Dear Shooting Stars, October is my favorite month of the year! Fall is such a beautiful season of the year. October is also the bridge to our best selling season of the year, the holiday Christmas season. Now is a great time to strategize what you would like for your Mary Kay business to provide for you and your family which could look like anything from a debt-free Christmas to a special family Christmas trip to paying off debt or bills that may have accumulated over the year. You just need a goal and a plan. As I have included, a multi-page spread on Fragrances which is filled with a wealth of information, I am going to make my letter this month very short. My esmesage to you is that there are a variety of ways that your Mary Kay business can make your life easier financially toward achieving your goals. Regardless of your situation, time constraints, or life demands, I am quite sure that if you share your goal with me, I can create a workable and doable plan for you to make it happen. UNDERSTANDING FRAGRANCE Sales Director Cathy Sims UPDATED 9/2017 There use to be a show on TV many years ago, called "Tabitha Takes Over". She was a famous hair dresser who would go into failing salons and evaluate them. She would ask them about the different areas in their salon where they could make money - cutting hair, nails, massages, product sales. She d identify the weaknesses and correct them. Now, in our business we have many areas generating income, too, particularly in sales. We have our skin care, men s products, glamour, body care, sun care, seasonal products and fragrance. You need to evaluate your business to be sure you are selling the entire product line. One weakness in many consultant's business is fragrance sales. How are yours? Global Perfume industry is valued at 36 billion in 2016, and is expected to reach 51 billion by 2022, according to Euromonitor International. According to Tru Fragrance.com - 72% of adult women wear perfume 79% of fragrance wears own between two to 10 fragrances, with 8% owning more 59% of fragrance users wear the fragrance at least daily 90% of trendsetters are fragrance users Men 59% of adult men wear fragrance 54% of men fragrance wearers wear fragrance at least once a day 51% of men fragrance wearers own two to four fragrances and 24% own 5 or more 43% of men fragrance wearers purchase fragrance at least once a quarter 21% purchase fragrance at least once a month 81% of trendsetters are fragrance wearers and 66% of them are heavy users 35-39 years olds will spend more on fragrance than all the other age groups. With this information, you can truly see how fragrance sales could boost your yearly income!

If you are not selling fragrances, you are missing the boat! No wonder every celebrity in Hollywood is creating their own fragrance! There s BIG money there. And, our company is right on the mark. We wondered why we were having so many new fragrances, now we know! So let s talk about how to triple your income: First thing is to know your products. They also have revised Men s and Women s fragrance charts. You can also find them under "Products" on Intouch. The charts are to use when you meet someone who already has a favorite in another company. You can see what fragrance family it is in and recommend one of ours in the same family. Let s talk about the fragrances themselves. Did you know that - 1. Mary Kay takes up to 2 years to develop a fragrance? 2. there are over 3000 materials a fragrance house may choose from to create a fragrance? Usually takes 75-200 different ingredients. That s why it just says Fragrance on the packaging with no ingredients listed. Our fragrances have three notes. - The top note is the first impression. - The middle note is the heart of the fragrance. It begins to blend with your body chemistry after 10-15 minutes of applying. It is where the fragrance reaches its deepest intensity. - The bottom note is the final stage. A fragrance usually lasts 1 to 3 hours after application. This is when the fragrance is most harmonious, a point when all the notes have molded gently together. It will smell differently depending on how long you ve had it on. All of our fragrances are either Eau de Parfums or Eau de Toilette and now, with the Believe & Wonder Collection, we have lotions, gels and spray mists. They classify fragrances according to the amount of essential oils they have in them. Perfums have the highest amount, last longer on the skin and are more expensive. (20-40%) Next is Eau de Parfums which have a lower amount of essential oils. (15-20%) (Perfumeflavors.com) The Eau de Toilette and Colognes - they are more or less interchangeable. Since they can have the same amount of essential oils. (5-15%) Scented bath products - lotions, washes, scrubs have a hint of soft fragrance. We have six Eau de Parfums in our current line and one Eau de Toilettes. (Enchanted Wish) Customers who are sensitive or live with a sensitive spouse probably would enjoy the Eau de Toilette or lotions when we have them available, since the essential oils are less. Many things affect how the fragrance smells on you. Just because you like it on someone else, doesn't mean it will smell that way on you.

1. Body chemistry is different, fragrances react uniquely to every woman's body chemistry 2. Birth control and other medications can affect fragrance on the skin 3. If your skin is dry, the fragrance will be absorbed and will not last - dampen skin first Application - apply to the pulse points of the body, it is where the blood is closest to the skin, wrist, collarbone, behind knees. Or if you just want a hint, spray in the air and walk through it. Don t ever rub your wrists together after applying because that breaks the molecules of the fragrance and ruins the scent. Make the scent last longer by moistening the skin Applying extra emollient night cream where you will be applying so it will give the scent something to cling to. Apply immediately after a shower When lotions are available, fragrance layering helps the scent to stay longer. Use the shower gel, lotion then follow with the spray mist. It is very effective at a party when you use the shower gel as part of the satin hands set. Then on one hand use the lotion and spray mist. When you are closing the party, have them smell both hands. The hand that you layered the products will have more scent. Tell your customers (and you) that fragrances usually last 3-5 years, except heat and light alters it. So here s what you do: 1. wear one all the time 2. a fragrance roll up with one of everything open to demo 3. Samples from the company 4. Open houses use salt shakers and cotton balls 5. Spray business cards and put in delivery bag or in thank you note 6. Most clever of all - dollar tree pill bottles. Spray cotton balls with fragrances and label. Since the nose can get confused after a few scents, last one is coffee to clear nose. Keep them with you all the time. One for men and one for women 7. Make sachets for every special event you do. 8. Make deals with your customer - she sells five for you, you ll give her the next bottle free. Sell five Forever Diamonds ($40) $200 in sales $100 profit. Less the $20 cost of the Forever Diamonds = $80 bucks, five new customers to call and she s happy! 9. Use any of these or all, based on the occasion and do fragrance surveys at every event, facial, party that you have. It will be an immediate sale or a sale later, log her preference on her wish list. **Fragrance selling is not just for the holidays, it is for everyday of the year!! HAPPY SELLING!!
