Saxon Genitive / Possessive S / Genitivo sassone Il genitivo sassone ( s) è una costruzione che si usa per indicare possesso o relazioni tra le persone. Il nome del possessore precede quello della cosa posseduta. Bob s house is yellow. La casa di Bob è gialla. The architect s studio is in King Street. Lo studio dell architetto è in King Street. The children s playroom is near the kitchen. La stanza da gioco dei bambini è vicino alla cucina. Per le cose si usa the... of, come in italiano. The windows of the school are big. Le finestre della scuola sono grandi. Per gli animali si possono usare entrambe le forme: The cat s eyes are green. The eyes of the cat are green. Gli occhi del gatto sono verdi.

Se il possessore termina già in s, di solito si aggiunge solo l apostrofo ( ). Mr. Jones car is new. La macchina del sig. Jones è nuovo. The boys bedroom is upstairs. La camera dei ragazzi è di sopra. My parents friend is a teacher. L amico dei miei genitori è un insegnante. That is the Smiths house. Quella è la casa dei Smith. Se i possessori sono più di uno, di solito si aggiunge - s solo all ultimo dell elenco: Tom and Mary s cousins live in Milan. I cugini di Tom e Mary abitano a Milano.

E di Marco. Plural Whose books are these? Whose are these books? Di chi sono questi libri? They re her books. Sono i suoi libri (di lei). They re those boys. Sono di quei ragazzi.

Adverbs of frequency: Simple Present usually (di solito), sometimes (qualche volta), always (sempre) every day, every week, etc. (ogni giorno, ogni settimana, ecc.) once a month (una volta al mese), twice a month (due volte), three times a month (tre volte) never seldom occasionally often generally always rarely sometimes usually mai raramente qualche volta spesso di solito sempre

Position of Frequency Adverbs Gli avverbi di frequenza si trovano davanti al verbo principale ma dopo i verbi be, can (potere) e must (dovere). I am always on time. Sono sempre puntuale. I always eat pasta for dinner. Mangio sempre la pasta a cena. Quando ci sono 2 o più parti del verbo, va fra le prime 2: He is (not) always talking to his friends during the lesson. (Non)Sta sempre parlando ai suoi amici durante la lezione. We don t always listen to the teacher. Non sempre ascoltiamo l insegnante.

Never (mai) è già negativo e quindi il verbo è nella forma affermativa. La forma interrogativa di never è ever. Do you ever eat cheese for breakfast? Mangi mai il formaggio per colazione? No, I never eat cheese in the morning. No, non mangio mai formaggio la mattina. No, I don t usually eat cheese for breakfast. No, di solito non mangio formaggio per colazione. Hardly ever = quasi mai (negative) I hardly ever eat cheese for breakfast. Non mangio quasi mai il formaggio per colazione.

Due domande comuni per chiedere la frequenza di un azione sono: HOW OFTEN? quanto spesso...? e HOW MANY TIMES (A WEEK/MONTH/YEAR, etc.)...? Quante volte la settimana (mese/anno, ecc.) How often do you play tennis? Quanto spesso giochi a tennis? I usually play tennis on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Di solito gioco il lunedì, il mercoledì e il venerdì. How many times a week do you play tennis? Quante volte la settimana giochi a tennis? I usually play three times a week. Di solito gioco tre volte la settimana. NB: Per dire una volta si usa once. NOT She goes at the gym. We don t use to before home: go home NOT go to home 2 We use at and in for position. We use at + work, home, school, university. We use in + other places: a flat, an office, a room, etc. We can use in or at with some public places: a restaurant, the cinema, etc. On Saturdays he usually has lunch in / at a restaurant.
