Why FR? 24 HIDDEN HAZARDS Firefighters understand the dangers of heat and flame better than anyone, and yet many of them are not as protected as they could and should be. Firefighter turnout gear is designed to protect the wearer against flames, sparks and embers. But what about the station wear underneath the turnout gear? CHEST: Measurement should be taken around the fullest part of the chest with arms down, just under the arms and across the shoulder blades. SLEEVE: With elbow bent, measure from center of neck (backside) to elbow and over to wrist. WAIST: Measure around waist (not pulling tightly) at the height you prefer to wear the waistband. INSEAM: Take a pair of pants that fit you well and measure from the crotch to the bottom of the leg.
