Agenda Rachel Mills special guest speaker We were privileged enough to have Rachel Mills come and speak tonight to speak about the sound field systems in the classroom and the Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project. Otitis media (ear disease) is very common and regularly goes undiagnosed. The Sound field speaker is best used not only for the children diagnosed with hearing difficulty but also used for the 1-3 children with fluid in the ear and not yet diagnosed. Rachel explained her own experience with her son with Glue and the behavioural problems he was facing. Not only are aboriginals that most commonly attract Glue Ear or Otitis Media but 20% of all preschooler are affected and right up to children in year 3. Ear infections often happen either during or just after cold. Rachel explained the symptoms, behaviours, solutions, Blow nose 3 times daily (Further Information attached) Rachel has been education teachers and other schools. St Johns currently has 2 Sound systems in classes. Funding for Sound Systems - $2,000 per class. Ear Bus Project Hearing Support. They need approximately $360,000 to get this bus up and running. So far they have $43,000

Nevara said they used a different website for mothers day last year. Nevara said we did not make allot of money out of aprons for fathers day, it was more an offering of a gift than a fundraiser. Tracey said she has sent a letter to new families (attached Tracey letter arranged for the Parent Information night to see if parents can offer assistance during the year such as baking, BBQ, Mothers Day, Fete etc. (attached) Presidents Report: Tracey (attached) Treasurers Report: Andrew no transactions over summer. Michael Quade - Sport Michael attended a 2 day conference coonamble towards end of 2012, promoting crunch and sip athletics etc. From this they have adopted a program which year 6 will run and provide peer support on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday morning 15 minutes. This consists of warm up, activity, to be taught well, each skill has 12 cards, Years 3-6 should do ok. Years K-2 may have some struggle. To speed up the process a list has been provided with all children, programs. With the first attempt being today it was very well received by all children. All the children benefit. Helps build skills, used for athletic skills, team work, leadership. Equipment is required to continue with this program. Michael has a Wishlist (attached $8,000). Anthony O Leary ordered today, markers 500, bean bags 400, 150 hoola hoops which came to $3,500. Michael said they will receive $1000 rebate back by end of term one. Paula has put forward that we spend $3,000. Therese agreed. Year 6 End of Year Michael confirmed with feedback from the year 6 children that the Bible to be done at church and not at school dance. Fundraising Funding to be outsourced rather than always from parents. Canteen Martial Arts 16 th June. Krispy Kreme 2012 - $2000. Potential for more to buy extra donuts due to the demand of people wanting extra on the day. Happy to run this again for the 2013 year and aim for more money being raised.

Mo vie Night Disco incorporate Parents. Parents can pay additional not to dance. We estimate we need to raise on average $10,000 each year. With funding needed for the new fit out this may be more for this year. Artshow invite members of community. Principals Report: Anthony Enrolment numbers are at 396. This is close to magic 400. We have potential interviews with 4 more, 1 started today. Miss McGann on leave from St Johns in 2013. Mrs Howey will be teaching in her position. The CEO may fill her position. Sue Gavenlock is also on leave. Aides have been advertised to fill the gap of Sue. The Old Server was in urgent need of replacing. There was little to no space and without it, the school cannot function. This came to a cost of $27,000. As a result of this unforeseen cost, the Music Centre may be postponed until Semester 2. A possible suggestion was put forward that instead of the P& F fund the fitout, that for the similar cost that the P& F fund the external cost so we can keep this great facility on track. St Johns Primary P & F Association General Meeting: Monday 18 December, 2012 7.00pm at Two Doors, Dubbo. Agenda Anthony said that they had plans drawn up and waiting on approval for the new Music/Drama class which would be built behind the hall. St Johns would pay for the building but the P&F would pay for the fit out. They wanted to proceed with this asap. We agreed and this was passed by Jane, Tracey, Kristine, Nevara, Andrew, Jane, Therese and Belinda. Anthony said they were introducing a program called Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL). This would be a 2 year journey and would like someone on the P& F to help run this. At the meeting no nomination had been made. Fundraising for 2013. Andrew said he was going to his sisters in US and would discuss fundraising ideas that they have that St Johns would benefit from. EG. Golfing day. Further details of this discussion would be elaborated in the February 2013 meeting. Margo Russell expressed her interest to run with the Krispy Kreme drive again. There was great success out of this. The Trivia night was going to be in the 1 st Term of 2013 due to the cancellation of the 2012 due to lack of numbers. It was confirmed that the concept was still good but unfortunately the date coincided with other events on that same weekend. Having the opportunity to run early in year would allow new families to meet. Discussion to the platter options, charges, liquor license and games would be carved out in the first meeting of 2013. Grandparents Morning Tea in May It was discussed with so many various rare illnesses that even some of our students have had it would be nice to place our support to various other charities rather than always cancer council.

Artwork The artwork raised good money and was a good concept. Maybe some more thought into this to vary it up. Suggestions was to have artwork on calendars, cards or placements. This might be a good 3 rd term for lead up to Christmas time. Tracey suggested an Artshow for September after school hours for Adults Only. Invite artists from the cultural centre. Speak to Miss Lindsay regarding getting this to develop further. Other Fundraising ideas The International Teachers Day Tracey ran with in 2012 and really enjoyed this and was happy to run with again. Mothers Night Out Fete End of Year Walkathon Belinda to look at Golden Circle. Fathers Day Breakfast. Whilst light on in numbers happy to run again. Reading Day Cinema Movie Night Movie Night for kids broken up between infants and primary. Tracey is to email a suggested timeframe for the fundraising ideas. Year 6 Graduation It was discussed that the year 6 on the night of the graduation be presented with a Bible from the P & F. It was agreed and liked this. Dear Parents, As you are aware our children who attend St. John s Primary School are supported by a dedicated Parents and Friends Committee that work very hard throughout the year. We do this so as we can supply all of our children with new equipment which gives them better educational experiences and opportunities to learn and grow. The Parents and Friends Association Policy Document, implemented by the Catholic Education Office (Bathurst Diocese) states: The Aims of the Association shall include:(a) the promotion of the close collaboration between the parish community, the professional staff and the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the School, in order to further the cause of Catholic Education. Throughout last year, our P and F have bought for our children: Blinds on the Northern windows of the classrooms. Outdoor seating for the children. In 2013 we are going to fund the internal fit out of the new Creative arts Shed which will be built soon (pending approval). We also need to put blinds in the Kindergarten rooms, as these were missed last year. Our hope is to achieve this by: Our Trivia Fun night, a Krispy Kreme Donut drive, BBQ for an external hall function and a couple of fundraisers yet to be decided. We on the P&F realise just how busy we all are as parents are and how many commitments you already make to your children, so are not asking for a huge allocation of time, merely if you could lend a hand, even if just for half an hour. President s report: 19 th February 2013 I would like to thank all of you who have taken positions on the P&F. I am very excited about working with you all this year. May God lead and guide us to make good decisions and go forth in a Christian manner. The last meeting of 2012 saw us pass a vote to outfit a Cultural room which the school is going to build. The building will begin in Semester 2, once built we will finance the internal fit out. This marks an exciting extension of our school and will enable us to both conduct and host a wider variety of cultural events. The blinds for the Kindy rooms have been ordered and we look forward to seeing those in place. Discussions were entered into on the second day of school as to how we were going to conduct the welcome bbq and the trivia night. Decisions were made to combine them and make it a Trivia Fun Night. I look forward to testing the waters with this new concept. The age old practice of sending home notes for tear offs is still in practice and perhaps growing a little tired. The idea of hauling ourselves into the world of technology both excites and terrifies me; however I feel it is time to begin the process of wearily trudging into the current century! Jacinta Bennet who organises our school website has recommended some possible sites for us to use. As we go into this school year let us remember the words of Jesus Anyone who wants to be the first must be the very last, and servant of all. If you happen to be in Melbourne, we warmly invite you to drop in to our showroom at 7 Dene Ave, Malvern East. We are open Monday to Friday from 9am 4pm. Any of our regular customers will tell you it s well worth visiting the showroom. Step 2 Orders can be placed online via the website or by fax, phone or email. The Mother s Day Catalogue Order Form can be downloaded online. It is also included as the last two pages of this catalogue. Alternatively, you can place your order online via our website. Our website is not an online shop and therefore we do not accept online payment. This is done deliberately to prevent you the fundraising team from being out of pocket. Instead we choose to invoice the school or nominated fundraising committee. Step 3 Although we purchase vast quantities of gifts, they sell very quickly so to avoid disappointment, please order early. Orders are packed in order of receipt on a first in, first served basis. In the event that a gift is SOLD OUT, MAPS Fundraising will phone or email the nominated contact person to arrange a suitable alternative. Therefore, it is imperative that the fundraising contact details on the Order Form be completed. Step 4 MAPS Fundraising pick and pack your gifts from our warehouse and then freight them directly to your school. We do not deliver to private addresses because we can t guarantee your items will be safe if they are left on the doorstep. By delivering to the school, we are confident the gifts are received safely. Gifts are sent within 10 days of placing your order. Because gifts are dispatched from a very large and busy warehouse, they cannot be collected from our office or from our warehouse. This decision is driven by the weight of the parcels and in consideration of your safety. Our freight charges are $10 per order, regardless of size, weight or destination. Check your Order Step 5 If a gift is available in a variety of colours and fragrances, a mixture of colours and fragrances will be supplied. All orders are picked and packed with great care by two members of staff and we ask you to please check them carefully upon receipt.
