Chapter 6: Wigs Choosing And Caring For A Wig Chapter 7: Hair Extensions - The Fast Way To Change Your Look Chapter 8: To Weave Or Not To Weave: The Hair Extension Question

Chapter 1 Choosing A Wig Dispelling The Wig Myths Despite revolutionary changes in the wig industry and in the way wigs look and feel, many misconceptions about wigs still persist. Here are a few of the most common myths. MYTH #1: Wigs are hot, itchy and uncomfortable. Not true. Innovations in wig design have resulted in wigs that are lighter and more comfortable than ever before, with many of today's wigs weighing 2 oz. or less. Thinner wefts (fabric to which fibers are sewn) and lighter cap construction allows for greater air circulation. New lightweight wig fiber like WhisperLite is softer and finer, resulting in an even lighter look and feel. Other wig features provide additional comfort, like velvet bands for added softness. Many wigs are also available in sizes, which ensures that the wig will remain comfortably and securely in place. MYTH #2: Human hair wigs are better because they're more natural. One of the biggest misconceptions about wigs is that 100% human hair wigs will be more natural looking than synthetic wigs. Many women fear that "synthetic" wigs will look synthetic. This is not true Each type of wig has its own unique benefits. Synthetic wigs come pre-styled, and are the easiest to care for. For this reason, synthetic styles are most often recommended by stylists to clients undergoing treatment. Synthetic wigs also offer a variety of comfort features,

including non-slip linings, lightweight fiber and multiple sizes for a secure fit. Human hair wigs, while more versatile, are not pre-styled and therefore require more work. Unlike synthetic styles, these wigs can be heat-styled. They tend to weigh a bit more, and often require some trimming and customization. MYTH #3: Wigs can cause damage to the scalp and slow natural hair growth. Not true. Wearing a wig will not harm the scalp or inhibit regrowth. Many women choose to wear a wig because it can improve their mood and self-confidence. Other benefits of wig wearing include helping maintain body heat and preventing overexposure of sensitive skin to the elements. Chapter 2 Choosing A Wig That Fits Your Face Let the Face Shape Guide assist you in selecting a style that is perfect for you. Your facial shape is the starting point to choosing a style that flatters you. To find out the shape of your face, measure it with a tape measure and write them down: - Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones. - Measure across jawline from the widest point to the widest point. - Measure across forehead to the widest point. Generally the widest point will be about halfway between your eyebrows and hairline.

- Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom of chin. OVAL - many choices Slightly narrower at the jawline than at the temples, with a gently rounded hairline. Try: Most any hair shape works well. Short, medium and long lengths, plus styles swept away from face. ROUND - add height without adding extra width Full-looking face with round chin and hairline. Try: Chin-length or longer styles, cuts with fullness and height at the crown, layered top, off-center parts. SQUARE - avoid styles that add width at the jawline Angular jawline, same width as forehead. Try: Styles that lengthen the face and add fullness on top work best. Avoid styles that add width at the jawline. RECTANGULAR - avoid styles that add height on top Long and slender, about the same width at forehead and just below cheekbones. Try: Short to medium lengths, fullness at the sides, soft wispy bangs. HEART- add volume to chin Wider at the temples and hairline, narrowing to a small chin. Try: Chin-length or longer styles, side parts, swept forward layers around the upper face, wispy bangs. PEAR - add volume above jawline Narrow forehead, round chin Try: Frame the face with bangs and full layers on the sides and on top, with hair falling below the chin. There are thousands of wigs out there for all types of women. Popular name brand wigs include Paula Young, Star

Jones, Christine Jordan, Beauty in Motion, Especially Yours, NewHair, Naomi Sims, Gabor, and Diane Carroll. Chapter 3 Choosing A Wig - Find Your True Color Seasons of Beauty: Your skin tone is the starting point to choosing your hair color. First read the guide below and determine your skin tone by "Season": Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter; then choose your best hair colors. The goal is to find a shade that complements your skin tone and brings out your natural color. A mistake many women make is choosing a color that's too dark, when in doubt, go a shade lighter. Shop styles by the colors that complement your skin tone. SPRING Warm golden undertones and usually creamy white or peach. Straw-colored or strawberry red hair, freckles, rosy cheeks, and blue or green eyes. Try: all warm blondes, from bright wheat blonde to intense honey blonde, or light strands in golden blonde shades. Lighten hair rather than toning it down. SUMMER Pale and pink undertones. Usually natural blondes or brunettes with pale eyes. Try: cool and subdued hair colors. Blondes in silver tones, from platinum to ash blonde. Browns without gold effects, and reds should be the blue-red tones.

AUTUMN Golden undertones. Many redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes fall into this category. Try: blonde, red and brown tones which head for gold and copper. Even natural carrot red hair can go along fine with henna red. WINTER Blue or pink undertones. Pale white, yellowish-olive or dark. Brunettes, with deeply colored eyes, Asians and African Americans fall into this category. Try: browns which stress natural dark tones. When choosing reds, select rich tones that lean towards the blue scale, like burgundy or deep auburn. Another consideration women need to think about is skin tone. Here is a question I get asked all the time: Q: How can I tell if a color is right for my skin tone? A: The wrong hue can make you look tired or pale. Shop by the colors that complement your skin tone. First determine your skin tone, then discover a hair color to bring out the "you" in you.

Chapter 4 Full Lace Wigs and Lace Front Wigs The majority of celebrity women are wearing wigs but its very hard to tell. Yes, more than you know they are wearing wigs whether its for the natural look or for the easy maintenance. Who knows? Lace front wigs and Full Lace wigs have been the wigs of preference as of late. The full lace wigs look more natural than the front lace wigs. Most women are very creative with the styles of the wigs. The wigs are even styled into natural looking ponytails. This is possible because the hairs of the full lace wigs and front laced wigs are all individually tied to the lace. They look so natural, they truly give the appearance of hair follicles coming directly from the scalp. The hairs fall naturally and with this technique it creates the perfect natural look. Countless women favor the lace front wigs or the full lace wigs because the lace blends in with the scalp or skin toned stocking cap, either exposing the scalp or the color of the stocking cap. These wigs also create a natural looking hairline. Some of the wigs come with baby hair tied to the front. Affixing the full lace wig or lace front wig to the head is pretty effortless. Depending on your own hair length, you may or may not need to braid your hair underneath. It can be placed directly on the bald head (if your hair is braided underneath, a skin toned stocking cap is recommended). Either use a liquid adhesive, specifically for wigs, around the outside of the hairline, adhesive tape, or wig clips. This is

best applied by a stylist that specializes in lace front wig application. Most lace front wigs and full lace wigs are pricey since each hair is tied to the lace and then styled, in addition, wigs made with 100% human hair are more expensive. Remy hair is the most expensive. Chapter 5 Why Are Most Human Hair Wigs Made Of Asian Hair? At first sight the answer seems very obvious they are cheaper. And of course that is true. But in fact Eastern European hair is not that much more expensive the amount necessary to make a good wig is about 30-50 USD in Poland or Czech Republic. That is not a fortune if you are going to spend a few hundred dollars on a wig. So what is the catch? The problem is on the supply side. There are over 2 billion people in Asia and only 200 million in Eastern Europe. Most of people in Eastern Europe have no need to sell their hair for economic reasons. Moreover, I don t have to emphasize how rare it is in rich Western European countries to sell ones hair. That is what makes European hair rare and explains why local wig-makers purchase only the amount necessary for their own production. Outside of Eastern Europe, due to its rarity, the price of the best European hair (so called raw virgin hair) is skyrocketing. Hence 99% of human hair wigs are made of Asian hair. This hair is marked by such trade names as human hair or remy hair. If the producer or a sales person does not state directly that the hair is exclusively European, you can be 100% sure that you are dealing with Asian hair.

Asian hair is by nature very dark (black), very straight and thicker than European hair. Subject to a complicated process of a pigmentation removal, the hair looses its natural shine and resilience. Before it finally gets to you it will be dyed several times using synthetic chemical products, which no one would use to dye their own hair. Such a hair has a tendency to show a ting of a dark or red color. This is why it has to be dyed several times and go through a bleaching process. That way any color can be obtained, but hair structure gets damaged during the process. It is not pleasant to the touch anymore and even after as little as twenty weeks it will loose its shine and become dull. Another issue concerns the manner in which the hair is obtained. It is not planned from the start with the thought of creating wigs. Hair is cut in random hair salons. Part of the hair also comes from ritual ceremonies of cutting of the hair as a sign of entering into adulthood. Such hair in the fervor of the ceremony falls to the floor and is gathered from there and placed in a great pile. In the process the hair is turned against and opposite to each of its strands and not layered in the same direction. Although it may not seem so at first, this does change the fundamental significance in the quality of your wig. Every strand of hair has a coarse cuticle, which clings to the cuticle of the neighboring hair if they are layered in the opposite direction. In effect hair is twisting and intertwining into a hair clump so difficult to comb out. The only method for solving this problem is to completely remove the natural cuticle, which is then replaced with a silicon one that gives the hair its shine. It is a brutal and destructive process such a wig will maintain its sheen no longer than for a period of 4 to 12 weeks. After that time hair becomes dull and

unattractive, which then requires conditioning just like your natural hair. The best Asian hair comes from India and Pakistan. In reality, it is not much better than hair described above. The advantage is that this hair is less stiff and may have a natural tendency to from slight waves. For that reason, many producers claim that it has the same qualities as European hair, which is not true. If only there were more Eastern Europeans, life of wigmakers and their clients would be simpler Chapter 6 Wigs Choosing And Caring For A Wig Why do people wear wigs? There are several reasons and the most relevant reason is to hide hair loss and show a stylish, fashionable and aesthetic profile. Wigs are mostly made of human hair or synthetic hair. Wig is a short form for the 17th century English word periwig. Actors wear wigs to get the nearest resemblance to the character they portray. Wigs have been used since ancient times. Egyptians used wigs to protect their clean shaven head from the sun. Romans, Greeks, Phoenicians and Assyrians also used wigs for style and to cover their head. Wigs contain the cap which is its base, where the hair is attached. Caps are available in different types and hair is stuck to the cap using numerous different techniques. Hair is attached in wefts on the wig. Hair strings doubled over and closely sewn together in longer strands is the process by which wigs are made.

Wigs made from human hair have a very natural look. Depending upon the personal tastes, the human hair wigs can be colored, styled, cut or permed. These wigs need lot of care and they are more expensive. Similar to human hair, the wigs are also to be cleaned with shampoo, dried, and conditioned to preserve its natural look and feel. People who do not have the time or inclination to do these chores, have the option of a synthetic blend wig resembling human hair. Most of the good quality synthetic wigs are identical to human hair wigs. They are not very expensive and need very little care and maintenance. The synthetic wig retains the curl, wave, texture and volume due to the memory of the monofilament fiber hair. They get damaged when hair dryers, curling irons or hot rollers are used to get a wave. What should be the correct size of the wig? Most of the wigs fit a head circumference of 21.5 inches to 22.5 inches. The wig should be worn on the natural hairline, nearly four fingers above the eyebrows. In the back, pull down the wig to the natural hairline. Using the elastic tab and Velcro provided in the back, adjust the wig to get a comfortable and secure fit. Nearly 10 to 30 percent of excess hair is provided in most wigs so it is advisable to avail the services of a professional hair stylist to fine tune the wig so that it suits your features and gives a stylish look. The wigs should be stored on a wig stand or a mannequin when it is not used so that the shape is properly preserved. Perspiration, environment and lifestyle are some of the factors to be taken into account when deciding the frequency of cleaning the wig. Normally it is advisable to clean the wig

after a fortnights use. Strictly follow the guidelines given by the manufacturer, for cleaning and conditioning the wig. There are special styling accessories such as conditioners, hair sprays and shampoos to keep the wig clean. Cool water should be used to rinse the wig after the conditioning process. Leave the wig to dry naturally and avoid scrubbing the wig. Chapter 7 Hair Extensions - The Fast Way To Change Your Look Some people who weren't blessed with the hair of their choice are actually envious of those people who have the luxury of being able to wear their hair long and keep it that way in spite of whatever hassles that long hair may bring to a person. From taking a longer time in taking a bath, as well as having to deal with all sorts of monthly hair treatments just to keep that long hair in tip, top, shape. Fortunately, for those who are at times in the mood for longer hair, there are actually hair extensions that are proven to be a safe and fast way for people to be able to have longer hair. Through hair extensions, people will be able to have the length of hair that they want, whatever style they want and their hair can be long and for only several days (which means people who have hair extensions need not to worry about the hair extensions upkeep in the long run). Hair extensions are actually great for people who are thinking of growing out their hair into a long, luxurious style from a short, layered style hair cut. Have you even noticed that a lot of celebrities nowadays tend to sometimes have longer hair then shorter hair the next?

Well, it certainly is not a work of magic but a breakthrough in the field of both beauty and fashion wherein top hairstylists nowadays are doing these hair extensions on people who do not have the patience nor time to grow their hair long. When it comes to growing one's hair, there are certainly a lot of things that a person needs to do in order to keep it looking beautiful. Of course, when it comes to growing one's hair, it is highly important that you actually maintain it in a good condition otherwise long hair will just make you look untidy. Through hair extensions, having long hair is really a breeze. You just come in the salon and have it made and after a few hours, you have perfectly nice long hair. Hair extensions are actually highly in demand at the salons nowadays wherein a lot of their clients all want to have some hair extensions added to their natural mane in order to look a little more girly, sophisticated and even a bit sexy. For most people who come to the salons for a hair extension treatment, they usually opt to have the human hair extensions in order to achieve a natural look as compared to the synthetic type of hair extensions that actually has a different texture. And since human hair extensions are highly in demand nowadays, be prepared to shell out a little more cash for these human hair extensions, because human hair extensions can actually set you back around $1,000. If you are worried about having to spend the whole day at the salon while having your hair extension treatment, then you really need not worry about a thing since having a hair extension treatment is actually a quick and easy method wherein you will end up with a wonderfully dramatic fix for your hair and the hair extensions can actually last you for three to five full months (but of course, you need to go a little easy when you brush, style or wash your hair).

Another popular option when it comes to having hair extensions, is to have the synthetic type of hair extensions which is the less expensive choice as compared to the human hair extensions and contrary to what other people might say, synthetic hair extensions actually looks just as natural as the human hair extensions that are extremely pricey, but the longevity of the synthetic hair is not the same. But how are the hair extensions actually applied to your natural hair anyway? Well, the hair extension is actually placed on a small part of your hair. Your hair will be braided together so that the hair extension will have something to hold on to. Next, after the braiding session of the hair extension treatment comes the bonding session, which is another method, wherein a bonding solution for your hair extension is applied then heat will then be applied to the treated area which will secure the hair extensions to your natural hair. But as time goes on, different methods are created every day. From the sewn-in, bonded, quick-weaves, fusion and even clip-ins, achieving the style you want has never been so easy Chapter 8 To Weave Or Not To Weave: The Hair Extension Question There is no doubt that long, flowing hair is in, but many people who desire to have long hair are unable to achieve the right look no matter how long they let their hair grow. For this reason, many turn to hair extensions to get that look they've always dreamed of. Whether their hair is sparse and thin or ethnic and curly, many have found that they can have long hair through hair extension.

There are two major types of hair extension: strands and wefts. Strands use techniques that apply 20 to 50 strands of synthetic or natural hair to your own hair by weaving, heat fusing, gluing, clamping, or using waxes and polymers. Hair extension wefts, on the other hand, use wefts of hair that are sewn into a small braid of your own hair that has been put across your scalp for the purpose of hair extension. With both types of hair extension you can achieve dramatic results. You can thicken and lengthen your hair instantly. And the hair extensions can be matched up perfectly to your own hair. With hair extensions, you shampoo, style and do everything that you would normally do to your own hair. If you want to change colors, you can. If you want to perm, you can. (There may be some restrictions with certain types of synthetic hair extension). As with all salon services, there is some upkeep associated with hair extensions. The cost and frequency of your upkeep appointments will depend largely on what type of extensions that you purchase. The amount of damage to your natural hair and longevity of your hair extension will also be determined by which type of hair extensions you choose. " Strands. This type of hair extension causes the most damage to your natural hair because the technique always involves attaching the extensions to your natural hair shaft by chemical means. As you can imagine by the name of some of the application methods used such as heat fusing and gluing, the damage can be substantial. While the strand hair extension does not cost as much as other procedures, there is a good deal of upkeep. These hair extensions normally have to be completely re-done every few months. And because these types of extensions cause so much damage to your hair shaft, they are not a good option for

allowing your natural hair to grow out while you wear the extensions. " Wefts. Weft hair extensions are by far the best types of hair extensions. The weft itself looks like a curtain of hair attached together at the top and free flowing at the bottom. These hair extensions are attached to your head by sewing them into a tiny braid made out of your own hair. The effects achieved with this technique are very natural and no one can see the braids or wefts of hair unless you show them. Since hair growth will push your braids off of your scalp, in order to keep this type of hair extension looking fresh, you need to return to your stylist every 6 to 8 weeks to have your wefts taken out and put back in close against your scalp. So, if you always wanted long hair but have never been able to accomplish it, maybe hair extensions are just what you need. But be sure to weigh all of your options and the costs carefully before deciding to get hair extensions. So now go be beautiful on purpose Stay Beautiful Like Us On Facebook: http://bit.ly/justmyhairfb
