INSPIRATION QUOTATION Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do. - Edgar Degas APRIL 2012 - NEWSLETTER NEXT MEMBERS MEETING Editor: Jennifer Blacquiere Telephone: (905)960-1336 Email: jblacquiere@rogers.com A note from Jennifer Blacquiere: APRIL 10, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. 56 Victoria St. Aurora 2nd floor Hello SOYRA members, How lucky are we to have these beautiful early bursts of spring to inspire us to be creative! Being a part of this group has opened up a whole new world for me! I ve been an artist for as long as I can remember, but never been a part of such a wonderful network of talented people. I m very excited to be involved! There are many new faces to the SOYRA executive! Taking over the tremendous task or Programme Committee are Margo Allen, Carol Tremayne and Philppa Hajdu. We can t thank Heather Miller and Ann Wilkinson enough for providing us with such a great and varied program thoughout the years. Thank you Heather and Ann for an outstanding job! Nicol just looks within her own artwork for a very clear reflection of who she is and it s easy to see why. Her functional artwork incorporates mirror into every piece. Not just any mirror. Nicol uses discarded/unwanted mirror that could have ended up in a landfill. The reclaimed mirror becomes the functional focal point of her distinctive abstract art. Her eco-friendly outlook is further expressed by the inclusion of other found items that imbue her work. Nicol credits her mother as being her most inspiring teacher. She grew up influenced by many forms of art and creativity, which led her to a 10 year career in advertising before she shifted gears to full-time parenting. Her passion for art never waned and she always found ways to express and hone her creativity. Nicol paints part time at her in house studio and manages the ACE Bakery Cafe, which also nourishes her creative soul. Nicol s art is a true reflection of her creative passion. She believes that each of her works also becomes a reflection both literally and figuratively - of the person who chooses it. Take a look. See for yourself. www.artseenic.blogspot.com PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT: SOYRA endeavors to hire interesting artists for demonstrations and instructors for the workshop series. But when you sign up and do not come the artists still must be paid. Please remember that by signing up for a workshop, you are indicating your intentions to attend and are requested to pay whether or not you attend. Of course, things happen, but please call at least 48 hours in advance to have your name removed from the list and a refund mailed to you. NOTE: some workshops will cost more than others due to the nature of the course, the location or the instructor.

APRIL 17TH WORKSHOP Making Art Together (No cost) April 17th. 7:00pm -10:00pm. The Programme Committee is excited to invite you and especially new members to spend an evening creating with others. It is a great opportunity to meet your new Programme Committee and let them know of your interests, and to meet and get to know other members, long standing and new.
