POP YOUR COLOR Alexis Mabille 4 Oscar de la Renta Proenza Schouler Jason Wu With colors this vibrant, keep your look simple but with high impact. A little dab of make-up and a simple hairdo will be more than enough. Colors exude a youthful energy that we all search for. And this season, models blazed down the runway in vivid mix-and-match colors, giving outfits a bold new dynamism. Shop for clothes and accessories in neon orange, hot pink, cobalt blue, and shades of green and yellow. VPL Pierre Hardy Elie Saab Maïa N. Proenza Schouler Erdem David Szeto VPL Marios Schwab Oscar de la Renta J. Mendel Hervé Léger Peter Pilotto Naeem Khan Zero + Maria Cornejo Alexander Wang Add some interest to the asymmetrical dress with a vintage brooch pinned to the side of the waist. Hair has to be up to show off the neckline of the dress. Erin Fetherston Whether you want to channel your version of Flash Dance (the movie) or go for a more romantic look, asymmetrical off-the-shoulder trend is an enchanting look for formal evenings. The one-strap cut draws attention to the shoulder and the face. So show your pearly whites because everyone will be looking at you. Douglas Hannant Oscar de la Renta RM by Roland Mouret Derek Lam Christopher Kane Elie Saab ASYMMETRICALLY CORRECT 5

SERIOUS SHOULDERS 6 If you only buy one thing this season (unlikely, we know) make sure it s the 80s-inspired dramatic jacket/dress with strong shoulders. The little volume at the shoulders makes your posture seem stronger and it slims down the waist, boasting an effortless day-to-night glamour. Elie Saab Oscar de la Renta Erdem J. Mendel Matthew Williamson Strong shoulder pieces make a great silhouette with skinny pants and fitted skirts. Just add tall decorated heels and a small structured clutch in exotic leather. Peter Pilotto Balmain Hervé Léger Ports 1961 Balmain Hervé Léger Collette Dinnigan Erin Fetherston Elie Saab Hervé Léger Bruno Frisoni Azzaro Giambattista Valli Marios Schwab Malandrino Erdem Halston Don t clash out the look with conflicting colored accessories; instead opt for distinctive accessories of the same color but with beading, shine, ruffles, and other extravagant embellishments. Black has never left the scene for the past several seasons. But this season, the classic color is stronger than ever and has been reworked in extra-special and super-luxe pieces. Designers looked toward the future with noir eyes. Think severe shapes, sleek cutouts, and body-hugging silhouettes that brought back black in a new feel. Vera Wang Christian Louboutin Issa Bodyamr BACK TO BLACK 7

PARTY GIRL Oscar de la Renta Giambattista Valli Dressing up with luxurious pieces brings out your inner lady. Take your pick from lavish evening gowns to sumptuous cocktail dresses that beg to be noticed. Think bright jewel tones, luxe detailing, and elaborate couture shapes. Luisa Beccaria Matthew Williamson Erdem Oscar de la Renta Azzaro Isaac Mizrahi Bruno Frisoni Luisa Beccaria Elie Saab Erin Fetherston Temperley London Carolina Herrera Giambattista Valli Marchesa Christian Louboutin Roberta Furlanetto Monique Lhuillier Naeem Khan Celestina With evening gowns taking the center stage, tone down on your accessories and choose one standout statement piece to complete your look. Show off your favorite pair of dangling earrings or go for a dazzling cocktail ring. Elie Saab Erdem Naeem Khan Isaac Mizrahi Jason Wu Marios Schwab 8 Balmain 9

PRETTY PLEATS & ROUGH RUFFLES 10 RM by Roland Mouret Elie Saab Devi Kroell Pieces with big accordion pleats and threedimensional ruffles ruled the runway this season, forming the base structure of everything from dresses to separates. The tricky folds and origami fabric detailing reveal a flair for the artistic and add a bold statement to any look. Christopher Kane Behnaz Sarafpour Roberta Furlanetto Balance out a dramatic pleated or ruffled skirt with a simple fitted top and vice versa. Finish this hyper-versatile trend with sharp stilettos to give it some tough attitude. Derek Lam Vera Wang Alexis Mabille Jason Wu Hervé Léger Giambattista Valli Jason Wu Try optical prints, animal motifs, monochromic accessories, and pieces with luxurious fabrics or exotic leather, all piled on at once to give your look an energetic clash of pieces with a fashion-forward look. Oscar de la Renta Erdem Oscar de la Renta Christian Louboutin Let your imagination run wild and take an adventurous trip to fearlessly explore a world of mix n match. This Fall has anything-goes appeal. Designers went wild with over-the-top prints, patterns, and textures. Looks were laden with exotic characters. Temperley London Matthew Williamson Christopher Kane Devi Kroell Halston Giles Luisa Beccaria ONE WORLD 11

THE KING OF BLING 12 Carolina Herrera Douglas Hannant Alexis Mabille Behnaz Sarafpour Matthew Williamson In a season where detailing is key, sequins in all shapes and sizes conquered the creations of the biggest fashion guns. The gleaming detail adds a touch of subtle sparkle to any outfit. Long gone are the days when sequined clothes were saved for weddings, Eid, and New Year s Eve. Instead, take cues from designers who used sequins on clothes to be worn 365 days a year. Badgley Mischka Pierre Hardy J. Mendel Naeem Khan Balmain Marchesa Vera Wang Naeem Khan Kara Ross Luisa Beccaria Derek Lam Christian Louboutin Pile comfy layers over sequined tops and dresses. The result? A low-key yet subtly glamorous look that would work day and night. Shiny metallics have look-at-me impact, so for a modern way to incorporate a dose of gold to your wardrobe, opt for understated neutral hued clothes and accessories. Lift your dressing to a whole new level of luxe with this season s textured, beaten, and beaded golds and bronzes. It has a luminously modern richness that creates an unexpected and easy-going vibe. Pierre Hardy Devi Kroell Giambattista Valli Ports 1961 Giles Oscar de la Renta Luisa Beccaria Bodyamr Oscar de la Renta Christian Louboutin GLEAMING GOLD 13

THE MINIMAL MOVEMENT Elie Saab Oscar de la Renta VPL 14 Whoever said minimal equals boring does not have an eye for fashion. This new severe mood is an exercise in perfect simplicity. Fuss Free tailoring, understated looks with subdued cuts, and neutral hues dominated the runway. Behnaz Sarafpour Ports 1961 Alexander Wang Derek Lam Elie Saab Collette Dinnigan Alexis Mabille RM by Roland Mouret Pierre Hardy Teamed with slicked-back hair and almost bare face, statement accessories pair up perfectly with this neutral clothing palette. Go for fanciful bright clutches, edgy heels, and over-the-top necklaces. Derek Lam Redux Charles Chang-Lima Halston Christian Louboutin Behnaz Sarafpour Derek Lam Devi Kroell Alexander Wang Ports 1961 Collette Dinnigan Alexis Mabille Naeem Khan Oscar de la Renta With the current mood being on the somber side, the simplicity of white is very in this season. Designers used this lusciously stark color in various structures and patterns to bring the classic color to life and keep the looks fresh and ideal for frigid temperatures. Marios Schwab To wear winter white, go for wintery textures like wool and bouclé, rather than something summery like eyelet or linen. Choose darker accessories with high contrast to give your whites a contemporary finish. Celestina Redux Charles Chang-Lima Elie Saab Maia N Jason Wu WINTER WHITE 15

Christian Louboutin Balmain Bruno Frisoni Christian Louboutin Christian Louboutin Christian Louboutin FEET FIRST Pierre Hardy Pierre Hardy Christian Louboutin For a fast new-season fix, update your wardrobe with fashion s it accessory: Shoes. This season, shoes have more pulling power than a red Maserati. The designs are real works of art with extreme detailing. Designers played with texture, proportion, color, and pattern. So there s something for everyone. Christian Louboutin Devi Kroell Bruno Frisoni Christian Louboutin Storm the streets in comfortable and feet-friendly flats and keep the bold platform heels for that formal event or special occasion. 16 Christian Louboutin Oscar de la Renta

20 21

Alexander Wang Carnivorous, savage, caged and industrial are a few qualities that helped define the direction of Alexander Wang s Fall 2009 collection. This sexually charged season introduces sleekness and sophistication in a new way by offering dressier and more tailored silhouettes than in past seasons. 22 23

Alexis Mabille Let's be in favor of a battle between black, a color that we adore so much, and the delicate makeup tones that we know well will make us pretty... Alexis allows us all the freedom of an emotional fashion dialogue where love and humour prevail, and some insolent touches intervene. To seduce one self is to be seductive. 24 25

Azzaro Vanessa Seward is pleased to present the Fall-Winter 2009-2010 Azzaro Collection, inspired by bows, embroidered jewels and flowing ruffles. Chic sweatshirt : dresses in lamé, charmeuse and lurex. Embroidered jewels: dresses with embroidered trompe-l oeil necklaces, jewel adorned coat. Bows: embroidered or in crepe, the bow becomes a true gem, paired with hats with jewelled veil. Evening jumpsuit and tuxedo highwaisted pants. Dresses and coats in weightless ruffles in lace and organza. 26 27

Badgley Mischka The Fall 2009 collection was inspired by the subtly, simplicity and polished surfaces of Constantin Brancusi s bronze sculptures. Mark Badgley and James Mischka 28 29

Balmain Decarnin certainly proved he's the leader of the disco fever he has single-handedly triggered this season. He had the shortest, tightest body dresses witnessed anywhere: smothered in Swarovski crystal, flouncing up at the shoulder, tightly bound in satin drape or quilted. The cult peaked-shoulder Balmain jacket was reiterated in force: same signature shape, now manifested as a tuxedo jacket, and often paired with new drapey harem pants or skinny jean-cut black trousers. Every look was thrust into deep-cuffed suede boots with a stack of silver buckles running up the side. 30 31

Behnaz Sarafpour Modernist sculptures were the starting point of inspiration for this collection. -Behnaz Sarafpour 32 33

Bodyamr The secret siren of Bodyamrs AW09-10 collection takes the garbo approach to Socialising, yet on the occasions she is seen at night, this cool but Passionate woman dominates the room she enters, fixes her sights on her Prey, and embodies the silver screen vixens; with the prowess to dazzle Whilst she corrupts. -Bodyamr 34 35

Bruno Frisoni Eccentricity, fun and luxury are the themes of this collection. It s all about wearing the accessories that make a statement. Just have fun with colour and style! -Bruno Frisoni 36 37

Celestina Skins, shells, bugs, metal, wood... these are found in the world I choose to live in. They help me become creative because in them I see their natural beauty and with the element of fire I am able to give them another form, some other function and yet another purpose. They are reincarnated into another beautiful object but their images are frozen to be remembered as what they were before. I am inspired to recreate. -Celestina Ocampo 38 39

Christian Louboutin As I never design around fashion or trends, there is always variety in every collection. This season there are studs, animal prints, a lot of texture and mixing of fabrications, such as lace, pony and crystals, all in one shoe. There is also a real richness in the fabrics used, and we added new, shiny skins that have a modern feel. -Christian Louboutin 40 41

Christopher Kane Aw09 season is the toughest regarding the time you have to experiment and find your key source of inspiration. I looked at old nude/life drawings from college that had been executed using different widths of black markers. They were very erratic in style. I really wanted to portray these initial drawings onto a real body. Overall the collection appeared clean and minimal - a very modern dress code. -Christopher kane 42 43

Collette Dinnigan Inspired by Hollywood & the moody elegance of an Edwardian era. Glamorous sophistication is reflected in crystal-encrusted embroideries, the restrained exuberance perfectly complimenting the mix of moonlight metallic s, opulent lace, voluminous tulle and sequin clusters. 44 45

Derek Lam The Fall 2009 collection is inspired by elements of eclectic and rich interiors, specifically the homes of Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent. In these spaces refined and modern components are layered with those that are primitive and historic. Desert, mink, tortoise shell and tiger's eye are accented with muted brights. Gold, amber, turquoise and lapis appear as if they have been pulled from a well-worn Oriental carpet. The soft desert tones echo those in the ready-to-wear collection. The materials are rich with contrasting animal textures: python, jaguar-pony, suede, goat leather, shearling, and a signature horn heel. 46 47

Devi Kroell It's the search for luxury that goes beyond the expected - the juxtaposition of ideas to create an ethereal look for a fierce intelligent woman. It's about colors to lift the spirits during these rough economic times. 48 49

Douglas Hannant Modern Classics New York Chic. -Douglas Hannant 50 51

Elie Saab A quietly luxurious Parisian spirit infuses the collection, with graphic cuts and structured lines creating a new dialogue. It is a different approach that heralds an elegant daywear line with signature glamour. Long, lean looks in monochrome and two-tone, colour a modern silhouette. Lighter shades of cream, glazed chestnut and powder grey are treated as colour blocks balanced against a series of draped dresses in dusty blue and celadon green with interlacing straps that bare the shoulders. Embroidery anchors skirts in crepe georgette of infinite lightness. Micro silk prints define key dress silhouettes. 52 53

Elie Saab 54 55

Erdem This AW09 season we really wanted something graphic and quite bold, I thought our girl this season is more of the world: part Russian, Japanese and French. We wanted her to feel really young but also defiant. But beautifully defiant. -Erdem Moralioglu 56 57

Erin Fetherston The Tin Soldier meets the Jewel Box Ballerina - the Erin Fetherston A/W 09/10 collection fuses the solid and delicate elements of the fantasy world; trim and polished tailoring in rich silk jacquards march alongside romantic silk tulle hourglass dresses. This collection perfectly illustrates the Erin Fetherston world of femininity, fantasy, and individuality proposing a wardrobe of special pieces that seamlessly allow a woman to dress from day to evening. 58 59

Giambattista Valli I was inspired partly from Mister Saint Laurent, but his lifestyle than the fashion. I was inspired by his glorious years when you had a little feeling of decadence, no boundaries, nor rules, it was all about eclectism but also, from feeling of freedom of the life of Talitha Getty. I also think that today, you design for ten women a day. I like the idea to offer a large alternative to women's today: I want them to feel that I accompany them for every moment of the day. -Giambattista Valli 60 61

Giles The Autumn/Winter 2009 collection is about re-capturing all the fun of playing with fashion while I was at Central St Martins. It is a collection of re-visiting all the things of my own I have liked and re-working them into I hope, something better. -Giles Deacon 62 63

64 65

Halston This Fall 2009 season Halston will reinterpret the traditional show format with the launch of a digital concept revealing a 360-degree view of the Ready-to-Wear collection. The initiative synthesizes the most visual and tangible elements of Halston, and brings these to realization in an exclusively commissioned production, fusing the genres of fashion, film, music and art that serve as the foundation of the brand. This is a small step of innovation from Halston yet a large leap for the industry. 66 67

Hervé Léger For Fall 2009 HERVE LEGER by Max Azria drums to the beat of an urban tribe. A gradient palette of earth tones is polished by rich shades of deep ebony. Using iconic bandages and patch-working textures of velvet, boucle, and snakeskin, we create the modern carapace for the female form. Exotic prints, metallic beading, and woven techniques intensify the collection s primal sensuality. 68 69

Hockley Uniquely pieced together in an enigmatic way, Hockley created sumptuous silhouettes with a new take on classic luxury. 70 71

Issa The Issa collection continues to offer relaxed, yet super chic, clothes that aim to uncomplicate the modern life. The monks robes can twist, knot and drape asymmetrically but the translation into Issa is always unstructured and comfortable. A staple of the Issa collection is print, this season the print story is a pilgrimage through monochrome and tri colour surface. For solids an enlightened palette; cherry red, sunshine orange, lipstick pink and ultra marine blue. For fabrics; super soft cashmeres from mongolia, velvets and silk jersey. 72 73

J. Mendel I wanted to take a classical base and reinterpret it for the woman of tomorrow. -Gilles Mendel 74 75

Jason Wu The Fall / Winter 2009 Collection was inspired by etchings of Arthur Rackham who famously illustrated Alice in Wonderland with homage to the shadow print artworks of Kara Walker. The textures, colors and silhouettes are all exclusive to Jason Wu. 76 77

Luisa Beccaria Luisa Beccaria dreams about a woman with a thousand souls, multifaceted, voluble but always authentic. A woman who is voluptuous and audacious but also poetic and elegant, a dreamer who is at the same time decisive and contemporary. The A/W 09-10 Luisa Beccaria collection interprets these many facets with a show that builds on continuous research, with pieces that possess a strong personality, and are seductive but never ephemeral. 78 79

Malandrino Surprise creates desire: the gesture of a hand holding a drape, a wing draping the waist, an eye with a teardrop evoking emotion. The net veils the body and creates nudity - the nudity becomes an illusion. Black, nude, sky, shaft of fuschia and violet associated with metal underlined beauty and mystery. 80 81

Marchesa I wanted the whole thing to be like a fairy tale. I wanted to have fantasy. -Georgina Chapman 82 83

Marios Schwab My Autumn Winter 2009 collection explores the many interpretations of expansion. Playing with the concept of variations in size, sculpted dresses are encapsulated in voluminous garments of identical, but magnified, contours. 3D anaglyphic prints are enlarged and projected on to dresses to emphasise the impression of expansion. I also looked closely at Rodin s sculptures; drawing on his example, I used translucent fabric to sculpt fragments of the body while leaving the rest of the garment unadorned and untouched. -Marios Schwab 84 85

Matthew Williamson This collection truly encapsulates the strength of spirit of the Matthew Williamson girl for AW09, focusing on the contrast between loose, feminine volume and intense warrior-like detailing found on necklines and cuffs. Inspiration taken from traditional Tibetan outerwear is hinted at through curved seam paneling in contrasting textures, and further highlighted through the bespoke brocade piping and sequins. 86 87

Monique Lhuillier Fluid silhouettes in silk jerseyeasy chic pieces. Sheer silk tulle cocktail dresses in Bordeaux and noir. Structured suits and fitted day dresses in navy and noir brocade. Luxurious textures and a play on layering. Sophisticated elegance with ease Welcome to Fall! 88 89

Naeem Khan This season, the focus is on creating truly luxurious clothes. It's as much about reinforcing the spirit of hope as it is about creating desire; we are suggesting a new kind of opulence - of intelligent indulgence over blind gluttony. It is a sort of splendor that won't quickly tarnish, a timeless beauty that will endure for generations to come. -Naeem Khan 90 91

Oscar de la Renta A fresh look at the modern, feminine wardrobe. -Oscar de la Renta 92 93

Oscar de la Renta 94 95

Oscar de la Renta 96 97

Peter Pilotto Our inspiration is always a continuation, we look at things we love and translate them in different ways. -Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos 98 99

Pierre Hardy I wanted the Winter collection really feminine, graphical and sophisticated using rich materials such as snake, rhinestones, satin and sequences. There is a duality in the design of the collection, going to really simple shapes to really complicate ones. We could name the Winter collection : from minimalism to excess! -Pierre Hardy 100 101

Ports 1961 This season Tia Cibani journeys into the enigmatic past of India s Mughal Dynasty, an era rich in culture, art, and creativity. In particular Tia turns to an empress of Persian descent, the legendary beauty Nur Jahan, known as much for her poetry and artistic sophistication as for her political power. Drawing inspiration from this rich heritage, Tia explores a multitude of paths. Masculine tailoring with ornate detail yields a look that is romantic yet sharply defined. Asymmetric yoke closures draw attention to fitted bodices. Narrow waistlines swell into feminine fullness at the hems, which accentuate the idealized form of Mughal grace, and echo the contemporary trend of fit and flared shapes. 102 103

Proenza Schouler Now is not the time for exploring things outside your ethos. Contrarily, what feels right is quite the opposite: refining your unique vision and trying to arrive at some kind of core. -Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough 104 105

REDUX Charles Chang-Lima For his Fall 2009 collection, REDUX Charles Chang-Lima was inspired by the soft beauty and femininity of the Rose. This delicate motif can be seen in the couture finishing touches to the collection. It is viewed in the way Chang-Lima hand rolls chiffon fabrics to create rosettes as details on sleeves and necklines or how he hand folds and drapes the flounce of a skirt on a party dress. 106 107

RM by Roland Mouret One of the catch phrases of the season was about the TTD. Roland said: The TTD is the new LBD of the recession. The TTD being the Tunic-Top-Dresses in the collection, which were integral to the show and a very strong concept, as well as being very versatile. 108 109

Roberta Furlanetto Roberta Furlanetto continues in her quest for new interpretations of classic couture techniques, applying unusual, experimental procedures. Examples include the hems and sleeves of her outerwear, in which the fabric is cut and then woven to create a relief decorative effect, and the small wool bustier patterned with interwoven ribbon and intarsia slashed motifs, for wearing over an asymmetric chiffon blouse. The evening gown is in silk organza, styled with layered fringed hems spiralling downwards on the silhouette. 110 111

Temperley London Temperley London s Autumn/Winter 2009/10 collection combines elements of both East and West in its varied color palette, silhouettes, and detailing. A rich infusion of color and texture, it contains shades of bordeaux, red currant, ochre, cobalt, navy, charcoal, and ocean with highlights of gold. 112 113

Vera Wang This season, inspired by Peggy Guggenheim and her extraordinary life in Venice in the late 30 s, I focused on simpler shapes for a more modern, sensuous look.
