Biobased carbon content was measured by Beta Analytical using the method described in ASTM D6866. % Biobased Content specifically relates to percentage of renewable carbon to total carbon, not to total mass or molecular weight. Transmittance at 600 nm was measured with a 1% solution of each polymer. 12

Sensory Observations Shampoo Opportunity for cost-in-use saving at parity performance thanks to PenCare DP reduced use level The PenCare TM DP biopolymer was used at half the level of either the PQ-10 or Cationic Guar in the prototypes for sensory evaluation. Both the PQ-10 and Cationic Guar used in the study were the industry standard, flagship versions of these cationic polymers. Trained stylists rated the PenCare DP-based shampoo at statistical parity (95% Confidence level) as compared to PQ-10 or Cationic Guar-based shampoo. Panelists rated the PenCare TM DP-based shampoo at statistical parity (95% Confidence level) as compared to PQ-10 or Cationic Guar- based shampoo.

In body wash, PenCare DP formulation was easier to rinse off and left a lower amount of residue on the skin resulting in a cleaner skin after-feel.
