Positive sunshine Because of the advanced protection offered by modern sun products, the opinions on negative effects of the sun on the skin are milder nowadays. Sunlight also has a number of positive effects. It boosts the production of Vitamin D, has a positive effect on skin ailments like psoriasis and eczema and stimulates the blood circulation and the forming of haemoglobin and melanin. Of course, the sun gives you a healthy colour and makes you feel good and relaxed which gives you new energy.
UV radiation As is the case with many things, if they are preceded by too much they will not do you any good. Too much sun is therefore not good for your skin. This has to do with the UV radiation to which the skin reacts. The UV radiation is subdivided into two kinds: The UVA radiation is the least dangerous. It is true that it can cause burning, but much less quickly than UVB radiation. UVB radiation causes pigmentation of the skin and thickening of the epidermis for natural protection. The production of vitamin D is also stimulated. UVB radiation is, however, the main cause of sunburn and accelerated ageing of the skin.
Protection factor All kinds of UV radiation are therefore responsible for sunburn to a greater or lesser extent. Optimum protection is necessary, but which protection factor is recommended now? The ampoules ensure the skin stays fl exible and strong and at the same time the tanning process is accelerated.
How do SPF filters work? The fi lters in the sun products protect the skin and are indicated by SPF. SPF is an abbreviation for Sun Protection Factor. During sun bathing it is important to start with a high SPF and as the tanning process continues, a lower SPF can be used. The extent to which these fi lters offer protection is indicated by a number. Factor 15 means, for example, that you can stay in the sun fi fteen times longer without burning than if you were not using any sun cream. Do not forget to apply sun products every two hours, in particular after swimming, even if you have used a high factor. A very high SPF factor of 30 or more means that you can stay in the sun longer, but due to sweating for example it is necessary to reapply the sun product every 2 hours. Therefore it s necessary to apply the sun protection regularly, even with a high protection factor.
