We replaced the traditional paper labels by an indelible mark on the fruit skin, and this system has lots of advantages! First, it s environmentally friendly and it s cheap, because it eliminates the use of paper, inks, glue, and only uses light. That s why it was developed with the support of the eco-innovation program of the European Union. But how does it work? First of all, the fruit pass underneath a light beam that is projected on their upper skin. At the beginning, you don t notice anything on the skin, because the mark we make is so faint. But little by little, in a matter of minutes, the mark becomes visible. How s that possible? That s quite simple! By shedding light onto the fruit skin, the cells that receive it retract. A bit like when you re sunbathing on the beach.
