THE MCMANUS: DUNDEE S ART GALLERY & MUSEUM FESTIVAL OF MUSEUMS MCMANUS 150: THE PEOPLE S STORY Sat 20 May, 10am-4.30pm EXHIBITIONS OUT OF THE FRAME: SCOTTISH ABSTRACTION Continuing until Sun 28 May 2017 Rejecting traditional subject matter, abstraction gave artists the opportunity to explore colour, form and emotional expression in works that were no longer constrained by the picture frame. Revel in artworks by Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Calum Innes and a major new acquisition by Victoria Morton. SENSE OF PLACE Continuing throughout 2017 How have Scottish artists represented the world around them? Drawn from Dundee s nationally significant fine art collection, this display focuses on landscape painting and includes work by the Glasgow Boys, Scottish Colourists, James McIntosh Patrick and Joan Eardley. Keep your eye open for changes as new works are hung to replace items going out on loan. FIRE AND STONE Thur 6 April Sun 8 Oct 2017 An exhibition exploring the archaeology of Monifieth Laws and the process behind creating contemporary responses to ancient metal and stone artefacts. THE MARITIME QUARTER Opening Mon 1 May 2017 A new permanent exhibition of ship models highlighting Dundee s rich maritime history and the City s links to the wider world. Including model sailing ships, war ships and half hulls, the exhibition will also feature some of the recently acquired DP&L models. DUNDEE PRESERVES Opens Sat 10 Jun, continuing throughout 2017 This show provides a rare opportunity to glimpse some of the behind-the-scenes work carried out by Museum staff in caring for and researching the City's collections. See what our own Museum conservator has been working on over the last few months. MUSEOGRAPHY: CALUM COLVIN REFLECTS ON THE MCMANUS COLLECTIONS Fri 7 Jul Sun 22 Oct 2017 This project by Scottish artist and Head of Contemporary Art Practice at the University of Dundee, Calum Colvin, will take the form of a series of strategically placed interventions of photographic artworks throughout The McManus permanent galleries. Creating a collection within the collection, Colvin s dynamic framed artworks, portraits, installations and stereoscopic presentations will offer a new insight into Dundee s rich collections. Be part of our biggest Festival of Museums event to date as we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of The McManus. Drop in throughout the day for family activities, live music, poetry, dance, guided tours and living history performances all inspired by the Museum s past, present and future generations of visitors and supporters!
