September 2014 Policy Number N131 Page 3 of 7 1. School Uniform and Equipment Uniform is worn by all students to the end of Year 11. The purpose of uniform at KGGS is to allow students to look smart and feel part of our community, whilst projecting the best possible image of our school. Please therefore only purchase approved uniform items. Students are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times during the school day, including on journeys to and from school. They should also have the correct equipment with them at all times. In selecting our uniform we try to make the choice simple and unambiguous so that our uniform policy is easily understood, while taking into account the cost and ensuring items are easily available. Uniform can be purchased from our school shop located just inside the pedestrian entrance to school, (please refer to our website for current opening times), or anytime online at www.kggs.schoolguise.co.uk, (also available via the online uniform shop link at www.kestevengrantham.lincs.sch.uk). KGGS work hard at ensuring all uniform items sold through our shop or online are of the highest quality and competitively priced. Purchasing uniform from our school shop or online will ensure that all items are compliant, and at the same time you will be supporting our school as any resulting profit will be used to support our school activities. 2. If you require second hand uniform at any other time, please telephone reception to make an appointment. 5. ALTERNATIVE UNIFORM SUPPLIERS The school uniform is also available from local retailers, Downtown at Gonerby Moor and Grantham Clothing on London Road. 6. OTHER EQUIPMENT Textbooks and stationery are provided by the school, but we do ask that students have the following items of equipment: A plain black or navy waterproof school bag or rucksack (designed to hold books and A4 files not a fashion handbag). A KGGS student planner (purchased from school). A pen. Pencils (HB), a 30 cm ruler, pencil, crayons and a rubber. A scientific calculator available to purchase through school. An English dictionary (recommended: The Little Oxford Dictionary/Heinemann English Dictionary). A French dictionary Collins Pocket French dictionary (ISBN 978-0-00-720889-0) or Collins French dictionary compact Edition (ISBN 0-00-723145-8). 7. MAKE-UP, JEWELLERY & HAIR STYLES We consider make-up to be inappropriate within school and ask parents to support us in encouraging their daughters not to wear any, if they do wear it the make-up should be discreet. We

September 2014 Policy Number N131 Page 6 of 7 also feel that jewellery should not be worn in school owing to obvious health and safety concerns; however, discreet crosses (which may have to be removed during practical lessons) are allowed on a long chain. Similarly, students may wear one pair of small plain gold/silver studs, one stud to be worn in each earlobe. Ear studs must be removed for PE lessons. Other facial piercings are NOT acceptable. Unusual hairstyles and hair colours are NOT acceptable. 8. MOBILE PHONES We prefer students not to bring mobile phones or other electrical items to school as they often cause more problems than they solve. However, if a student feels she needs to carry a mobile phone for the journeys to and from school, we expect it to be turned off and kept out of sight throughout the school day. Mobile phones are not to be used for communicating with friends or home during the school day. A public telephone is available in the New Foyer and in an emergency telephones can be used in the pastoral office. The school will accept no responsibility for lost or stolen mobile phones or other electrical items. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR THE CORRECT UNIFORM AT ALL TIMES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, INCLUDING ON JOURNEYS TO AND FROM SCHOOL. THEY SHOULD ALSO HAVE THE CORRECT EQUIPMENT WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES.
