«Down to Paradise» - Irina Lorez & Co In Down to Paradise three dancers Irina Lorez, Tonatiuh Diaz and Vincent Bozek cross paths over and over again in the same place and at the same time. Bound by the common goal of achieving happiness, they carry out a number of rituals that bear resemblance to an invocation, all the while observed by a musician and lighting technician. Paying no heed to social conventions, the three unsparingly divulge their inner states, while revealing their personal purification and liberation process in recurring sequences that have a goading, supportive and, at times, disruptive effect. Whether the three actually come closer to their happiness or rather presume to have attained an excessive notion of happiness is left to the audience s perception and interpretation. The viewers take part in the rituals, accompanied by Domenico Ferrari (music) and Daniel Schnüriger (lighting) and, depending on the dancers state, as instigators, sentinels or witnesses. Press review Contemporary dance with wit and strong emotions: Irina Lorez s Down to Paradise is a love triangle of a very special sort.... when the more brutish of the two men tenderly places his paw around the woman s neck. And the woman, who plummets in a free fall and, in an expansive swing,...comes back up again to and fro, up and down. This is momentary happiness: ecstatic and complete communion in fragile balance. Such scenes of expressive dance which allow the threesome to soar again and again are breathtakingly exhilarating in the new production...lending it bedazzling force and emotional intensity. It s humorous,... And at other times dramatic,... The evening is a tour de force that lives from three highly expressive characters in this unconventional love triangle and combines exemplary theatrical performance with high-quality dance. ( Neue Luzerner Zeitung, February 18, 2011)
