fabric softener. PRE-TREAT STAINS BEFORE WASHING: Apply recommended stain treatment and scrub with a toothbrush or other like tool before placing in the washing machine. Zip up jacket and turn inside out to protect the buttons and gold fabric portion. Wash the bib pants and jacket together on delicate cycle (cold water wash and cold water rinse) DO NOT wash other clothes with the uniform. Remove the jacket and bib pants during the spin cycle and hang immediately. - Hang jacket on a separate hanger and bib pants from legs to air dry. DO NOT PUT PANTS OR JACKET IN THE DRYER To remove any wrinkles: Jacket use a steamer, not a regular iron Bib Pants use a warm iron with a pressing cloth. DO NOT APPLY IRON directly to pants STAIN GUIDE If there's a stain, sponge with water or treat with an appropriate non-chlorine stain remover: Spray and Wash, Lestoil Simple Green for hard to remove grass stains or dirt rings around collar and sleeves Carbona Stain Devil" there are a variety of removers for different types of stains Whink for rust stains Aerosol hair spray or rubbing alcohol will remove ballpoint ink stain GAUNTLETS Air dry laying flat after each performance If washing is needed: o Make sure to hook the Velcro closure together to prevent picking of fabric. o DO NOT wash with the bib pants or jacket. o Use only non-chlorine detergent, Do not use liquid fabric softener. o Wash on delicate cycle (cold water wash and cold water rinse). o Hang with Velcro hooked over a hanger to air dry. GLOVES Hand wash in cold water, then lay flat to air dry. SHOES Label each shoe with your name using a permanent marker. After each performance, wipe with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grass. GARMENT BAG Air dry Hanging Instructions Always fold pants along the crease (seam to seam) and then hang, folded in half, over the lower bar of the hanger. Always hang the jacket with the jacket zipper facing the zipper of the garment bag (zipper to zipper). Gauntlets should be laid flat (attached via Velcro) and put in the bottom of the garment bag. Gloves, white t-shirt, and black socks should be put in the bottom of the garment bag. Shoes should be put in the green shoe bag, and the shoe bag should be looped over the garment bag hook. Page 5

Miscellaneous Marcher Uniform Info Hats/Shako: Your shako will be stored at the school in a hat box. Inside the hat is a plastic bag that will be used in case of rain. It can also be used to sit on during football games and competitions. If you lose the plastic bag, ask for another. Tuba players wear a beret instead of a shako. Plumes: If plumes (feathers) are worn, they will be provided just prior to the performance and then collected afterwards by a uniform chaperone. Plumes should only be handled with gloves. The oils on your hands will damage it. Shoes: Your shoes are manufactured specifically for marching. They are black with black soles. They will be ordered and purchased through the Uniform Committee. The cost is $36.00 (cash or checks payable to Cary Band Boosters). Shoes will be sized during band camp. Shoes should be kept in your Green Shoe Bag and hung on your garment bag. Do not store your socks in the green shoe bag. This bag is NOT a Ditty Bag (refer to Ditty Bag information). Gloves: Gloves are worn by all instrument players except percussionists. One pair will be provided at no cost. A second pair can be purchased for $6.00 during band camp, after practices or before competitions. A second pair is HIGHLY recommended. White T-Shirt: A plain white t-shirt is to be worn under your uniform jacket and is a part of your uniform. One shirt is provided at no cost. A second shirt can be purchased for $3.00. Show Shirt: One show/band camp T-shirt will be provided on the last day of band camp. This will be part of your summer uniform. You will be required to wear this shirt at different times throughout the season. Take good care of your show shirt. There may not be extras available for purchase. Black Crew Socks: You will need to wear solid black crew length socks with your uniform. The socks should be kept in your Ditty bag, NOT your green shoe bag or garment bag. One pair of black socks is provided at no cost. A second pair can be purchased for $3.00. Ditty Bag: A Ditty Bag is a small sports bag, backpack or some other type of small bag that can be closed. Permanently label this bag and contents with your name. You will need to provide this bag and it MUST accompany you to all performances. The following items are suggested for the Ditty Bag: " 2 white t-shirts (1 is required) " 2-pairs of black gloves (1-pair is required) " 2-pairs of black crew length black socks (1-pair is required) " Items to secure/pin-up hair (bobby pins, barrettes, bands, etc.) " Personal care items (hair brush, deodorants, etc.) " Change of clothes and Show/Band Camp T-shirt (when needed) Page 7

White Tennis Shoes & White ankle/crew socks for Parades May use Summer Uniform White shoes and socks.! SPANX or like brand of undergarment (full cut undergarment)! Garment Bag Summer Guard Uniform Checklist " Show/Band T-Shirt " Black yoga pants " White tennis shoes (mostly white) " Plain white ankle length socks Note that hats will not be allowed. Hair & Make-Up: Hair styles and make-up will be worn the same for all Color Guard and/or will be determined by the Instructor. Ditty Bag: A Ditty Bag is a small sports bag, backpack or some other type of small bag that can be closed. Permanently label this bag and contents with your name. You will need to provide this bag and it MUST accompany you to all performances.
