OUR COMPANY Dear Valued Customer, Thirty years ago the Regulations regarding the manufacturing, packaging and selling of Dangerous Goods were almost nonexistent. It was common to see filled wine bottles with the word TURPS written in ink down the side. As the Regulations began to tighten, TMK Packers Ltd was established in 1979 to provide retailers with products which were compliant, safe and competitively priced. It has been the same ever since. Starting with just three products - Turpentine, Methylated Spirits, and Kerosene (TMK), we now offer over 40 chemicals and solvents from Acetone to Xylene, packed in sizes from 250ml to 1000 litres. As we have bulk handling and storage facilities in Auckland, we are also able to contract pack and provide solvent blending services. I well remember supplying our first order - 10 x 20 litre Methylated Spirits to Tingeys in Newmarket over 30 years ago. We now have over 2000 customers ranging from smaller end users to large manufactures and nationwide retail chains. We supply supermarkets, hardware stores, print supply groups, printers, retail, schools and both light and heavy industrial businesses throughout New Zealand. Apart from using the services of a local agent in the Waikato a few years ago, TMK has never employed sales staff. Instead we have relied on competitive pricing, impeccable service, a faster delivery time and word of mouth advertising to promote our products and company. INTRODUCING: AMAZING HASTE Amazing Haste is the brand name for the products that TMK has developed over a period of time. It gives a wide range of chemicals a uniformed name and label for display. Following the success of the original Amazing Haste Range, other products have been added due to customer demand and as such this range is constantly under review. The following is a sample of the Amazing Haste Range. TURPS METHS KERO MINERAL TURPENTINE: TURPS - Widely used multi-purpose solvent for thinning oil based paint, cleaning brushes and paint spills. Removes oils, tar and grease from metal and some plastic surfaces. Paint and Resin Manufacture: Used as paint thinner of oil based paint. A component in thinner formulations for both paint and varnish coatings and is also used extensively by painters on the job where solvent based coatings are being applied. Widely used in the manufacture of alkyd resin based coatings particularly in industrial and exterior finishes due to high odour. Miscellaneous: Household cleaning and domestic herbicide capable of killing almost all unwanted growth. Solvent carrier in the manufacture of shoe and furniture polishes, liniments and ink. A rubber solvent and reclaiming agent. METHYLATED SPIRITS: METHS - Widely used Denatured Alcohol. Methylated Spirits is used in all applications requiring a coloured industrial grade alcohol which can tolerate a small amount of water. A concentration of >60% Ethanol is antibacterial. Uses: Cleans surfaces & floors, sterilising medical and dental instruments and domestic cleaning. Glass cleaner - Dilute 1:5 with water. Removes vivid/ink from some painted surfaces. Clean burning BBQ starter fuel and fuel for some camping equipment. Used in the manufacture of cleaning compounds. MS95WP should be used for similar applications, where an uncoloured, industrial grade alcohol is required. KEROSENE: KERO - General Purpose Degreasing and Cleaning Solvent. (Also known as Paraffin/Lamp oil/heating fuel). Kerosene s high energy value and clean burning properties make this product ideal for home heaters, stoves, lamps, refrigeration units & vaporisation burners. Can remove candle wax. A workshop/ general purpose degreaser, can clean motorcycle chains of old lubricant. Can remove old glue/stickers from untinted glass/painted surfaces. Paint manufacture: Used in paint formulations requiring a slow evaporating, aliphatic solvent. Insecticide Sprays: As a base solvent and dilutant in insecticide sprays. 500ml 1l 2l 4l 20l 60l 208l
PRODUCT GUIDE: ALPHABETICAL ACETONE: A colourless clear, highly volatile liquid with high solvency and miscible in water. Uses: Widely Used Cleanup Solvent for lacquers, varnishes, epoxies, glues, fibreglass & adhesives. As a heavy-duty degreaser, it is useful in the preparation of metal prior to painting. A clean-up solvent in the manufacture of fibreglass boats, campers, automotive panelling. Can remove superglue before hardening. It is used by drycleaners in spotting solutions. Used in the compounding of fast drying printing inks. Paint and Resins: Thinner for polyester resins, fibreglass resin, vinyl, adhesives and some paints. A component of polyurethane and epoxy resins. Adhesives: Used in a range of adhesive raw materials as fast evaporation and high solvency enables bonds to develop strength quickly. Cosmetics: Active ingredient in nail polish and nail polish remover formulations. Electronics Industry: Used as a cleaning dewatering solvent for electronic components in between manufacturing steps. AIR REPAIR: A natural deodorizer, Air Repair is not a masking agent. It can be used anywhere there is an odour problem - home, car, caravan or public transport. It removes odours including cooking smells, pet smells, smoking and rubbish smells. Can be sprayed into the air or added to liquid waste. Unlike masking agents, Air Repair does not blow away in the wind. Being positively charged, it will seek out target molecules and bond to them resulting in a chemical reaction forming a non-volatile organic salt. If an Air Repair molecule does not find a target, it will attach itself to a negatively charged surface and wait for an odorous molecule. As with all gases, the odorous molecules are constantly moving and given time, will come into contact with an Air Repair molecule and be destroyed. BRUSH & ROLLER CLEANER: Cleans Brushes & Rollers of paints, varnishes, lacquers & grease. Makes new brushes from old. Can be used on untinted glass and to remove overspray. Cleans up paint spills. For paint removal on what appears to be ruined clothes (i.e. from kindergarten). Used for spot cleaning of graffiti removal. Tar remover. Can be used as an alternative to the products Superdesolvent or Supersolvent. Directions: Remove excess paint and water from brush/roller, work in Amazing Haste Brush & Roller Cleaner then rinse with water. Hardened brushes/rollers may need longer soaking and working. An overnight soaking will cure the meanest brush/roller. CITRONELLA OIL: Clear orange fuel for outdoor Lamps, Flares and Torches. Deters mosquitoes and other insects but its pleasant citronella odour makes it ideal for BBQ and picnic type environments. Contains 1% Java Citronella oil and 99% high grade liquid lamp oil hydrocarbon. Suitable for outside use only. Note: Keep wick short to stop excess smoke when burning. CLOUDY AMMONIA: An old-fashioned, tough multi-purpose cleaner. Uses: Removes floor polish, grease & grime. Suitable for floors, tiles, ovens, stainless steel, whiteware, windows, septic tank systems, showers and paintwork. Can be added to laundry for a brighter wash, but do not use on colourfast items. Always read instructions for appropriate dilution rates. Note - Has a strong ammonia smell requiring adequate ventilation. WARNING - Never mix ammonia with bleach. Highly toxic fumes can form. Recommended by environmental groups as a domestic cleaner.
CREOSOTE: A black viscous liquid with a strong odour used for surface coating of poles, posts, landscaping and fencing. For staining and protecting outdoor above ground timber against rot and fungi, including telephone poles, piles, tiles, timber fencing, battens, timber stables, sheds, stock pens, trellis and landscaping. Can be used to paint fireplaces in certain environments. Can be used as a paint alternative on wood surfaces. Directions: Apply liberally to dry timber surfaces by brush or soaking. May be diluted with Amazing Haste Turps or diesel. Clean equipment with turps. FUELITE: Aliphatic Hydrocarbon - Evaporates rapidly. A clean burning fuel used for camp stoves, blow lamps, mining lamps & cigarette lighter fluid. Removes adhesives. Cleans grease & oil off metal surfaces. Brake cleaner. Used in metal degreasing of engines & machinery. Adhesives: For many adhesive formulations where quick evaporation rates are desired. It is also commonly used as a substitute for hexane where a lower cost solvent is required with comparable solvency and volatility characteristics. Rubber Industry: Fuelite is used in tyre building adhesives and as an activator of uncured rubber surfaces in the tyre building process. Surface Coatings Industry: Fuelite may be used in fast drying alkyd paints such as road-marking paints. It is used in combination with oxygenated solvents for nitrocellulose lacquer formulations and thinners, as a partial or total replacement for toluene. Textile Industry: Used in the preparation of fast drying printing inks for textiles. GUM TURPENTINE: Turpentine Oil, Pure Turpentine, Wood Turpentine, Vegetable Turpentine. Unexcelled thinner of oil based paints & varnishes. Used extensively by artists as a painting medium, oil paint thinner and brush wash. Cleanup solvent. Solvent used in production of polishes, lacquers, waxes, medicines, perfumes & fragrant chemical compounds. Used as a solvent mixed with beeswax or with carnauba wax, to make fine furniture wax for use as a protective coating over oiled wood finishes (e.g. lemon oil). Used to dissolve natural resins. I.P.A. ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL: Rubbing Alcohol / Surgical Spirit. Multi purpose cleaner for glass, plastics and electronics. Removes shoe polish, wax & permanent ink from most surfaces. Cleans makeup brushes. Sterilizes household surfaces including phones, switches, doorknobs and office & medical equipment. Efficient glass cleaner - 35% to 50% IPA in water. Rubbing alcohol - Dilute 7 parts IPA with 3 parts water. Used where Methylated Spirits is too harsh on plastics. Electronics: Due to its rapid evaporation, cleans electronics including PC boards, some computer/lcd monitors, CDs/DVDs, printed circuit boards, connectors & contacts, lenses of lasers, tape heads & guitar strings. Used to clean electronics or other devices that become damaged when wet. Surface Coatings: IPA imparts good blush resistance in nitrocellulose lacquers. IPA is often substituted for ethanol in certain lacquer formulations without causing any appreciable change in product viscosity. IPA has excellent solvency for many resins and can improve resin solvent power for nitrocellulose significantly. Antifreeze: Separates water from gasoline and possible freezing in cold regions may be prevented by the addition of small amounts of IPA. It is a convenient agent to feed into air and gasoline lines to prevent winter icing and is also a useful coolant in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Cosmetics: Widely used in the manufacture of cosmetics, perfumes and liquid soap formulations. Denaturant free and quite mild on the skin makes it a desired component in many body lotions, creams, deodorants and perfumes. Other Uses: Preservative, a fuel in some engines, a gas dryer fuel additive, insecticide manufacture, dehydrating agent, adhesives, inks wetting agent. LAMP OIL:(FP 60-90). Smokeless Kerosene/Paraffin. A clean burning, clear, odourless liquid fuel for kerosene burning lamps, flares and torches. Note: Keep wick short to stop excess smoke. Miscellaneous Uses: A metal degreasing solvent. Used in the manufacture of wax polishes and insecticide sprays, as a polymerisation medium for polypropylene and an adhesive solvent in prepasted wallpaper. LAMP OIL / PARAFFIN 3440: A clean burning, clear, odourless liquid fuel for lamps. It is free of aromatic content. Note: Keep wick short to stop excess smoke. Surface Coatings: Widely used in interior paint formulations where low solvent volatility and odour are required. Aerosol Products: Ideal for use as a solvent carrier in aerosol formulations especially for household products due to low odour and toxicity. Miscellaneous: Making wax polishes, in insecticide sprays, as metal degreasing solvent, as a polymerisation medium for polypropylene and an adhesive solvent in pre-pasted wallpaper. LINSEED OIL BOILED: A penetrating surface sealer that water proofs and protects. The addition of certain solvents causes it to dry more quickly than Raw Linseed Oil. This makes it a better product for indoor furniture and items that need a faster drying time. A 40% Amazing Haste Boiled Linseed Oil, 60% Amazing Haste Mineral Turpentine blend wiped over indoor wooden furniture can enhance and improve appearance. Restores and enhances natural wood. Polishes, varnishes and lubricates. Floor surfacing, tool handles, outdoor furniture and decks. Used in oil paints. LINSEED OIL RAW: Originates from the flax seed and is packaged with no additional additives or preservatives. Slow drying, taking weeks to fully cure. Restores and enhances external timber. A 50/50 blend of Amazing Haste Raw Linseed Oil and Amazing Haste Mineral Turpentine delays weathering of outdoor furniture. Miscellaneous: Treatment for cricket bats, putty manufacture, wood preservation, sealants, caulking compounds, brake linings, linoleum, textiles, and foundry products. Used in leather treatment products, polishes and animal care products. METHANOL: Wood Alcohol, Methyl Alcohol. Methanol is a clear, colourless, primary alcohol which is completely miscible with water. Methanol burns with a non luminous bluish flame. Uses: Paint & resin manufacture precursor in manufacture of Urea Formaldehyde and Phenol Formaldehyde resins. Used in lacquer and thinner formulations where good solvency and high volatility are desired. Rubber industry solvent, aircraft fuel, motor racing fuel not to be used in unmodified engines, printing inks, adhesives, antifreeze, in pharmaceutical manufacture, denaturant for ethanol and in synthetic gasoline manufacture.
M.E.K. METHYL ETHYL KETONE: Surface Coatings: Widely employed in the manufacture of paints, lacquers, varnishes and thinners. MEK is particularly effective in lacquer formulations of high solid content and low viscosity and in the manufacture of coatings which require a solvent with a relatively fast evaporation rate. Cleaning and Degreasing Solvent: MEK is an excellent cleaning agent, capable of removing almost all oil fat or grease stains. Adhesives: MEK is frequently used as a solvent in the blending and compounding of adhesives. It is also used in the manufacture of synthetic cements. Miscellaneous: Synthetic leather manufacture, electronics magnetic media, rubber products, plastics, printing inks. METHS HMS MS95WP ETHANOL: Used where an uncoloured, industrial grade hydrous alcohol is required. Completely miscible with water and tolerates a small water content. It is used as a solvent for both synthetic and natural resins, printing inks and in the manufacture of lacquers, varnishes and cleaning compounds. Its mild odour makes it ideal for use in the manufacture of perfumes, hair products and pharmaceuticals. Cleans surfaces & glass, sterilises medical and dental instruments and domestic cleaning. A concentration of >60% Ethanol is antibacterial. As it is denatured with a bittering agent and not Methanol or TBA, MS95WP is an ideal fuel for Ecosmart Ethanol Fires & Blubox Fireplaces. METHS SDA AMS M99WP ETHANOL: Absolute grade alcohol. Used where an uncoloured, industrial grade anhydrous alcohol is required. Used in applications where the presence of water is undesirable. Denatured with Methanol. Uses: Solvent for manufacture of resins, printing inks, cleaning compounds, aerosols, adhesives, surface coatings, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and healthcare & photographic emulsions. A motor and heating fuel, a biological preservative, insecticide, disinfectant and in liquid detergents and soaps. MONOPROPYLENE GLYCOL: USP Food Grade. It is a clear, colourless, viscous, odourless liquid. It is miscible with water in any ratio and highly soluble in most organic solvents. Uses: A moisturiser in medicines, hand sanitisers and antibacterial lotions. In cosmetics as a carrier in fragrance oils and a main ingredient in deodorants. Solvent in mixing photographic chemicals, such as film developers. Cooling agent for beer/ wine glycol jacketed fermentation tanks and hoses. Used in food, pharmaceutical and tobacco products, as an anti freeze and coolant and in smoke machines. MOSS & MOULD KILLER CONCENTRATE: Uses: A concentrated outdoor cleaner for moss, mould & mildew. Restores to a clean new appearance. Improves safety. Suitable for: Boats, bricks, caravans, concrete, decks, driveways, eaves, fences, garden furniture, greenhouses, guttering, houses, letterboxes, masonry, paint, pathways, patios, pavers, railway sleepers, rocks, roofs, steps, tiles, trellis and wood. Spray or brush on and walk away. Slow release product that takes 1-14 days to work. Why pay more? Equivalent to well known brands at a fraction of the price. MOULD OIL TMKBB: Uses: Specialized concrete mould release oil developed to meet the requirements of concrete manufacture. Used to coat moulds prior to the introduction of concrete for easy release and to prevent concrete deposits adhering to the mould. Can also prevent rusting of steel moulds during storage. Maybe diluted with solvent for use in pipes with a narrower diameter. NB Requires adequate drying time for the mould oil to dry to a protective film prior to concrete being introduced. PAINT STRIPPER: An aggressive, fast acting, heavy duty, gel type paint stripper. Suitable for stripping metal surfaces, wooden furniture, doors, exteriors, concrete floors, road markings, anti-fouling of boat hulls, automotive panels, brush cleaning. Directions: Open cautiously to release pressure. Apply with airless spray gun or old brush. Wait until paint has loosened, remove with strong jet or water if possible. Alternatively use scraper and wrap waste in newspaper. Wipe stripped surface with Amazing Haste Turps soaked rag prior to painting. PEG SOLVENT 100: A clear, colourless, medium cut, aromatic solvent with a moderate evaporation rate. It can be used as both the solvent and diluent in stoving enamels, paints, lacquers and varnishes. It is mostly used in coatings and stoving enamels designed for the automotive and metal industry, where a durable high gloss finish is desirable. It is also used as a base solvent in herbicide and insecticide formulations. PEG SOLVENT 150: A clear, colourless, liquid with a high aromatic content and a relatively low volatility. High flash point makes it suitable for use as a solvent carrier. Uses: Printing Inks Used in the manufacture of both screen and lithographic printing inks. Insecticide. Paints & Resins Peg 150 is a retarder of the highest solvent power and promotes secondary flow in high-gloss baking enamels and similar products. Its slow evaporation rate causes a levelling out of the components in resinous coatings which gives a glass like finish. Also used in force dried paints and as a solvent carrier in chlorinated rubber and swimming pool paints. SPIRITS OF SALT / HYDROCHLORIC ACID 33%: A highly corrosive, strong mineral acid. Has major industrial uses and is a common laboratory reagent. Used for pickling of steel to remove rust or iron oxide scale from iron/steel. Household uses: Brick Cleaning, Concrete Cleaning and Surface Rust Removal. Brick Cleaning 1 part Acid : 25 parts water. Exposing Aggregate 1 part Acid : 16 parts water. Overlaying of Old concrete 1 part Acid : 8 parts water. THINNERS 2 WAY LACQUER: Highly aromatic, clear, colourless Lacquer Thinner. Used for: Paints, primers, top coat, clear coat, acrylic lacquers and a high grade general purpose thinner for most quality auto paints. Extensively used in the automotive industry. Suitable for general clean up and when a high quality/ high aromatic gun wash is required. Directions: Use in accordance with the instructions of the product being thinned.
TOLUOL / TOLULENE: Used where the highest solvent power and volatility are required. Colourless water insoluble aromatic hydrocarbon. Surface Coatings: In the manufacture of synthetic resins and polyurethane. It is widely used in both automotive and furniture lacquers, brush enamels and marine paints. Toluol is used in thinner formulations and in brush cleaning products. Adhesives: Toluols strong solvent power makes it ideal for use in the manufacture of adhesives and allied products. It is used in rubber-gum adhesives, rubber cements and pressure sensitive tapes. Cement for fine polystyrene kits. Racing Fuel Additive: Toluol may be used to increase gasoline octane number and as a fuel additive carrier. In general when Toluol is added to gasoline in only relatively small amounts, the octane number of the fuel increases substantially. Toluol should not be used in an unmodified vehicle as overheating and consequent engine damage is likely. Miscellaneous: Manufacture of dyes, medicines, perfumes, as a raw material in chemical synthesis, explosives manufacture, synthetic leather, ink manufacture. DEGREASER WAX & GREASE REMOVER: PEG 600 (Non emulsifying degreaser). A clear, colourless solvent based wax and grease remover. An intermediate aromatic hydrocarbon solvent. It is readily miscible with most organic solvents but has negligible water solubility. Uses: Removes wax, grease & tar from metal surfaces (i.e. hubcaps / Mag wheels). Washing down engines. Helps remove grease from concrete. Can remove F2 glues. Ideal for pre-paint preparation. Used in paint, resin, lacquer and other surface coating manufacture, particularly where a fast drying medium aromatic is required. WHITE SPIRITS (LAWS) - DRYCLEANER: Able to dissolve a wide range of materials and has a relatively slow evaporation rate. It will not discolour or injure most fabrics or dye-stuffs, is non-corrosive and will not deteriorate in storage. Its low odour means that garments cleaned in White Spirits do not retain any objectionable odours. Cleaning: Often used as a degreasing solvent, suitable for cleaning both leather and metal surfaces. Wax Polishes: A solvent carrier for oil soluble waxes, resins & gums, in the manufacture of furniture, floor and automotive wax based pastes and cream polishes. Paints, Varnishes & Enamels: A diluent for certain synthetic type resins, predominantly in industrial finishes. White Spirits gives excellent brushing, flowing and levelling properties to the film. Textile Printing: In the preparation of printing inks for textiles, White Spirits offers superior safety to faster drying solvents with lower flash points. Timber Preservation: A solvent carrier for wood preservatives in timber treatment plants. Printing: A blanket wash, diluent for printing inks and as a general purpose solvent for cleaning typefaces. Leather Manufacture: An effective degreasing solvent for skins prior to tanning. XYLOL / XYLENE: Clear colourless, sweet smelling, aromatic hydrocarbon. Paint and Resin Manufacture: Xylol is mainly used in making surface coatings where a slower evaporation rate than Toluol and comparable solvency power are important features. It is used in the formulation of automotive enamels and lacquers, baking enamels, furniture lacquers, marine paints and other protective coatings. Xylol is used in making alkyd resins. Insecticides and Pesticides: Carrier in making many chemical insecticides. Printing Inks: The high solvency properties of Xylol make it suitable for use in printing inks.
