The qualification Introduction The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing is a job ready qualification based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a hairdresser. Throughout this qualification you will ensure responsibility to reduce risks to health and safety, give customers a positive impression, advise and consult with clients, shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, change hair colour, cut hair using basic techniques, style and finish hair and set and dress hair. National Occupational Standards (NOS) This qualification has been mapped to the relevant NOS, and is regulated on the Regulated Qualifications Framework. This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications. You will be supervised by technical staff and assessed on your occupational competence. 2

Progression This is an approved qualification for working as a hairdresser. It also provides a sound platform for further learning or training. Guidance on assessment This book contains the mandatory units that make up this qualification. Optional units will be provided in additional booklets. Where indicated, VTCT will provide assessment materials. Assessments may be internal or external. The method of assessment is indicated in each unit. Internal assessment (any requirements will be shown in the unit) Assessment is set, marked and internally quality assured by the centre to clearly demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes. Assessment is sampled by VTCT external quality assurers. Being able to identify the condition of your client s hair, skin and scalp will determine which products and massage techniques to use. You will develop a sound knowledge of shampooing and conditioning products which will enable you to provide your client with good aftercare advice.
