The Paulo Freire School Uniform & Dress Code Policies All Paulo Freire Charter School students are required to wear school uniforms. Below you will find information about The Paulo Freire School s dress code/ uniform policy. School Uniforms v Enhance school safety v Promote school pride v Create a sense of unity amongst students v Improve the learning environment v Bridge socio-economic differences between children v Promote good behavior v Improve children s self-respect and self-esteem v Produce cost savings for participating families The main objective of the Paulo Freire Charter School Uniform policy is to educate students on professional dress and attire, in line with our college preparatory curriculum. All students are to a have business casual uniform, to be worn on a daily basis, and a business formal uniform, to be worn on special occasions (class trips, career days, college visits/interviews, etc.) All students are expected to be in uniform attire at all times, with the exception of Dress Down/School Spirit Days and Saturday Academy. For Dress Down/Spirit Days and Saturday Academy, students are to adhere to the Paulo Freire Charter School Dress Code. On Spirit Days, students may wear House colors or House logo attire, which may be purchased throughout the year at various fundraising events.

The Paulo Freire School Uniform Policy The Paulo Freire Charter School has adopted the following uniform guidelines: Business Casual Uniform (to be worn daily): Ø Shirts: Students will wear uniforms shirts meeting the guidelines below. v Polo Shirts (long or short sleeve) in solid burgundy or grey are permitted. v Polo Shirts must have the school logo. v Polo Shirts must be worn tucked into pants/skirt at all times. v Sleeveless shirts, T-shirts*, or shirts in any other color are not permitted. Ø Pants: Students will wear uniform pants meeting the guidelines below. v All students are permitted to wear solid black or grey colored pants. v Denim jeans, cargo pants, capris, shorts*, and sweat pants* are NOT permitted. v A solid black color belt must be worn if pants have belt loops. v Pants must be worn at the natural waist. Ø Skirts: Female students will wear the uniform skirt in the colors indicated below. v All Female students in grades 9-12 are permitted to wear either the school approved plaid skirt or solid black skirt. v Skirts can be in a kick pleat, kilt, or scooter design v Jumpers are not permitted. v Skirts and scooters may not be shorter than two inches above the knee. Ø Cardigan Sweaters: All students must have a cardigan sweater in the colors of solid crimson (cardinal/maroon) or grey. All sweaters must meets the following guidelines: v All long and short sleeve crimson (cardinal) or grey sweaters must be worn with a white collared oxford shirt. NO hooded apparel. v All sweaters must have the school emblem embroidered on the upper left shoulder. v Outer garments (coats and jackets) must be stored in the student s locker and may not be carried in school. Ø Footwear: Shoes must be solid black in color; soles of shoes must be solid black or solid white in color. Shoe with laces, must have solid black shoe laces. v Shoes must be securely fastened. v Boots, sneakers, tennis shoes, clogs, flip-flops, and bedroom slippers are NOT permitted. v Heels may NOT be higher than 1/2 inch, and no open heel or open toed shoes are permitted. v Exceptions to this policy will be made for students with medically documented accommodation requests. Ø Legwear: Socks must be solid black, white, or burgundy.

v When wearing skirts, female students must also wear solid black, white, or burgundy tights, knee hi, or leggings. v Socks, tights, knee hi, or leggings cannot contain any designs or insignias. Ø Sizing: Clothing must be sized to fit the student. Pants should fit appropriately at the waist, and should not be too tight, loose, or baggy. Skirts should be knee length or longer. Shirts should be an appropriate size and should not extend below the hip. Ø Head ware*: Students may not wear scarves, hats, hoods, sweatbands, bandannas, or sunglasses while in the school building. Ø Earring, Body Piercings, and Tattoos*: Female students are allowed to wear earrings that are not more than a quarter in size and length. Male students are not permitted to wear earrings. Students must remove all facial piercing before entering the building. Body tattoos must be covered during school hours. Exceptions will be made for arm tattoos that are below shoulder length during warm weather months. Business Formal Uniform (to be worn on special occasions (class trips, career days, etc.) and at request*: Ø Shirts: Students will wear uniforms shirts meeting the guidelines below. v Button down oxford shirts (long or short sleeve) in solid white are permitted. v Sleeveless shirts, T-shirts*, or shirts in any other color are not permitted. v Shirts must be worn tucked into pants/skirt at all times. Ø Pants: Students will wear uniform pants meeting the guidelines below. v All students are permitted to wear solid black or grey colored pants. v Denim jeans, shorts*, and sweat pants* are NOT permitted. v A solid black color belt must be worn if pants have belt loops. v Pants must be worn at the natural waist. Ø V-Neck or Crew Neck Vests or Sweaters: All students have the option to wear solid crimson (cardinal) or grey v- neck or crew neck vests or sweaters. All sweaters and vests must meets the following guidelines: v All long and short sleeve solid crimson (cardinal) or grey sweaters or vests must be worn with a solid white collared oxford shirt. NO hooded apparel. v All vests and sweaters must have the school emblem embroidered on the upper left shoulder. v Outer garments (coats and jackets) must be stored in the student s locker and may not be carried in school. Ø Blazers: All Senior students must wear the standard solid crimson (maroon/cardinal) blazer that meets the following guidelines*: v All blazers must be worn with a white collared oxford shirt. v All blazers must have the school emblem embroidered on the upper left shoulder. v All senior students must wear the crimson (maroon) blazer; however, during warm weather they may wear a short sleeved white oxford with the school emblem embroidered on the upper left shoulder. v All other outer garments (coats and jackets) must be stored in the student s locker/storage and may not be carried in school. Ø Neckwear: Students will wear the school approved neck tie that meets the following guidelines: v All male students in grades 9-12 will wear the school approved neck tie at all times. v Female students may also wear the school approved plaid (that is the same print as the plaid skirt) female neck tie. v All neck ties must be worn securely around the neck. Ø Footwear: Shoes must be solid black in color; soles of shoes must be solid black or solid white in color. Shoe with laces, must have solid black shoe laces. v Shoes must be securely fastened. v Boots, sneakers, tennis shoes, clogs, flip-flops, and bedroom slippers are NOT permitted. v Heels may NOT be higher than 1/2 inch, and no open heel or open toed shoes are permitted. v Exceptions to this policy will be made for students with medically documented accommodation requests. Sweat pants, shorts, and other T- shirts are permitted for sports and gym related activities. *Students who are not in Business Formal Uniform on the required days, will not be allowed to participate in the designated function/activity. The Paulo Freire School Gym/Physical Education Dress Policy The Paulo Freire Charter School has adopted the following dress code guidelines for gym/physical education related activities: Ø Burgundy, White, or Black T-Shirt or long sleeve shirt (NO dress shirts) Ø Black or White Shorts, Swear Pants, or Track Pants (NO Leggings, Uniform Pants, or Jeans) Ø Sneakers w/laces (NO platforms, Uggs, Crocs, open toed shoes, or boots)

The Paulo Freire School Dress Code Policy The Paulo Freire Charter School has adopted the following dress code guidelines for Dress Down/Spirit Days & Saturday Academy: Students should wear garments, shoes, jewelry, accessories and hairstyles that are appropriate and modest in length and coverage. Student clothing should reflect a positive image of the school and contribute to a distraction- free learning environment. Students will be asked to remove or change out of clothing that the faculty and/or staff reasonably believe will interfere with, disturb, or distract from the classroom and/or learning environment. Students are not to wear clothing that is tight, loose, sagging, baggy, revealing, spaghetti- strap, backless, low cut or short. Ø Pants must be worn at the waist or upper hip and must not reveal underclothing Ø Shorts and Skirts - must be fitted at the waist or upper hip, must not reveal underclothing, and must be mid- thigh in length or longer Ø Tops, Shirts and Blouses must not reveal underclothing, midsection, torso, back, chest, breasts or cleavage Ø Dresses must not reveal underclothing, midsection, torso, back, chest, breasts, or cleavage and must not exceed two (2) inches above the knee Ø Shoes must not detract from or interfere with the learning environment or present a safety or health hazard Tennis shoes or closed- toe shoes are preferred. House shoes/house slippers of any kind are not allowed. Ø Head Coverings no type of head covering is to be worn with the exception of those worn for religious or medical purposes Ø Pajamas/loungewear any and all pajamas/loungewear are prohibited. Ø Jewelry/Piercings Noisy, distracting and excessive jewelry or accessories are prohibited (including wallet chains). Female students are allowed to wear earrings that are not more than a quarter in size and length. Male students are not permitted to wear earrings. Students must remove all facial piercing before entering the building. Body tattoos must be covered during school hours. Exceptions will be made for arm tattoos that are below shoulder length during warm weather months. Ø Tattoos - permanent or temporary, must be covered at all times, except in warmer months. Ø Hair/Make- up Hair must be well groomed, neat and clean at all times; hair style/color and makeup must not detract from or interfere with the learning and school environment.

Ø Backpacks must not detract from or interfere with the learning environment or present a safety or health hazard. UNIFORM/DRESS CODE POLICY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I, have read the Paulo Freire Charter School Uniform and Dress Code Policies. By signing this statement, I that my child will wear the Paulo Freire Charter School uniform at all times while at school. When appropriate, my child will wear the Paulo Freire Charter School business formal uniform and required physical education attire. During dress down days, spirit days, and Saturday Academy, I will ensure that my child s attire adheres to the parameters laid out in the school s dress code. I understand that failure to adhere to the uniform and dress code policies shall lead to progressive discipline, which includes but is not limited to, a request that proper attire is immediately delivered to the school, after school/before school detention, in-school suspension, and possible out-of-school suspension.
