Karina Wisniewska Meditations in Three Movements g a macura inc., Hollis Taggart Galleries, and 222 East 41st Street are proud to present Karina Wisniewska: Meditations in Three Movements. The pieces included in this exhibition examine how our interconnectedness with nature and our environment create a relationship that reverberates on a subconscious, soulful, and metaphysical level. Coming from a remarkable background, Swiss artist Karina Wisniewska utilizes her training as a renowned concert pianist to craft exceptional works that focus on the magnitude, energy, and composition of nature. Having an international career in both the performing and visual arts, Wisniewska is a highly recognized artist that has won several awards and mentions for her musical talents since the 1990 s, and is a three-time recipient of the Swiss Young Musicians Competition. Her atypical training has lead to an artistic repertoire that delves into the subconscious and mystic properties of creation the cultivation of the space wherein inspiration occurs. The canvases on which Wisniewska sculpts her vision are ruminations on the course of nature and its realm in the universe. Her work, heavily focused into three movements, discloses the underlying dialogue between an individual soul and its surroundings in her Deep Mapping, Field Light, and Nature paintings. The Deep Mappings are an intense concentration of color mixed with sand a visual reference to Zen meditative techniques. Her floral Field Light paintings represent the creative realm between heaven and earth, with layer upon layer revealing imprints of organic materials through the dreamy haze of memory and reflection. In her Nature paintings series, the harmonic biology of our environment flows together to create vibrant, cadenced compositions that harken back to an early language of movement and interaction both with and within the energy of earth and nature. We are all interconnected tangibly and spiritually with the organic vitality that encompasses us.
This exhibition will intend to showcase Wisniewska s larger pieces, proposing a reflective impression in three distinct series Floral Light, Deep Mappings, and Nature Pieces. These works allow for introspection on our day-to-day existence and its connection, both physically and metaphysically, with the environment that surrounds us just as the burgeoning springtime light begins peeking over the horizon, offering a fresh and enlightened perspective to emerge. Karina Wisniewska: Meditations in Three Movements will be on display through September 13, 2013. Karina Wisniewska International artist Karina Wisniewska redefines the art of painting in her extraordinary body of work that balances the organic with the geometric, and pulls at the polarities of stillness and movement. Using luminous color, aflame in radiant reds, rich oranges and penetrating blues, she delicately combines her paint with quartz sand to create lush layers of texture in her engaging, elegant monochrome paintings. Wisniewska s artistic process is both concealed and revealed in her evocative geometric grids painted in shallow relief. Wisniewska s paintings are informed by the artist s own musicality. An accomplished chamber musician and concert pianist, Wisniewska often translates favorite compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and John Cage into visual art. The linear and gridded contsturctions create rythyms; the resulting rich tones and harmonies, advancing and receding, grant her paintings a distinct musicality and order that explore the mysteries of chance and intention. Wisniewska has exhibited widely at galleries and art fairs around the world. Her work can be found in the collections of the Museum Abbatiale de Payerne, the Museum zu Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen (both Switzerland), and corporate collections including Credit Suisse, UBS, and VP Bank, Vaduz. Before working as a visual artist, which she began in earnest in 2000, Wisniewska had a distinguished career as an award-winning musician. Trained at institutions including Salzburg s Mozarteum (Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst), she recorded more than 10 albums and numerous performances for television and radio. Among her awards are the European Culture Prize, the Swiss Musician of the Year, and the inaugural prize of the Armand von Ernst Banquiers Foundation. She lives and works in Ennetbaden, Switzerland.
