Middle School Dress Code All students at Whitefield Academy are expected to wear clothes that fit properly and are free from holes, tatters, frays, or excessive wear. All dress is to be tastefully modest, neat, and clean. While extensive direction regarding dress is given in this section, it s not possible to list every possible item and dress code issue; therefore, discretion is given to the Principal or his designee to decide whether dress is appropriate and consistent with Whitefield standards. Students who do not abide by the dress code will be subject to dress code discipline procedures (see the Student Behavior section of this handbook). All items below with style numbers are to be purchased at the Whitefield Campus Store. If an item is not found in the following lists, it is not part of the uniform and may not be worn. Uniform shirts and blouses must be tucked in. Level 3 Wednesday Wear: Wednesday Whitefield T-shirt Days (if approved by the Principal) Attire below the waist is the same for boys and girls as the weekday guidelines. Students may wear Whitefield Academy T-shirts and need not tuck them in. However, if not tucked in, shirts must be long enough so that when arms are lifted, skin remains covered. Form-fitting blouses and shirts are not permitted. Students who wear normal weekday attire above the waist must abide by normal weekday guidelines. Note: US only: Exception Ecuador jeans day for $2 Level 4 Jeans/Whitefield t-shirt/sweatshirt Level 5 On Campus Athletic/Other Event (e.g. field day, community service day, special events i.e. soccer game) Mid-thigh or longer shorts, t-shirt Level 6 Athletic practice/workout wear Shorts must reach the end of the thumb when arms are straightened at the side of the body. Sleeveless shirts must have straps at least 4 fingers in width and the armholes should be small enough to conceal under garments. Shirts should reach the top of the shorts at a minimum. Boys must wear a shirt at all times. Miscellaneous Dress Code Guidelines Items with the W from previous years have been phased out. They are no longer permitted. Long-sleeved oxford shirts must be worn with the sleeves down and buttoned and all but the top button fastened. When temperatures are low girls may wear solid white, gray, navy, black, or cream uniform color socks, tights, or hose. Neither sweat pants nor blue jeans are to be worn beneath girls skirts. Shorts along with leggings, jeggings (jeans that fit like tights), short shorts, or short skirts are not permitted even on free or casual dress days. No hats of any style are to be seen or worn once a student arrives on campus for school until after the student leaves campus unless temperatures are below freezing. Students are to keep their hair neat and in good taste. Hair styles must be within traditional parameters; that is, styles such as spiked hair, multi-colored or unusual-colored hair, patterns shaved into the hair and shaved heads are unacceptable.

Boy s hair should not impair vision and may not extend below the top of a regular shirt collar. Ponytails and rat-tails are not allowed. Boys must be cleanshaven. For reasons of safety, lace style shoes must be laced and secured, buckles buckled, and heel straps fastened. When heavy rain and/or standing water/snow is present, rain boots are permitted. Any time a student wears rain boots to school an extra pair of shoes (that are appropriate for the uniform dress that day) must be brought to school as well. Students will be asked to switch into shoes when in the teacher s judgment the ground is dry enough for normal shoes. All accessories (rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.) and makeup must be simple and not excessive or distracting. Large diameter hoop-style (larger than a quarter) or long dangling earrings may not be worn. Bright colored socks, stockings, or leggings, headbands or hair accessories are not permitted. Tattoos and visible body piercing, with the exception of earrings for girls, are not permitted. Whitefield Blue & Gold Days Blue & Gold Days occur on a selected Friday each month typically the first Friday of the month. On Blue & Gold Days, all students wear normal school uniform dress. An exception will be made for the top that students wear, as long as they fall within the parameters specified below. Whitefield teams wear their team tops provided the following: they aren t sleeveless; they are tucked in and therefore, long enough to be tucked in; the entire team wears the same top; and the team is in season. Blue and Gold days will consist of regular t-shirts that are blue or gold. Team Playoffs Any time a team makes the playoffs, the coach has the discretion to allow players of that team to dress as described for Blue & Gold Days above. The coach could have a team Blue and Gold Day on the day of each playoff game (Friday if the game is over the weekend). Only the team involved will be dressed in this manner; all other students on campus will be in normal school uniform dress. Teams in playoffs aren t required to have Blue & Gold Day dress on playoff game days it s completely up to the discretion of the coach. Inclement Weather Cold-Weather Boots Consistent with other dress code principles, the following guidelines are to be considered when wearing cold-weather boots: Boots are to be simple and not excessive or distracting. Boots are to be one of the following colors: brown, gray, black, navy, or tan. Boots are not permitted on chapel days. Discretion is given to the Principal or his designee to decide whether dress is appropriate and consistent with Whitefield standards.

Winter Jackets Non-Whitefield winter jackets and/or hats, to and from class, are permitted only when temperatures are below freezing. Casual Dress Days (when approved by the Principal) General Clothes must fit properly, be tastefully modest, neat, clean and free from holes, tatters, frays, or excessive wear. Undergarments should not be visible. Shoes must be worn at all times. For reasons of safety, lace style shoes must be laced and secured, buckles buckled, and heel straps fastened. Shower thongs and sandals are not permitted. Hats, caps, kerchiefs, and other head coverings are not to be worn indoors. Boys Waists of pants or shorts should be worn at the natural waistline. Girls Sleeveless tops, tank tops, and form-fitting blouses and shirts are not permitted. Shirts may be worn outside the skirt or pants and not tucked in. However, if not tucked in, shirts must be long enough so that when arms are lifted, skin remains covered. Necklines will not fall below the collarbone. If specifically allowed by the Principal, pants, jeans, and Capri pants may be worn so long as they are not form-fitting or noticeably oversized. Skirts and dresses may be no shorter than two inches above the knee. If shorts are worn, they can be no shorter than 2 above the knee and must not be form-fitting. Whitefield Spirit Days Every once in a while (likely 3 or 4 times per school year) a Whitefield Spirit Day will be declared. The dress for these days is the same as that for casual dress days, except that students are to wear school colors. At a minimum, a Whitefield Spirit Day will occur on each day of a pep rally. Level 5: Dress Code for School-Sponsored Events (Athletic and Other) These events include Whitefield Academy sports events, field day, community service day, special events, games, and all social activities sponsored by the school on and off campus. Clothes must fit properly, be tastefully modest, and be neat and clean. Undergarments should not be visible. For reasons of safety, shoes or sandals must be worn at all times. Waists of pants or shorts should be worn at the natural waistline. For girls, tank tops and bare midriff garments are not permitted. Mid-thigh or longer shorts, t-shirt
