Autumn Newsletter Dear Friends, Elizabeth Richard Wow, it s been a long time since I have sat down to write that phrase. For those of you who have been on the mailing for years, you know all about this newsletter. If I remember correctly, this newsletter was born sometime in the summer of 2008, after we had opened our doors in Waterbury. It was printed solely on my rickety ink jet printer in my office, tri-folded by my staff and I, hand sealed and stamped, delivered to the Middlebury post office for mailing. As time went on, I would get more and more positive feedback about my newsletter, and how much it was enjoyed. We produced the piece in house until the list had grown to over 3,000 people. At that point, we could no longer justify the time and expense of doing it all ourselves, and so we began to send it out to be printed. And then, when the mailing list began to grow to over 5,000 people, we decided to go to email rather than snail mail. And so, sometime in 2012, the last paper newsletter was mailed. I often thought about the newsletter over the years, and how much I enjoyed writing them, and how much I imagined that you all enjoyed reading them. This summer, after almost two long years since my grandmother had passed, I finally had the strength and courage to clean out my grandparents apartment in my home. I had put it off long enough, and it was time. As I cleaned out a drawer in my grandmother s nightstand, I came across a copy of one of my shop newsletters. I put it aside, and brought it upstairs with me later that day. I made a cup of coffee and sat down to read it. It was funny, it was the March/April 2012 issue. I think it was the last one, as a matter of fact. There was nothing particularly interesting about it. Not until I flipped it over. There, at the end, I had dedicated it to my grandfather, who had passed that January. She had kept that one issue close by. I never knew. So once I found that issue, I promised myself that I would again sit and write my newsletters, to let you all know what was new within the four walls of the shop, and of my life. I thought that maybe, just maybe, you all would enjoy making this journey with me, once again. So welcome, I hope you enjoy Part Two just as much as you enjoyed Part One.
We just wrapped up our first year in Woodbury on August 15th. We decided to keep the year marker low key, as our true business anniversary arrives in March. Our first year in our new location has been great! There have been many things that we have enjoyed about Woodbury and the new space, for instance: the parking at the new shop is just fabulous! There is plenty of well lit parking, and it is completely accessible for strollers, walkers, canes and wheelchairs. We have two large windows to decorate at the new shop. We are having great fun with these windows. My daughter Gillian, the indispensable Maria and friends Paula and Nicole are all lending a hand (and their creative genius) in creating visually stimulating window displays for each season. The inside of our shop is open and airy, with high ceilings, interesting architectural elements, and fabulous furniture to display our goods on. When we left Waterbury, we left all of our display pieces behind. We used our creative side to make something from nothing, making tables from old abandoned doors, shutters, windows, etc. Each and every time I walk through the shop, I beam with pride. Arthur and I created this. From nothing. With our hands. It really is an amazing feeling. Of course the space in Woodbury is fab, but the PEOPLE that we have met have been even more fab!!! We have met so many wonderful new folks from all over the area, and we are just so fortunate to have so many new customers to call friend. The area is brimming with friendly people who are eager to share a smile, a story. We are thankful to have had such a warm welcome from the people of the region. That being said, we do indeed miss our Waterbury roots. You all know this is where Arthur and I hail from, and old habits die hard. We have missed it so much, in fact, that we arranged for a series of Trunk Shows this fall at Viso Bello Day Spa in Middlebury (special THANKS to Dan Settani and staff!!!). We just wrapped up our first one, and it was great to see familiar faces show up to support. We want to bring bits and pieces of the Woodbury shop a little closer to you, to make it a little more convenient for you to do some shopping, or even to just come in and catch up with me! Watch your email or Facebook for the next Trunk Show opportunity! But if you re need of some Retail Therapy (and who isn t?!), I have some good news for you!! We have some great new things arriving at the Woodbury Shop! Let me tell you about some of them Most favorite for Christmas 2016??? The ORNAMENTS, of course! Maria and I handpicked each and every ornament that you will find in the shop this year. They hail from Old World Christmas, and each one has a tremendous amount of detail and charm. Once again, we have followed themes, from food and wine to baby and ladies to family and gentlemen and so much more. I cannot believe how many ornaments have already sold and we are just barely in October! Our final shipment of ornaments arrives on October 10th. Trees will dot the shop next week as well, but don t delay, get in now to see what all the fuss is about. Once the ornaments are gone, they are gone!
Brand new Christmas goodies from Lenox have arrived, and have made their way out onto our floor. The pricing is fantastic, we have everything available to you at 50% off of the Lenox listed price!!!! That is going to be our price each and every day, from now until Christmas, so be sure to grab this good deal now before someone else does!! There are TONS of awesome new pieces, I ll be sure to feature some on Facebook in the coming days. Fun Fact: While you all are sweeping up tinsel and pine needles during the first week of January, me and my staff are in Atlanta GA shopping for the following Christmas! We NEVER stop thinking about Christmas! Are you a collector of Villeroy & Boch? Of Wedgwood or Waterford? Keep your eyes peeled for their Holiday offerings to hit the shop by the third week of October. Villeroy & Boch offers classic European Christmas designs that are unique and timeless. If you are a collector of Waterford, I highly suggest that you pre-order your Waterford pieces, as we have experienced low stock situations in the last year or two. Call me or email me to get your order in now! Also just in, we totally restocked our bar. Well, we restocked our bar accessories, that is! It is the time of year for indoor entertaining and cocktail parties, and we have you covered. From fun, whimsical coaster sets to drink markers to corkscrews (and of course, my favorite, wine aerators), we have it all back in stock! You asked for it all summer long, and it is finally here! Caspari napkins, guest towels and paper plates. We have a selection for your fall entertaining needs, and our holiday picks will be in shortly. It pays to tell us what you are looking for!! If any of you know Dorothy on our staff, you might know that she loves linens! She collects antique linens, but she also enjoys getting in an order of embroidered towels. We received our fall order, and they have been flying out the door! Our holiday linens are due in any day, so be sure to shop early for the best selection. Need to add a little whimsy to your kitchen? Give Kate Spade All In Good Taste a look. It s fun, it s colorful, and best of all, it s affordable. Choose from baking dishes, pottery, non-stick pans and more. It s a great way to give yourself a little treat without feeling guilty at all! Scarves are still all the rage this season, and we have some of the most beautiful scarves that you can find. We have silk scarves, we have blend scarves, we have colors and patterns for everyone. We are adding to our collections every week, so stop in often to see what is new.
When we phased Vineyard Vines from the shop, we left a whole lotta guys (and gals) with a tear in their eye. I spent the better part of 2016 looking around at Trade Shows, following preppy Instagram feeds (exhausting work!), and found a line to test out in the shop!! Bird Dog Bay makes its official debut in our shop this weekend!! For those of you who do not know BDB, let me give you a little background: Founded in 2006, Bird Dog Bay is a men s apparel and accessories company hailing from Chicago, IL. Steve Mayer, Bird Dog Bay s founder and chief creative, serves as Bird Dog Bay s sole illustrator in the illustration and release of each collection, famous for their sophisticated whimsy and original designs. With a selection ranging from men s neckties and bow ties to Italian-milled dress shirts and Peruvian pima cotton socks, Bird Dog Bay is sure to have the perfect gift for any gentleman. Shop the latest collection exclusively at Elizabeth Richard! OMG, the socks are so soft, the ties are so gorgeous, I cannot even stand it!! We have caps, button downs shirts, boxers, lounge pants, ties, and my favorite, bow ties. Get your guy down here, and have him looking his best this season. I love to be a trendsetter, not a trend follower, and I am thinking that you do too, so be sure to come down and check out Bird Dog Bay!!!!
