Keith Alms of Hanes Knitwear believed there was a viable business in selling white underwear T-shirts to screenprinters. OUR HISTORY Established 1901 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, John Wesley Hanes lay the foundation of our success story as he designed the first Hanes T-shirt. He introduced a new two-piece underwear set - turning away from the Union Suit (one-piece man s underwear set) popular at that time. The invention of the American T-shirt!
