In 2014 Antioch Hosts our 5TH Annual Public Art Program REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN Artists: Showcase your Artistic Talents The Antioch Chamber is hosting Antioch s 5th Annual Charity Public Art Event for 2014... Antioch s REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN (of Lakes). Antioch will enjoy 50 delightfully designed Wooden-Framed Wall Mirrors in 2014. People will enjoy visiting these Mirrors that will reflect your own treasured art when they play our monthly contests and visit the Mirrors. PLEASE HELP: We have no art to use to promote our REFLECTIONS Art Program. We are asking that you submit your designs now in hopes to have a dozen wall mirrors completed by late December to use for early advertising promotions and to appear in our 2014 Community Guide (which goes to print in January). The Art Pieces will be available soon! Please submit your designs ASAP so we can create some early Art! Thank You! The Wall Mirror is 24 x30 in overall size. It consists of a large wooden frame with a 12 x18 mirror in the center (mirror can be removed for art). This piece can be artistically designed in either a portrait or landscape style. Plus you may modify the wooden frame. The mission of Antioch s Art Programs is to raise money for our local charities. As a result of the artistic talent of our artists and the generosity of our auction bidders, we have donated $68,000+ over the past four years with our Dogs, Bears, Chairs, and Chests! In this packet, you will find everything you need to submit designs for our 2014 Public Art Project. Throughout 2014, your art will have many opportunities to be enjoyed by the public. Promotion of your artwork will include: Artist bio on REFLECTIONS Website; Print media developed specifically for this program; Artist appearances at local Public Art Events; Additional Artist bio opportunities to be developed; & Complimentary admission to our Dinner Auction on September 12, 2014. We look forward to receiving your design proposal kit (please consider early submission - we really need some pieces done soon so we can photograph them and use them in teaser advertising for the public)! The Design Committee will select the designs for our 2014 Charity Public Art Event. These designs will be viewed by our sponsors as they select the design for their Mirror. Please take a few moments to read through the guidelines and project requirements attached. Thank you for your enthusiasm for Antioch s REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN! Barbara Porch, Executive Director Antioch Chamber of Commerce 882 Main Street, Antioch, IL 60002 Page 1 of 8

Plus you may submit design(s) very early in the hopes to be one of the featured artists in our 2014 Community Guide! Benefits Showcase your talent! Provides optimum exposure for your work. Each artist will be recognized on a special plaque displayed with the Mirror. Garner media attention through our area and beyond through print media, website publicity, promotional print materials, a plaque for your Mirror, as well as any other printed materials that may be created during the REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN program. Experience an exciting opportunity that enables you to give back to your community. Next Steps Artists whose designs are selected by sponsors will be notified. Design submission does not guarantee a sponsor. All selected designs will be compiled into a Portfolio of Artists for sponsors to review. Artists will also be invited to attend and display their design at special events throughout our Public Art Program. Design Deadline: Please submit your designs as soon as possible. We cannot secure sponsor without designs. Timing is very important. Antioch Chamber of Commerce 882 Main Street, Antioch, IL 60002 Page 2 of 8

Project Rules Antioch s REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN is a public art project that celebrates the bond between our community and the artistic talent of the public. Designs should be consistent for our community and the spirit of REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN (of Lakes). We welcome designs of an original vibrant, humorous and uplifting nature. We strongly encourage creative representations that honor the unique attributes of Antioch and the Chain of Lakes Region. Designs must be appropriate for public display. Designs that are overtly religious, political, violent or sexual in nature will not be accepted. Logo designs must be approved by the Antioch Chamber and may not be identical copyrighted images. The REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN committee evaluates all designs and retains the right to accept or reject any design. All submissions must be original work. The submission or use of copyrighted work is strictly prohibited. Copyright infringement is the unauthorized or prohibited use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright holder s exclusive rights such as the right to reproduce or perform copyrighted work, or to make derivative works. Once your design is selected by a sponsor, the Chamber will notify you and discuss timing for picking up the Mirror(s). If any changes are made to the approved design, a copy of the final design must be submitted and approved by the REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN Design Committee before the art begins. The Mirrors are handcrafted, wooden-framed and are made of poplar. Artists may alter the basic form, but cannot compromise its structural integrity. You may make the Mirror appear to be a different form. Artists have the option of adding items. Proposed additions must be made clear at the time of original submission. Artists may paint, sculpt, transform, or adorn the Mirrors. Objects attached must be affixed so that they cannot be easily removed. Attached objects must be child and moving resistant. The Mirrors will be on display in business windows during the Spring and Summer. REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN owns the rights to all submitted artwork and Mirrors. Once the Mirrors are auctioned to the public, the Mirror becomes the property of the new owner. REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN still owns the rights to the artistic renderings of the Mirrors. REFLECTIONS ON THE CHAIN reserves the right to prevent the display of a Mirror if the final design was not previously approved by the Committee. The quicker we have your designs, the sooner we can find sponsors and begin promoting this program to the public. Artist agrees to touch-up piece(s) 2 weeks prior to the Fall Public Auction to fix any imperfections or wear/tear, if necessary, that might have occurred to the Mirror. Artists whose design is selected by a sponsor will be mailed a $50 stipend upon completion of the Mirror or has the choice of receiving a duplicate plaque in lieu of the stipend.
