HÔTEL CINQ CODET presents
SUPER GREEN From Paris Design Week to the FIAC, Super Green invites Hotel Cinq Codet guests to reconnect with nature through a sensorial exhibition devised by Studio Marant, in which art communes with design throughout. The hotel s living spaces are immersed in a wave of green. This includes the kitchen too, as the hotel chef has also concocted a Super Green menu tailor-made especially for the occasion. The décor, designed by Jean-Philippe Nuel, is fittingly steeped in a creative universe wholly in keeping with the hotel s commitment to art, which it has honoured since its inauguration. FROM 8 SEPTEMBER TO 22 OCTOBER 2017
THE CINQ CODET Tucked away in the heart of Paris s quintessential Left Bank, is a fine address known to insiders only. Situated between the Invalides Museum and the Eiffel Tower, Hotel Cinq Codet comes into its own. In addition to its unique, graphic architecture, the hotel affords outstanding distinction in a luminous, cosy setting. Jean-Philippe Nuel s contemporary design makes for surprisingly spacious surroundings, which exude true peace and quiet. Each of the 67 rooms and suites is a haven of understated chic sophistication, for an enlightened art of living, which also extends from the spa to the restaurant, where you can enjoy blissful privacy. This is what makes the Cinq Codet so special: its commitment to genuine hospitality with the utmost refinement. 5 RUE LOUIS CODET - PARIS 75007
THE EXHIBITION Start your visit with Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte s Cork Helmet, and all you will hear is the sound of silence. In the hall, you will suddenly sense the smell of earth, from the Green Path laid out by Un Peu Beaucoup. At the bottom of the path, an array of different atmospheres will take you a shade further You will be able to touch the horizon, as you near its edge, with Dorothée Recker s shaded canvases, while Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte s Paradosso will let you rest standing up. Vincent Loiret s Céleste lamp will then light up the full kaleidoscope of colours, which is also inset in Marion Duclos Mailaender s mineral bag. This same raw material bursts its way into Isabelle Daëron s Clay Manufactures and onto Jean-Baptiste Caron s wax and concrete surface of paintings, in the manner of aerial abstractions in which you can almost feel the wind blowing. All around, a contemporary winter garden is laid out, dotted with features, and ornamented by three Eaux Arborantes fragrances by Philippe Di Méo : a video by Julien Discrit shows insects grappling with a ribbon, while wood panelling from Atelier Marotte is transformed imaginatively and innovatively by Pier Stockholm. Outside, the hanging garden is transcended by Romain Vicari s work. Nature beckons
PIER STOCKHOLM Born in Lima, Peru in 1977, he lives and works in Paris. Pier Stockholm is a Paris-based Peruvian visual artist. His work is, to a great extent, formal, incorporating personal thoughts and references, obsessions and subjective stories that lead to the very essence of Life. For Pier Stockholm, art is a matter of endurance, loss and rediscovering faith; he is convinced that the unexpected is an essential factor in creativity. Using random measuring systems, scales and colours, Pier Stockholm draws his inspiration from influences such as modernist architecture, history, design, diagrams, scales, rituals, classifications, icons and ornaments. Each piece starts out with a rule or a production method, in order to integrate the unexpected into it. Atelier Marotte offered the artist two Santos Morado noble rosewood and Makassar Kaju mahogany panels, which are in opposition to the raw materials used in the artist s architecture work. Jean-Baptiste Caron was born in 1983, and lives and works in Paris. The artist appropriates the element of poetry present in each object, no matter how small, to create a work. Using these simple elements dust, concrete, draughts the artist acts as a prestidigitator, diverting the laws of nature, whether it s the Earth s attraction or the force of gravity. With minimal and almost intangible use of language, the artist seeks to blur the boundaries between the realms of thought and the possible, gradually and constantly pushing back the limits. JEAN-BAPTISTE CARON
JULIEN DISCRIT Born in Épernay, France in 1978, the artist lives and works in Paris. Geography, as an attempt at describing the world or at least depicting it is a major source of reflection for Julien Discrit. Giving shape to the incongruities, ambiguities and paradoxes that arise between cartography and territory perhaps best sums up the artist s research process, which ranges from installations and performance art, to photography and video. Julien Discrit has taken part in a number of solo and group exhibitions, including Territoire Hopi at Galerie YGREC, Paris, Sublime at the Pompidou Centre-Metz in 2015, the Lyon Biennale in 2011, and Consistance du visible, which earned him the Ricard Foundation Prize in 2008. The Italian-Brazilian artist was born in 1990 in Paris, where he lives and works. Romain Vicari is an explorer of urban spaces, and first became interested in the subject during his youth in São Paulo. The artist explores all manner of spaces, from construction sites to abandoned locations, in order to master and occupy them. Each location is a transient laboratory that he inhabits as an artistic medium. He creates installations within these spaces, in which light and colour underscore the his own artistic universe and the materials he uses (plaster, concrete, resin and metal structures), which evoke the importance attached to these public and architectural spaces. The artist s works are both intricate and refined, albeit in contrast with the hardness of the materials he uses. These investigations enable the artist to appropriate the objects he uses, through organic nature and vegetation full of lightness from colourful materials and elegant twists, worked into the steel bars that give structure to his shamanic installations. DOROTHÉE RECKER Franco-German artist Dorothée Recker, born in Oslo in 1984, lives and works in Paris. The starting point for her oeuvre is the desire to produce images. Paintings, photos, films and objects relate her perception of things, which she expresses in various forms. Her work is primarily inspired by sensitive experiences, and natural and universal phenomena. The artist s work is, accordingly, a celebration of the colours of the sky, the depth of the horizon, the movement of waves, the feel of sand and sunlight. The Belgian designer Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte, born in 1991, graduated in industrial design from La Cambre School of Art and Design in 2014. He set up his own studio the same year while participating in a residency programme at MAD in Situ workshops in Brussels. The aim of his work is to give life to his experiences. Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte s design work is enigmatic, and seeks to challenge the obvious. It invites viewers to change their habits and to perceive reality in a new way. Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte has held onto the surrealism and craftsmanship of his roots. His work indeed has the power to combine the desire to break away with the innovative use of noble materials. ISABELLE DAËRON Born in Plœmeur in 1983, the artist lives and works in Paris. A graduate of ESAD in Reims and ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Isabelle Daëron develops projects that explore the inhabitable environment and the natural elements, by devising objects, spaces and installations. What does inhabitable mean today? (What is inhabitable today?). Today s environmental challenges call for this notion to be challenged, more particularly in its relationship to the technology that, to some extent, defines it. Isabelle Daëron set up her own studio in 2010. She takes part in research programmes for the research unit at the Cité du Design in Saint-Étienne and teaches object design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. A graduate of the École Boulle and the École Normale Supérieure in Cachan, Vincent Loiret (born in 1977) divides his time between a range of different activities: drawing, writing, design and teaching. The objects he creates are primarily questions, in many cases with regard to the dysfunction and fragility of objects that need to be mastered. In essence, objects that toy with the obvious and, above all, are looking to be understood. VINCENT LOIRET
MARION MAILAENDER Marion Duclos Mailaender was born in Marseille in 1979. She lives and works in Paris. After graduating from the École Boulle in 2002, she set up her own interior design agency in 2004, Design & Fils: her work there also includes creating objects. In her objects, Marion Mailaender uses details from everyday life that may seem trivial, yet are the very basis of a memory. There are few boundaries between the styles and great wit in Marion Duclos Mailaender s projects, which push back the limits of good taste. Liquides Imaginaires is composed of spirits akin to the fragrance who enjoy working together, complementary skills, and creative universes that come together for the supreme art of creation. A group reflection that looks at perfume in its most diverse forms. With Philippe Di-Méo, they have created a trilogy of fragrances. Eaux Arborantes is a tribute to trees, the untamed world, vegetation and animal kingdom. The tree is the totem of this trilogy. It is revered as a divinity, becoming a mythical, protective being. EAUX ARBORANTES
