Deadline for us to Julie Desimone ('04) Four years ago I left my retail life behind and moved to Las Vegas to pursue a dream of a lifetime- working for Cirque du Soleil. "Mystere" at Treasure Island Hotel was the first Cirque du Soleil show to open as a permanent show on the Las Vegas strip 18 years ago. As Costume Fitter, I work with 24 wardrobe technicians and 85 artists from 24 countries. Almost 9,000 shows later, my job is to maintain the inventory and quality of the costumes, and keep the artistic integrity of the show as perfect as it was when it opened almost two decades ago. I work with the designer, artistic director and pattern makers at the Montreal Headquarters. I take extremely in-depth measurements of each artist and fit each made-to-measure costume. We make alterations in Vegas and I report to Montreal the alterations and pattern changes that

Please inquire at 978-465-0184 The Tent! DESIGNER OPEN CALL: The TENT at Boston Fashion Week 2012 Vegas and I report to Montreal the alterations and pattern changes that need to be made. Each costume is made to each individual artists' specifications-very couture! Pieces are made in materials like raw silk, linen, organza, and moleskin. They are laser printed, screen printed, dip dyed, and hand painted. Our bungee costume has over 2,000 sequins on it. They are laid out in a particular color pattern and are glued individually by hand! Most costumes are manufactured in Montreal, but we build 15% here in Vegas. While we have the capabilities of making everything here in Vegas, there is simply not enough time in the day to do it. In addition to gluing sequins, we do over 45 loads of laundry a day, lots of daily maintenance and costume inventory replenishment and ordering. An artist has two of each costume look, and some artists have up to 12 looks. I oversee 2000+ active costumes in the show, as well 5000+ in back stock. I act as the "hub" of the wardrobe wheel- overseeing a team of three seamstresses, one costume pattern maker/builder, and five dressers, while managing show needs along with stage management and the artistic director. We face new challenges every day- whether it be a new artist, new choreography or tricks added to an act, injuries, safety measures, fit issues, fabric changes, language barriers, or personal preferences. I work very closely with the artists to find a perfect balance of show quality, personal comfort, and safety. We are very involved with the community as well, doing promotional activities and photo shoots, which pleasantly reminds me of my former life of runways and layouts. Every day is different. Every day is exciting. Every day I am truly thank for what I do! Events Ongoing Looking for some good TV? The Sundance Channel is running a series called "Full Frontal Fashion" beginning March 10.
