Performance Products EMPIGEN S18 Conditioner for Beauty and Personal Care
Description EMPIGEN S18 is a conditioning agent primarily used in hair care applications under the INCI name Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine. Low molecular weight acids are often added to the final formulation to obtain the amido amine equivalent salt. Characteristics and Benefits Silicone free Improves hair combability Improves shine and smoothness of hair Reduces build-up With antistatic properties Compatible with cationic and silicone based conditioning agents Compatible with typical anionic surfactants Improves viscosity properties of rinse off formulae Applications Hair conditioners Hair treatments Hair colorants 2 in 1 shampoos Additional Information EMPIGEN S18 INCI Name Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine Function Antistatic/ Emulsifying/ Hair conditioning/ Surfactant Appearance White flakes Range of application 0.1-2%
Benefits and features Combing force reduction Amido amine salts have certain characteristics which may be beneficial in some applications over more typical quaternary ammonium conditioning agents, although a combination of the two types is frequently used. In the following graphs, the reduction in combing force obtained by application of a conditioning cream containing 1% active matter (a.m.) of different types of conditioning agents is described. 5 WET HAIR Difference in combing force (N) after application of a conditioner INCI name % Cetearyl Alcohol 3.5 Conditioning agent (a.m.) 1.0 Ceteareth-25 1.0 Citric acid ph 4-4.5 Aqua Up to 100 0-5 -10-15 -20 0,05 DRY HAIR Difference in combing force (N) after application of a conditioner Legenda: Different colours correspond to data found significantly different. -0,05-0,15-0,25-0,35 Test conditions: 25 tresses of bleached European hair; Instron Stress analyzer single column 3340 serie. Data analysis: 1 way ANOVA + Tukey s HSD test, 5% level of significance.
Increasing in brightness The same basic formulation has been used to compare hair brightness of treated with EMPIGEN S18 and untreated hair tresses. As shown in the graph below, EMPIGEN S18 imparts more shine and luster to the hair. Test conditions: Pre-washing step performed using a neutral shampoo on all tresses. Control treated with conditioning rinse. Increasing viscosity 0.3% of EMPIGEN S18 is added to a simple shampoo formulation. The addition of EMPIGEN S 18 allows higher viscosities at low shear rate as shown in the graph below making the formulation ideal from the application point of view. The obtained 2 in 1 shampoo with conditioner formula remains clear and provides softening properties to hair during the washing process.
