Red Hot Red Carpet at 71 st Golden Globes By Deborah Yonick, jewelry style expert The first major red carpet event of the New Year, the 71 st Golden Globes did not disappoint fashion faithfuls tuning in to see what their favorite celebrities were wearing. While a spectrum of looks in eveningwear flourished from structured to flowing, strapless to long sleeves, there were several strong trends including shades of red, black and white, shimmer and shine, and a fringe element most prominently expressed in earrings, pendants and bracelets. Emerald, Pantone s 2013 Color of the Year continues to be a key choice to pop color on the carpet. Rush actress Olivia Wilde showed off her baby bump in an emerald sequin Gucci gown; while Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbi wore a white Gucci with emerald crystal trim and emerald platform heels. But it was the green gems that stole the show, especially jewels like the sugarloaf cabochon emerald and diamond platinum ring by Neil Lane on Jennifer Lawrence, Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle, in white Dior with black trim. Ethereal gems like moonstone and rock crystal have become red carpet favorites, beautifully illustrated in Irene Neuwirth jewels worn by musician Joanna Newsom, Sarah Paulson ( 12 Years A Slave and "American Horror Story: Coven"), and Sedgwick.
