HEAT & FLAME PROTECTIVE WORKWEAR RANGE Dickies have been manufacturing Workwear since 1922. Oil & Gas The Dickies Oil & Gas collection is designed for use in upstream and downstream oil and gas facilities with specific demands for flame retardant garments that are comfortable, durable and with minimal shrinkage. PROBAN Cotton fibres treated with a phosphonium salt precondensate, polymerized with a gaseous ammonia (THPOH-NH3) process. During the Proban process, an inert cross-linked polymer is formed. This polymer is embedded within the individual fibres and is insoluble. It cannot be removed by washing and can only be removed by mechanical abrasion or rendered ineffective through incorrect laundering (see below). Proban fabrics comfortably meet the minimum standards required of 50 washes @ 75 C. Each batch of Proban treated fabrics are independently tested to this Standard and are certified by Rhodia Consumer Specialties Limited, producers of the Proban chemical, to maintain its flame retardant characteristics for 50 washes providing the correct laundering instructions are followed. However, numerous independent tests have shown Proban treated garments still pass this flammability test well after 100 to 150 washes. PYROVATEX Cotton fibres treated with a crosslink resin utilising the heat-cured dialkylphosphonamide process that forms a bond on the molecular level to the cellulose in the Cotton fibres. This creates a very strong, durable and protective link that makes the fabric resistant to shrinking or melting when exposed to heat and flame. Our Pyrovatex fabrics are made from high quality Cotton fibres, consequently they are lightweight and comfortable with excellent durability to wash and wear, ensuring Dickies Workwear a long lifetime. Modacrylic The permanently flame retardant Modacrylic fibre has been blended with cotton for a natural feel and maximum comfort. The flame retardant properties of Modacrylic are a part of the fibre resin of the Modacrylic Fibre and as a consequence cannot be removed. There is no deterioration in flame retardancy after either repeated washing or normal use over time. PROTAL Permanently flame retardant Modacrylic fibre has been blended with complimentary fibres designed to offer Flame Retardancy that cannot be washed out and is permanent in the characteristics of the fibre itself. In addition to the Modacrylic fibre FR properties, these other blends of complimentary fibres offer additional beneficial features such as strength, durability, lighter more comfortable weights with superb moisture management allowing the Worker to remain cool and dry in the most extremes of Temperatures whilst affording them high levels of protection. LAUNDRY CARE Flame Retardant Clothing should be laundered strictly in adherence with the instructions on the care label in every garment, if in any doubt please consult with Dickies as to how to best care for your Workwear. Poor Laundry care can have a serious adverse effect on a Safety garment. For example water which is too hard affects the cleaning process and may contain mineral salts to build up on the fabric, deposits of this type can adversely affect the FR properties of the Clothing and in extreme cases of build-up can actually exacerbate the flammability of the clothing and act as an accelerant if exposed to an ignition source. Cotton, Aramid and Modacrylic Garments can be laundered using the recommended temperatures and wash cycles. Some 3% minimal shrinkage can be expected and is a natural reaction from both the fibres and the weave construction, most noticeable during the first 3 to 5 washes. Please be careful not to over dry garments. Dickies recommend that this is taken into consideration when selecting your preferred garment. Exposure to excessive drying temperatures will result in higher than normal shrinkage. Starches, fabric softeners, and other laundry additives should be avoided. DO NOT USE CHLORINE BLEACH or other DETERGENTS or CHEMICALS CONTAINING HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. GENERAL A user guide is included with all our garments. We recommend that this be read carefully as the guide gives important information about the protection the garment provides along with wash care instructions and important information that contributes to optimal protection for the wearer. Jacket and Trousers should always be worn together as an ensemble to ensure maximum protection. ISO standards are under constant revision and our designs are regularly revised and updated to ensure compliance to the latest standards. Dickies also manufacture garments to comply with many different International Safety Standard requirements such as NFPA and others upon request. FLAME RETARDANT Aramids Nomex is one of the better known brands for protective solutions based on a family of highly heat and flame resistant aramid fibres invented and produced by DuPont. The high level of protection does not come from chemical treatment, but is engineered into the molecular structure of the fibre. This means that the heat and flame resistance of Nomex is inherent and permanent, and that its protective performance will last the life of a garment. In addition to managing extremes of heat through advanced thermo technology, Nomex protective apparel also delivers optimum comfort and durability. The standard specifies the performance requirements for garments which protect the body from heat and flame. EN ISO 11611:2007 Protective clothing for use in welding and allied processes. The standard specifies 2 classes with specific performance requirements: Class 1 - lower level: less hazardous welding situations Class 2 - higher level: more hazardous welding situations FLAME RETARDANT EN 1149 Protective clothing electrostatic properties. Antistatic PPE are certified to as this standard covers the performance requirements and refers to the choice of 2 different test methods (EN 1149-1 or EN 1149-3) IEC 61482 EN ISO 14116 EN 471 IEC 61482-2:2009 Protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. This performance standard specifies requirements and test methods applicable to materials and garments used by electrical workers to protect against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. EN ISO 14116:2008 The Protective performance for limited flame spread of materials, material assemblies and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of the clothing burning and constituting a hazard.
