One Item, Worn Three Ways As we slowly move away from summer and head into the fall season, it s best to be savvy-smart with our wardrobes. Right now, we should only buy what we really need. By getting more creative with what s already in our closets we ll save lots of money, take this time to decide what we really want (and need) for the upcoming season + we ll be forced to be creative with what we have! How good is that?! Get ready to challenge yourself! This week, you are going to make as many outfits as you can using my one item, three ways philosophy! Believe me, you have more outfits hiding inside your closet than you think! Let s get in our closets and get creative!
As you go through your wardrobe if you are missing a critical piece, write it down and put this list in your handbag so you ll be prepared when you do shop for fall. Research first. Only window shopping is allowed this week. That s right...no going inside the stores and purchasing. This week, you should spend a little time looking in the stores to get a feel for what s out there for fall. You are ONLY on a fact-finding mission this week (or as I like to refer to as research )! No buying, just seeing what you like...and don t like. You may need a new item or two for the upcoming season, but seeing new styles in the stores now, it can help you decide ahead of time what you truly want to add in. It also helps you to work with what you ve already got. Many of the basics you already have and some of your summer clothes can easily morph into the fall season. Maybe a new statement necklace or bright denims (like shown here) will be all you need to move your style forward! Window shop now and start planning your new fall wardrobe will save you money. Take inventory now. When your wardrobe is built upon great basics, you will find you can mix and match with ease. It becomes easier to find something to wear--every day! No more costly mistakes of buying something on impulse only to find you have NOTHING to wear with it! Take inventory of what basic items you need for fall now. DON T FORGET... MSP s style rule is: Don t buy something unless you can think of at least 3 different ways to wear it! Let me Style-wash you! I hope to get in your head my favorite mantra: Don t buy something unless you can wear at least three different ways! From now on when you shop, start thinking about each item s mix and match potential BEFORE purchasing it. ONE PAIR OF PURPLE PANTS, WORN 3 WAYS... OUTFIT #1 Sometimes the simplest outfits are the best. It s too hot here to wear lots of fussy jewelry. All I could handle was my favorite statement necklace. I get lots of compliments every time I wear it...
This necklace I purchased fairly recently at Target, $16.99 Everything else I ve had for several seasons.
OUTFIT #2 The other day I wore this outfit to meet my husband for lunch. After lunch we stopped by a local park to enjoy the wooded walking trails...
I love art, I really do. But sometimes I guess I just don t get it. Like this metal flower thingy...why did they create/build this artwork for a nature park? Anyone?
Pondering WHY it s here...
OUTFIT #3 Yes, these are still denims...however, the dark purple color makes them easier to dress up. I dressed up these denims with my pink pumps and my favorite statement necklace for a business meeting... I m actually wearing two necklaces...because you know what they say... two necklaces are better than one! LOL
ONE PAIR OF BRIGHT BLUE PANTS, WORN 3 WAYS... At first you might shy away from such bright bottoms. But, don t be afraid of color! At first they may seem scary because they do make a bolder statement than you might be use to. But not
only do they brighten up your wardrobe and your dispositon (I swear you will smile more) they will EXPAND YOUR OUTFIT POTENTIAL! OUTFIT #1 Easy-peasy summer style! I love blue and blue loves me back! Even though I m just shy of 6 ft. tall, I almost always wear a heeled shoe when wearing a skinny jean. Of course this casual look would work well also with a flat summer sandal...
OUTFIT #2 To dress up my bright blue denims I added a red sweater jacket! The pearls, black watch and black pumps also dress things up. I carried my dark purple bag because I feel like it goes with anything!
What do you think?
Of course it s too hot to wear this sweater in the afternoon heat! Are you feeling super-bold??? Wear these bright pants with another bold color! Then add a bright orange wedge to make more of a statement.
When the weather cools, I ll just add my denim jacket!
What would you wear these bright pants with? Do you have some of these pieces in your wardrobe? Get mixing and have fun creating your own outfits... It s fun and easy to create new looks! Too often I hear women say that these basics are too boring. I get it. Yes, they are pretty basic. However, they are the strength or foundation and what helps you create great outfits! You really do need to have them as the majority of your wardrobe...so that you too can create 3 or more outfits with every basic piece! It s your turn! Take a look at one basic piece in your wardrobe at a time. How can you use that ONE item and create at least three different looks with it? Share your photos/success stories on my Facebook page. I ll be posting photos of some of my own one item, 3 ways throughout next week! Please join me as we share how we can create multiple outfits using the same one item. This will be fun!
