St. Michael School Official Dress Code 2017-18 The St. Michael School dress code is designed to promote the educational environment in the school. BOYS UNIFORMS: Pants Navy blue dress pants (no denim, corduroy, baggy or cargo pants or faded pants material). Boys in Grades 4-8 must wear dress pants on official dress days and mass days. Pants must be hemmed and worn at the waist. Pre-Kg -3 may wear navy uniform shorts as the official dress pants. It is recommended they may wear pants or shorts with an elastic waist band. If pants or shorts have belt loops, then a belt must be worn. Shirts Pre-Kg- Official uniform WHITE knit shirt with St. Michael printed on the shirt in dark blue or the St. Michael crest printed in dark blue. Grade Kg- Official St. Michael WHITE knit shirt with St. Michael Crest or St. Michael printed on shirt. Uniform shirt must be tucked into pants at all times. Boys in Grades 1-8: Official St. Michael blue knit shirt or blue dry fit shirt with St. Michael Crest or St. Michael printed on shirt, available at Young Fashions and A+ School Uniforms. Boys in Grades 7-8 may wear a light blue button down oxford shirt in lieu of blue knit shirt, St. Michael School or crest must be printed on the shirt (short or long sleeve). T-Shirts If a T-shirt is worn under the shirt, it must be solid white, short sleeve no design or writing on the T-shirt. Socks Solid white, solid black or solid navy crew socks, no writing or symbols on socks. Ankle socks are not allowed. Belts Belts must be worn with pants or shorts. Belts must be solid navy, solid black or solid dark brown. Boys, PreKg-3 do not need a belt if they wear pants or short with elastic bands. Walking Shorts/Boys Boys in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade may wear the official navy blue uniform walking short. Shorts may not be shorter than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling. Walking shorts may not be worn on mass days, official dress days or days designated by the school for boys in grades 4-8. (Students who violate this rule will be denied the privilege of wearing the walking short.) Regulation belts (see above) must be worn with all shorts except for Pre-kg-3rd grade students who wear shorts with an elastic band.

Shoes Must be a matched pair of shoes, tennis shoes or dark brown leather shoes (see top of p.37 & 38). Tennis Shoes must be solid black, including logo or solid white including logo with laces matching the color of the shoe. (Pre-8) Tennis shoes for boys in Pre-kg -4th may have Velcro closures. Prek-4th Grade Boys Only (1) Dark brown lace up leather shoe, (2) the dark brown leather shoe/velcro closing or (3) the dark brown leather Sperry (Charter Dark Brown), brown or black leather Ollie - Sperry, or brown/black/ white leather Ollie Jr - Sperry (4) solid black or white tennis shoes (see p.37 & 38 -Shoes). Regulation boy shoes are available at Puddles and Lace and Cramer s in Crowley or Greenwood Shoes in Lafayette. (Other brands are acceptable and available, but must be a copy of the official shoe.) Grades 5-8 Boy s Shoes (1) Dark Brown leather lace up shoe or dark brown leather saddle oxford, (2) Sperry Top-Sider Men s Authentic Original Boat Shoe, solid dark brown, Amaretto only. (no webbing on shoe), (3) Sperry Men s WAHOO LTT Leather Sneaker dark brown, or (4) Sperry Big Kid s WAHOO Leather Sneaker white. Regulation boy shoes are available at Puddles and Lace and Cramer s in Crowley or Greenwood Shoes in Lafayette. (Other brands are acceptable and available, but must be a copy of the official shoe.) Name of the student should be written in black ink inside the shoe for easy identity since all shoes are uniform. Crew socks must be worn with shoes; ankle socks not acceptable. Hair Boy s hair must be well groomed and at a length that does not touch eyebrows or goes over the ears. Bleached or dyed hair is not acceptable. GIRLS UNIFORMS: Skirts Grades 3-8 - Official St. Michael School plaid skirt. Skirt must be 3 inches or less from floor when kneeling. Skirts are to be worn on mass days and official uniform dress days designed by school. All girls must have a skirt and hems must be adjusted to meet regulation as student grows. (grades 3-8). Shorts worn under the jumper must be the official uniform short or solid navy blue in color. Skorts Official St. Michael School plaid skort may be worn by students in grades Kg-8 on days other than official uniform dress days. Skorts must be at least 3 inches or less from floor when kneeling. Jumpers Grades 1-3 - Official St. Michael School plaid jumper. Jumper must be no less than 3 inches from the floor when student is kneeling. White parochial school blouse is worn with the jumper. Shorts worn under the jumper must be the official uniform short or solid navy blue in color. Walking Shorts/Girls Girls in grades Pre-kg -8th may wear the official school uniform plaid walking shorts. Shorts may not be shorter than 3 inches from the floor when kneeling. Walking shorts may not be worn on mass days, official dress days or other days designated by the school. (Students who violate this rule will be denied the privilege of wearing the walking

Blouses White parochial plain school blouse, over blouse or white school knit shirt must have the St. Michael School crest or St. Michael School printed on it. Blouse and shirt must be tucked in at all times. Sailor Blouses Girls may wear sailor blouse with walking shorts or skort in grades Kg-4th (no crest or embroidery needed, but the tie in school plaid required). Blue and White Checked Smocked Dresses (PRE-K & K) The smock is the official uniform for the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten girls. The smocked dress comes with a checked bloomer that may be worn under the dress. Blue or white shorts may be worn under the smocked dress in place of the bloomers. The smocked dress is available through Young Fashions or A+ Uniforms in Crowley Dress Slacks On cold days, girls in Pre-kg through 8th may wear navy blue dress slacks (no denim, corduroy, or faded material). Slacks must be worn at the waist Official uniform blouse is worn with slacks Belts Solid navy, solid black or solid dark brown belts must be worn if shorts or slacks have belt loops Belts must be worn at the waist Under-shirts Solid white short sleeve undershirt may be worn under blouses/no writing or designs may be on the undershirt Tights On cold days solid color navy or white tights or leggings may be worn under the uniform shorts, skorts, jumpers or skirts Socks are not required with tights but are required with leggings. Tights and leggings must be in good condition with no holes or rips The white crew sock must be worn with white leggings and the blue crew sock must be worn with blue leggings. Leggings must be in good condition no holes or rips. Socks Solid white or navy blue crew or knee socks are required. Other Shoe Regulation Information for Boys and Girls Shoes must be a matched pair of shoes Shoelaces must be a matched pair Shoelaces must be tied at all times Shoelaces on tennis shoes must be the white or black depending on the color of the shoe Shoelaces on dark brown shoes must be dark brown Shoelaces on blue and white saddle oxfords must be navy or white Shoes not acceptable: Sandals, Mules, Heelies, Shoes with lights or rollers, Flip-Flops, Crocks, Cleats, Slides, Boots, Platform shoes, Flats of any design, including canvas (Toms or Tom like), ballerina or ball type flats, Open heeled or open toed shoes Charms or other decorations are not allowed on shoes Shoes must be worn properly as intended by the manufacturer (i.e. walking on backs of shoes not allowed). Regulation shoes are available at Cramer s, Puddles and Lace in Crowley and Greenwood Shoes in Lafayette. Other brands of these same design shoes are available in area local stores and online, however, they must be an exact copy of the regulation shoe. Hair Hair should be well groomed Excessive dyed or bleached hair is not acceptable Makeup and Jewelry Makeup and fingernail polish are not allowed Jewelry around the neck, bracelets and pendants are not allowed for boys or girls. The exception is a chain with a religious medal worn under the shirt or blouse. Traditional scapulars are acceptable Small rings, watches, earrings (girls only) may be worn Earrings (girls only) must be small, non-distracting and unobstructive Only one set of earrings may be worn Multiple piercings are not allowed Piercings on the body are not allowed Head Wear/Scarves A solid navy or white scarf may be worn on cold days and must be removed inside the classroom Students may wear hoods that are attached to winter coats or solid colored-ski caps (white or navy) on very cold days, but caps and hoods must be removed inside the classroom or school building. All other caps, cowboy hats, baseball caps, etc. are not allowed BOWS/GIRLS ONLY Girls may wear bows or ribbons (not wider than 3 inches in width) or headband (not wider than 1ó inches in width). No ornamentation may be on the bows or headbands, except for a small religious medal. Bows may have students monogram or the school monogram or student name. Bows may be in the school plaid, solid red, parochial school navy, white, the school s hunter green, navy & white, or the school s colors of blue and gold. If in doubt, check with the office. Coats, Sweaters, Jackets All pullover sweaters, cardigan sweaters, pullover or cardigan sweatshirts, jackets must be navy blue, with or without school emblem. (No writing, advertisement, pictures or illustrations and no camouflage are allowed). Also not allowed are denim (jean) or camouflage jackets, over shirts, sport jerseys, long sweaters (below hips), and jacket sweaters or sweatshirts from other schools. St. Michael navy sweatshirt with St. Michael in white lettering (sweatshirts and fleece pullovers will be sold on campus in August by the Athletic Department.) Heavy outer coats of any color are permissible. They must be solid in color preferably navy blue.

Spirit Shirt Day On Wednesday (beginning after Labor Day) of each week (unless special dress day) students may wear the official school T-shirt with their school uniform. (T-shirts are sold at the beginning of school only the current year s T-shirt can be worn unless specified differently). Jean Day Jean day will be designated during the school year. On these days students have the option of paying $1.00 (usually for club fundraiser or service project) to wear jeans, jean skirt, or jean capris. Students will wear uniform shirt, blouse or approved St. Michael T-shirt with jeans. Spirit shirt days or sport days- St. Michael team shirts, club shirts or shirts sold by the school may be worn. These days must be approved by the Administration and a $2.00 fee will be charged. Spirit shirt must be approved by Administration. (Shoes must be regulation leather shoes or tennis shoes with socks. Belts must be worn with jeans.) P.E. Uniform Students in grades 4-8 are required to wear P.E. uniforms for P. E. class. Uniforms consist of navy blue short pants with or without the school emblem (knee length short pants are acceptable) and a light blue St. Michael T-shirt. Tennis shoes and white socks are required for P.E. and may be stored in PE lockers for class P. E. uniforms must be marked with student s name and brought home regularly for washing P. E. shirts can be purchased through A+ Uniforms (formerly Crowley Sewing Center) and Tshirts, etc. (Crowley) On cold days students may wear navy blue sweat pants (for P.E. only) P.E. shorts sold by SPC and approved by Administration acceptable for P.E. classes. Prek third grade students are asked to wear soft sole shoes, i.e.: tennis shoes (see shoe regulation p.36-38) on class PE days. (Boots and hard sole shoes are not to be worn for PE as they hurt the children s feet while playing in P.E. and mark the gym floor.) Please Note Uniform code is applicable from the time a student arrives at school until he or she is picked up to go home. Uniform code is also applicable at school events where uniforms are required The makeup and jewelry rules are also applicable for all school events unless special exceptions are announced (i.e., school dances). Items not listed in this code may not be worn (i.e., suspenders, sun glasses). Permanent markers are to be used to label each item of uniform including P.E. uniforms, inside shoes, jackets, and coats (please mark each piece of student clothing). Navy blue refers to parochial navy blue. Shirts must always be tucked into uniform pants, shorts, skirts or skorts unless the over-blouse or sailor blouse is worn Care of Property students must take care of property. Students must never write on their clothes or bodies Signing autographs on uniforms at the end of the year is not allowed. In the spirit of Christian charity, uniforms which are no longer needed should be given to the office for distribution to needy families. Out of Uniform Students who come to school out of uniform will be disciplined. (Please check handbook under dress code). Parents are asked to comply with uniform rules. THE PRINCIPAL SHALL BE THE FINAL INTERPRETER OF THE DRESS CODE.

Purchase of Uniforms Uniforms may be purchased from uniform vendors or any merchant who carries the official uniform items. A+ School Uniforms (formerly Crowley Sewing Center 337-788-2248), Linda s School Time (Lafayette 1-337-234-1248), and Young Fashions (Lafayette 1-337-988-3600), Book Sacks Roller book sacks are not allowed on gym floor.
