SHAPE SHIFT TECHNIQUE CUT STEP X STEP Step 1: Section hair as shown. Take horizontal partings and establish a perimeter length; cut a blunt, square line (point-cutting and chipping can be used to create a softer line/perimeter if desired). Continue to take horizontal partings working up toward the crown and center parting. View of established back length. Step 2: Establish the front and side lengths. Take a diagonal parting off a center parting (toward the side ear area), then elevate, overdirect and cut the parting to the desired length. The degree of elevation and lift will determine the amount of weight removed and softness when the hair falls against the skin. Step 3: Continue to take diagonal partings incorporating the back area. Continue to lift each parting higher than the previous. The key focus is to lift each parting to create lightness, movement and texture within the overall design.
Step 4: Continue to work up toward the top area (center parting); lifting, overdirecting and applying even tension with each parting. Repeat the process on the opposite side. Step 5: Take a vertical parting that extends from the crown to the nape and remove any excess weight. Round any corners within the internal design. Step 6: Proceed as before, rounding off any corners of excess weight. Haircut is now ready for color placement. Further refine hair after the color process to ensure the haircut and color flow seamlessly.
SHADE SHIFT TECHNIQUE COLOR STEP X STEP The Shade Shift technique creates the illusion of perfect ambient light by allowing the colorist freedom to shade and illuminate the hair to their exact specifications. Going a step beyond Ombré, Shade Shifting offers complete control over the finished look. The method allows colorists to shift the light in their haircolor application by strand splitting, a technique that involves two colors on one section of hair, seamlessly transitioning into one another. Unlike Ombré, strand splitting shifts the shade as well as the level for a richer statement. A strand can be split into two sections (a technique we call duo-shift ) or into three sections ( trio-shift ). Here s how it works: Simply take your weave or slice parting (with or without foil) then paint DuoLight onto the section moving from dark-to-light, light-todark or dark-to-light-to-dark. Example: Trio-Shift (Caramel to Butterscotch to Caramel): creates a halo of light. Fantastic in the fringe or at the round of the head. Example: Duo-Shift: Creates modern Ombré effects from dark to light or light to dark. Caramel Butterscotch Caramel Butterscotch Caramel PRODUCT: DuoLight Butterscotch and Caramel TECHNIQUE: Duo-Shift: Caramel to Butterscotch ends Trio-Shift: Caramel-Butterscotch-Caramel in the fringe area BEFORE FORMULA: Formula #1: Joico DuoLight Butterscotch with 20 Volume (6%) Veroxide Formula #2: Joico DuoLight Caramel with 10 Volume (3%) Veroxide Model has natural (level 6) light brown hair. Step 1: Starting off a slightly off-center parting, take a zigzag overhang of natural hair and clip it away. Step 2: Take a vertical slice parting around the hairline and leave it un-foiled. Take a vertical slice parting and apply Formula 2 toward the scalp area, feathering the lightener approximately 2 ½ inches from the edge of the foil to halfway down the parting; apply Formula 1 to the remainder of the slice parting.
Step 3: Take a second back-to-back vertical slice parting and repeat the process and formulas. Step 4: Leave a vertical slice parting of natural hair un-foiled, then repeat the process for an approximate total of eight slice partings. When you reach the area behind the ear, drop the vertical slice parting down and into the hairline. Step 5: Proceed to the longer top/fringe area, then take a diagonal zigzag overhang of natural hair. Picking up the points of the zigzag, take a diagonal parting; apply Formula 2 approximately 2-inches down the parting (feathering the lightener), Formula 1 for 2- to 3-inches and Formula 2 to the ends to create a lighter center band in the hair. Take an additional three back-to-back slice partings and apply the two formulas in the same manner as in Step 5. Step 6: Proceed to the opposite side area and repeat the same foiling procedure as completed on opposite side (gold foil). Step 7: Completed foiling technique. Process for 30-45 minutes or until desired tone is achieved. Apply K-PAK Shampoo, rinse. Apply K-PAK Cuticle Sealer for 5 minutes, rinse. Apply K-PAK Intense Hydrator for 5 minutes, rinse. Style hair with appropriate Joico styling products.
