For Acne Vulgaris, A Topical Gel Treatment For Dermatologic Use ERYGEL (Erythromycin) Topical Gel USP, 2% Please see Important Safety Information on back page and accompanying Full Prescribing Information.

With its gel formulation, ERYGEL (Erythromycin) Topical Gel USP, 2% provides spreadable coverage of the skin and is indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. ERYGEL is for topical use only and not for ophthalmic use. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. In view of the potential for pseudomembranous colitis which has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, including erythromycin it s important for the physician to consider this diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to the administration of this medication. The gel is applied to affected areas in a thin film once or twice a day after the skin is thoroughly cleansed and patted dry. ERYGEL should be spread lightly rather than rubbed in. There are no data directly comparing b.i.d. versus q.d. dosing. If there has been no improvement after 6 to 8 weeks or if the condition becomes worse, treatment should be discontinued and the physician should be reconsulted. Please see Important Safety Information on back page and accompanying Full Prescribing Information.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Please see accompanying Full Prescribing Information ERYGEL (Erythromycin) Topical Gel USP, 2% is contraindicated in individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to any of its components. Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, including erythromycin and may range in severity from mild to life-threatening. Therefore, it is important to consider this diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to administration of antibacterial agents. ERYGEL is for topical use only, not for ophthalmic use. Avoid contact with eyes and all mucus membranes. Concomitant topical acne therapy should be used with caution because a possible cumulative irritancy effect may occur, especially with the use of peeling, desquamating or abrasive agents. If irritation or dermatitis occurs, ERYGEL should be discontinued. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established. In clinical trials, the most common adverse events were burning (25%), and occasional peeling, dryness, itching, erythema and oiliness. Irritation of the eyes and tenderness of the skin have also been reported with the topical use of erythromycin. The contents of ERYGEL are flammable; patients should avoid fire, flame and/or smoking during and immediately following application.
