The results will be compiled and discussed with the class. Strongly 1 Somewhat 2 Neither Agree Nor 3 Agree Somewhat 4 Strongly Agree 5 1. Shirts and blouses usually look best when tucked into pants or skirts. 2. Straight-legged pants are more becoming than tapered pants and full-cut trousers. 3. Overscale clothing, which is big, loose, and roomy, is attractive only on tall, thin people. 4. Most people should pay more attention to proportion in their clothing. 5. Skirt length should be determined by what looks best on an individual, not what is currently in style. 6. Symmetrical clothing designs are usually more attractive than asymmetrical designs. 7. Padded shoulders are attractive only on people with narrow or sloping shoulders. 8. Tall people should never wear stripes. 9. Horizontal stripes tend to look better on males than on females. 10. Mixing different prints in an outfit doesn t look good. 11. The accessories that complete an outfit should be kept simple. 12. Big shirts look good on most people. 13. People with big bones should avoid delicate fabrics. 14. Crisp fabrics make people look less slender than soft fabrics do. 15. Small people should avoid large prints. 16. Large people should avoid small prints. 17. Shiny fabrics look best on slender people. 18. Females can wear some colors that males cannot. 19. How a garment looks on you is more important than how much you like it when choosing clothes. 20. Females care more about clothing designs than males do.

Fashion Design Solutions Directions: The teens described below could use some fashion design advice. Can you help? For each teen suggest a more flattering outfit or a modification of the one worn. Explain why your suggestions would be more attractive on each person. 1. Teen A This teen is a very tall, slender male. He wears a red and white running outfit with vertical stripes. 2. Teen B This teen is heavyset and has short legs. Her pants and matching shirt are made of soft, flowing fabric with a horizontally striped pattern in yellow and lavender. The gathered material falls from fitted yokes at her shoulders and hips. 3. Teen C This teen wears an off-the-shoulder black knit dress with a jacket in a blue, green, and brown print. She wears dangling earrings and several bracelets and rings along with three strands of pearls. Her shoes are black patent with straps, open toes and high heels. 4. Teen D Wide pants in a crisp white fabric are worn by Teen D, who has an average build. The baggy pants cover his shoes and drag on the ground. He also wears a white oversized shirt that droops in folds over his belt. 5. Teen E This teen is a tall, slender female. She wears a navy-blue dress with a tubular shape. It has a high neckline and hangs a mid-calf. She wears flat shoes and no accessories.
