DigniLife Unique scalp cooling retain hair and quality of life during chemotherapy www.sysmex.co.uk
The cancer diagnosis is a shock. Then the therapy leaves its imprint. You can help your patients minimise the visible signs. Systemic cancer therapy brings with it severe side effects such as nausea, vomiting or dyshaemopoiesis, which are currently alleviated to a great extent by effective concomitant therapies. The idea of scalp cooling for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced hair loss is not new. The principle is based on two modes of action, presented in outline in the flowchart below. However, chemotherapy-induced alopecia is generally expected as this is seen as an unavoidable side-effect. Patient surveys* however, show that in hindsight, hair loss is the worst accompanying symptom of chemotherapy for many patients. Reduced blood flow (perfusion) Reduced temperature (cooling the scalp) Reduced active substance delivery and activity Reduced metabolic rate (metabolism) Hair loss/ alopecia 10 79 Survival of the hair cells Nausea Reduced physical capacity, fatigue Damage to internal organs 60 (e.g. liver, kidneys) 33 0 25 50 75 100 Patients often lose their sense of self being due to alopecia, with lasting effects not only during chemotherapy, but sometimes even after the hair has grown back and this is psychologically challenging for many patients. 30 42 Pre-chemotherapy 54 60 Post-chemotherapy The use of ice packs and gel caps were often unpleasant for patients, without actually achieving the desired effect. They were also impractical and involved a great deal of staff input. For about 10 years now we have been developing the first automated systems to ensure evenly distributed scalp cooling. With DigniLife we now offer the latest generation in customised cooling with sensor controls, including safe and successful application in your practice or hospital. * Result of patient survey by 2hm & Associates GmbH, 02/2012, all information given in %

While taking the individual patient reaction into consideration, the cooling is controlled in such a way that a constant therapy temperature is achieved and that the cooling is only as intense as is required for an effective therapy. Pleasant for the patient... The cooling cap is made of soft silicon, which stays unchanged even at the treatment temperature. The cap remains easy to handle and fits every head shape. Due to the constant treatment temperature, DigniLife can also be used in cases in which the hair has already thinned. and safe for you The complete cooling application procedure is electronically recorded.
