Family Tech with Christina February 18, 2013 at 2:40 pm by Christina Tynan-Wood 0 Twitter 0 Share 0 Email Tablets have, apparently, been selling like hotcakes. According to IDC, 52.5 million units sold worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2012. It seems like everyone has one or more than one. Last year, only a handful of the people I saw on planes or restaurants sported one. But now everywhere I go, the entire room is staring at one of their own. But what they all seem to need with rare exception are cuter cases. If everyone were to set their tablets down at once, they would all look the same. Who would know which belonged to whom? I find this tragic. I love outfitting my gear with a new bag or case. It protects my investment and makes it mine. If you are like me and also one of the 52.5 million who recently got a new tablet and are thinking about buying your gear something pretty to wear, here a few suggestions. Silk Road by Keka, $39 Snap your ipad in this Boho beauty to protect it. And you will no longer blend in with the masses of bland geeks. The case will also serve as a stand so it also adds function to your device. If by some awful (unlikely) chance you show up at a party where another fashionista s tablet is wearing the same dress, don t worry. You can have your name printed on it ($10) to really make it yours. Lots of patters to choose from. Jack Spade Striped Cover for Kindle Paperwhite, Red / Navy, $59 Page 4 of 9
This simple, graphic cover would make a great gift for a man, I suppose. But aren t men are usually happy with black? This bold red stripe, with a name label inside the front cover reminds me of old-school school supplies. Speck WanderFolio for Kindle Fire, $40 I love this case that also serves as a wallet. It s not much bigger than a woman s big wallet but also keeps your Kindle safe. The Kindle snaps into a plastic cradle no elastic corner holders here and closes with a secure elastic closure. Nice. Dylan s Candy Bar Tablet Cases, $40 $60 These cases for most tablets are so sweet! They are covered in candy and come from a candy store. Bright enough to find in your biggest bag and sure to make you smile. Who doesn t need a little calorie-free sugar in their day? kate spade Pebbled Leather Kindle Fire Case, $99 Page 5 of 9
This pale blue, pebbled leather Kindle cover from Kate Spade is a bit rich for my blood. But it s certainly pretty. Want more ideas? Come to my GeekGirlfriends.com blog. I ll be covering more cases there in the coming weeks. I ll also be giving some away.
