Artist Statement Gerard Boersma Commonplace events and ordinary objects. With my works of art I want to express a deep love for the modern human and contemporary city life. I create my works of art to make life a little bit more pleasant and to give food for thought as well. I paint people on the streets, in stores, public transport and museums or zoom in on popular products.at first sight these scenes might appear as quite ordinary, but after years of painting I know it's anything but. Our lives are filled with moments like these. Therefore these moments are important and say a whole lot about todays society too. They show the way people see themselves, interact or are influenced by modern developments in various ways. I observe and paint what most impresses me.that way I freeze time and those beautiful, but often overlooked scenes are forever captured in a moment. Finally ready to be observed quietly. I've studied painting and fine art at the School of Arts Minerva in Groningen, the Netherlands. I first start showing my work in 2001 at alternative spaces and then in respectable galleries all over my native country and abroad. Paintings were shown alongside the biggest names in art history at leading art fairs in Europe and United States. Over the years my online sales grew exponentially and for a while I sold my works exclusively over the internet. My art is now in museums, galleries and in hundreds of private collections worldwide (America, Europe, Asia and Australia). Earlier this year I start creating giant scale paintings of my most popular series of paintings of people in museums. I m looking forward to showing this series of paintings to a larger public and to take my career as an artist to the next level in the nearby future.
