VICTORIA RACING CLUB MEMBERS ENCLOSURE STYLE GUIDE

Welcome to our VRC Members Style Guide When dressing for the races, it s important to be racewear appropriate and ensure you are adhering to the VRC s Members dress code. In the grand tradition of horseracing, raceday style is always a key focus of the day. It is important to keep in mind that the races are a special day out and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, in particular, has strict guidelines for both ladies and gentlemen. Some things to keep in mind are: not to wear short hemlines, steer clear of spaghetti straps and wear appropriate footwear. Ultimately the races are about keeping within the codes, without letting them affect your personal style. Remember, it s all about translating current trends into great racewear pieces by incorporating unique millinery choices and accessories. Personally, I believe it s important to start with your clothing choice then add headwear, accessories, your bag and shoes. This tends to make the outfit as a whole more cohesive and will ensure you are raceday ready for the Melbourne Cup Carnival! VRC Members dress regulations VRC Members have a strong tradition of dressing elegantly, taking into consideration true racing style. We are proud of this history and therefore have strict dress regulations to maintain this high standard. Please be aware that the Club s dress standards will be strictly enforced in the Members Enclosure throughout the Racing Season. Notwithstanding the following dress standards, the VRC reserves the right to refuse entry to any person considered inappropriately attired. Gentlemen (including children over 12) Gentlemen are required to wear a suit of tailored slacks (tailored chinos acceptable), sports coat or blazer, plus tie and dress shoes. During the period between 1 December and 31 March jackets may be removed. Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal national dress of their country. Not acceptable Any form of the following footwear: joggers, sports shoes, track shoes, runners, sandals, thongs*, dilapidated footwear, scuffs, gumboots or slippers Shoes without socks Jeans, jodhpurs, shorts, untailored slacks or cargo pants Torn or ripped clothing, even if considered designer tears Open-neck shirts or shirts with no collar Parkas, duffle coats, windbreakers, tracksuit tops, golf and yachting weatherproofs, waist-length jackets including bomber jackets, denim jackets, casual or untailored leather jackets, anoraks and driza-bone jackets Safari suits, bright/fluorescent coloured suits, tracksuits Peaked caps, beanies Pullovers or cardigans (without a jacket), rugby tops and football guernseys, even if wearing a tie Cravats Strictly no denim Ladies (including children over 12) Ladies are expected to maintain a suitable standard in keeping with the dignity of the Members Enclosure. Younger children accompanied by an adult must be suitably attired. Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal national dress of their country. Footless tights acceptable if suitable dress worn over the top Parkas, duffle coats, windbreakers, tracksuit tops, golf and yachting weatherproofs, denim jackets, casual or untailored leather jackets, anoraks and driza-bone jackets Short jumpsuits/playsuits Strictly no denim *A shoe is considered a thong if it has two straps which connect in between the first and second toes.
