DUS 1687-3: 2017 Foreword Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a parastatal under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives established under Cap 327, of the Laws of Uganda, as amended. UNBS is mandated to coordinate the elaboration of standards and is (a) a member of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and (b) a contact point for the WHO/FAO Codex Alimentarius Commission on Food Standards, and (c) the National Enquiry Point on TBT Agreement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The work of preparing Uganda Standards is carried out through Technical Committees. A Technical Committee is established to deliberate on standards in a given field or area and consists of key stakeholders including government, academia, consumer groups, private sector and other interested parties. Draft Uganda Standards adopted by the Technical Committee are widely circulated to stakeholders and the general public for comments. The committee reviews the comments before recommending the draft standards for approval and declaration as Uganda Standards by the National Standards Council. The committee responsible for this document is Technical Committee UNBS/TC 7, Textile, Leather Paper and Related Products, Subcommittee SC 1, Textile and Related Products. DUS 1687-3: 2017 School Clothing Part 3: Trousers and Shorts 1 Scope This part of DUS 1687 specifies the materials, cut, make and trim of trousers and shorts. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content constitutes requirements of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. DUS 1687-1, School clothing Part 1: General requirements for school clothing US ISO 4915, Textiles Stitch types Classification and terminology 3 Definitions For the purposes of this part of DUS 1687, following definition applies: Size designation The age (for sizes to fit intended wearers up to twelve years), or the Imperial size (for sizes to fit intended wearers older than twelve years) as well as the numerical value, in centimetres, of the waist girth of the intended wearer 4 Materials 4.1 Outer Materials The outer material shall be of the required fabric that complies with the relevant requirements given in table 1 of DUS 1687-1. (The note to 4.1 of DUS 1687-1 shall also apply) The colour(s) of the dyed fabric shall be an acceptable match to the required colour(s) as agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. 4.2 Supplementary materials and components The supplementary materials and components shall comply with the relevant requirements laid down in 4.2 of DUS 1687-1. 5 Style, size and make 5.1 Style The trousers or shorts should have two side pockets and one hip pocket, and may have a fob pocket, if required. v

The waist band shall have belt-loops or shall be elasticized; the bottoms shall be plain or shall have permanent turn-ups, all as required. The fly shall be slide-fastening. 5.2 Size The trousers and shorts should be supplied in one (or more) of the size designations given in column 1 of table 1, as required. Measurements of shorts, determined in accordance with 4.3.4 of DUS 1687-1, shall conform to the appropriate values given in column 2 of table 1 Measurements of trousers, determined in accordance with 4.3.4 of DUS 1687-1, shall conform to the appropriate values given in columns 3, 4 and 5 of table 1. 36 94 86 To fit waist 92 38 99 86 To fit waist 97 40 104 86 To fit waist 102 1)Based on the age and the waist measurements of the intended wearer 5.3 Make 5.3.1 General The relevant requirements for garments given in 4.3 of DUS 1687-1 shall apply. 5.3.2 Waist band 5.3.2.1 Belt-loops A waist band with belt-loops should have at least six belt-loops in the case of size designations 54 to 76 (inclusive) and eight belt-loops in other cases, shall be lined with an acceptable ready-made band lining, and shall fasten at the top of the fly with a hook and bar(see 4.2.6 of DUS 1687-1) or other acceptable fastening 5.3.2.2 Elasticized waist band An elasticized waist band should be ruched with elastic webbing over a length of at least 80mm at each side seam, shall be lined with outer material and interlined with an appropriate fusible interlining (see 4.2.1 of DUS 1687-1), and shall fasten at the front with two hooks and bars on the extension of the band or with an acceptable alternative. The nominal width of the elastic webbing shall be 35 mm. 5.3.3 Fly The fly shall be furnished with an appropriate interlocking slide fastener (see 4.2.4 of DUS 1687-1). It shall be secured with a bar tack at the fork end. 5.3.4 Pockets Pocket bags shall be of pocketing of an appropriate type (see 4.2.2 of DUS 1687-1), and shall be bar-tacked at each end of the pocket mouth. On shorts, the hip pocket shall be of the patch type and shall fasten with a button or a press-stud. 5.3.5 Bottoms All bottoms shall be blind-felled. 5.3.6 Buttonholes Each buttonhole shall be of such length as to acceptably accommodate the relevant button, and shall preferably be gimped and barred or fish-tailed. 5.3.7 Seams Seams shall have a width of at least 9 mm. All exposed edges shall be over locked, bound, or turned in and stitched down. The seat seam shall be sewn with stitch type 401 (see US ISO 4915).Side seams and inside leg seams shall be seam type SSa-1 (see US ISO 4915) and pressed open or safety stitched. 5.3.8 Hems The finished width of trouser hems shall be at least 50 mm. 5.3.9 Allowance for alterations Except in the case of trousers and shorts with an elasticized waist band, an allowance of at least 60 mm shall be provided at the waist on the seat seam, waist band and lining (at least 30mm on each side of the seat seam). 6 Packing, care-labelling and marking The requirements of clause 5 of DUS 1687-1 shall apply. 7 Inspection Inspection shall be done in accordance with clause 6 of DUS 1687-1 viii UNBS 2017 All rights reserved

Annex A (normative) Notes to purchasers The following requirements shall be specified in tender invitations and in each order or contract: a) the type and colour(s) of the outer material (see 4.1); b) when relevant, that a fob pocket is required (see 5.1); c) the style (see 5.1); and d) the size designation(s) required (see 5.2). Certification marking Products that conform to Uganda standards may be marked with Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Certification Mark shown in the figure below. The use of the UNBS Certification Mark is governed by the Standards Act, and the Regulations made thereunder. This mark can be used only by those licensed under the certification mark scheme operated by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and in conjunction with the relevant Uganda Standard. The presence of this mark on a product or in relation to a product is an assurance that the goods comply with the requirements of that standard under a system of supervision, control and testing in accordance with the certification mark scheme of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards. UNBS marked products are continually checked by UNBS for conformity to that standard.
