KLMS HAIRSPRAY COSTUME INFORMATION As mentioned in your parent contract and expectations form, you will be providing your own costume for this show. This is the largest cast and crew ever to be in a KLMS musical production, so there is no possible way our small budget can cover costumes for that many cast and crew. Therefore, it is very important for you to read through this handout, clearly understand what costume you are looking for and have it physically here at rehearsal on Friday, March 31. You will NOT be allowed to rehearse at any rehearsal after March 31 unless your costume or costumes is/are turned in. Please note: If you are unable to provide a costume due to financial circumstances, please email, call or send a note to Ms.Schneider and arrangements will be made. This is only for those who truly need it. This show is set in the early 60 s when fashion was starting to progress to a more hippie look. However, WE DO NOT WANT HIPPY COSTUMES! The costumes worn should look more traditional 60 s than fashion-forward 60 s. Please find your character or character group below and look at the examples we have provided. You may look for you costume in many different places including thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army, Amazon.Com or Costume websites. If you are a lead in the show, you MUST get approval on your costume from the directors before purchasing. Please see Ms.Schneider and she will explain further. If you are Corny Collins or one of the council members, your costume has been chosen and you will need to order it off Amazon.com. Please see Ms.Schneider for details.
ENSEMBLE MEMBERS: You can google 1960 s fashion for teens to get some good ideas..just stay away from the hippy look. Here are some examples of what you might wear for your costume keep in mind that the length of skirts and dresses need to meet school dress code and you must wear spandex or shorts underneath.

CORNY COLLINS: Please find something like this You will need 2 jackets...one should be very showy with either patterns or something super flashy and the second jacket should be shiny and gold (sequined or metallic or something. A polka dot suit jacket would be awesome for the beginning if possible! It would match the council members outfits. I like the bowtie instead of a tie.
