Features & Benefits Maiden Hair Marine Extracts Maiden hair is a sought after red seaweed that is found in the shoals of tropical waters. It contains an extract with highly beneficial properties called biostructure. Biostructurer is an active substance for restructuring the hair. It smoothes and protects the cuticle, restoring flexibility and shine to dry damaged hair. Biostructurer forms a soluble film on the hair, which provides protection, during and after colouring ensuring stronger, healthier shiny hair with long lasting colour results. Micro Pigments / Ultra Low Ammonia Low ammonia of 1.3 to 3% means less swelling of the hair shaft, resulting in minimal damage. Mycolour contains micro pigments which can penetrate deeply into the hair shaft with minimum swelling. The ammonia content in Mycolour is calibrated so each level of colour contains only the amount of ammonia required to perform at its best. True to Swatch Colours With RPR s commitment to the professional hairdresser we ensured that the swatches on our Mycolour Selector are true to swatch. True to swatch colours mean that you can be assured of consistently achieving your desired results every time with confidence. Hybrid Technology Mycolour can be used as both a demi-permanent and a permanent colour. Saves the salon inventory whilst giving the colourist an exact match to refresh colours. This also means less cost for the salon. Formulated for Australasia Australia has one of the harshest climates in the world Mycolour is designed to withstand and perform despite the harsh effects of our environment. It has been tested extensively on a diverse range of multi-cultural hair types from Caucasian to Asian. Italian Manufacturer Italy is world renowned for having the best technology with hair colour pigments. We get the latest fashion colours and trends direct from Italy. The Mycolour formula exceeds international standards and is constantly updated to international regulations Professional Colour Selector Consultation friendly Cards in tonal family International Coding System (ICS) 3

Active Ingredients Ammonia raises the ph level and opens the cuticle to allow penetration of the hair colour molecules. The low level of ammonia used in Mycolour becomes active once mixed with Mycolour Crème Peroxide and the gas dissipates during the colour process. Hydrogen peroxide supplies the oxygen needed to fuel the oxidation process. The oxidation process in hair colouring performs two tasks: a. Lightens the natural pigment. b. Develops the artificial pigment deposited in the cortex. Intermediate Dyes are the artificial pigments used to produce permanent hair colour. Mycolour uses micro pigment technology which will expand on entering the cortex. These active ingredients make up only 10% of the product. The remaining ingredients are made up of a conditioning base or carrier. Micro pigment Lightened natural pigment Natural pigment Types of Colour Demi-Permanent Colour Contains permanent dye molecules that are activated within the cuticle. These colours may be used to match the client s natural level, darken the hair or balance the mid lengths. Demi-Permanent colour does not lighten natural levels. Consult, choose colour and mix 1:1.5 Shampoo hair with clarifying shampoo, rinse well and towel dry well. Remove excess moisture from hair. Hair should be up to 80% dry. Apply roots to ends and process for 20 minutes Rinse and lightly shampoo then condition. Style as desired. Permanent Colour Mycolour contains low ammonia and lightens the natural pigment, creating a new base for the permanent micro pigments to be deposited into the cortex. Direct Dye Colour RPR s direct dyes are used to produce intense, longer lasting fashion shades on even the most porous hair. Unlike traditional direct dye colours, these colours contain both, intermediate micro pigments and larger colour molecule that colour both the cortex and cuticle. Direct Dye colour is both a permanent and semipermanent colour in the one application. 4

Circle of Service Philosophy We at RPR belief great colouring and a professional service begin with a thorough consultation. The Circle of Service philosophy is designed to assist you the colourist /stylist in maintaining the highest level of professionalism by following these five simple steps. Great looking hair starts with you sharing your expertise and advice with your client through a professional consultation. This will ensure that you understand what they want from their service and any hair concerns they may have. RPR has a complete range of professional products, tools and training regimes to help you service their needs. 1. Pre - service Your preparation of client history, clean station and colour trolley. 2. ICAP Introduce yourself with a smile and your assistant if there is one present. Consult desired tone and style, maintenance, chemical history and skin tone. Analyse the texture, porosity, tenacity, density, elasticity, pre-service treatments, and natural level desired tone and reflect, and scalp condition. Prescribe and explain the procedure of the colouring process and treatments you may use during and post chemical service. Any follow up services necessary to achieve certain colour results if not possible to achieve in one service. Show and explain the prescribed Home Hair Care system for your client. Be sure to include Shampoo, Conditioner, Treatment. Explain it is what you will use on their hair and place the products on the bench in front of them so they can read about them during the processing time. 3. Colour selection Know your underlying pigments and the Mycolour wheel in choosing the correct colours and mixing formula for the desired colour. 4. Colour removal Know the correct procedure for removing the colour leaving no stains and include a treatment to condition and lock the colour in the hair. 5. After colour care Explain how the products prescribed and used have benefited the hair. Explain the styling products used to style and finish the look. Ask the question. Would you like to take home the prescribed products today? 5

Mycolour Concepts All colours are made from the three PRIMARY colours. Blue, Red and Yellow. They are the three pigment colours that cannot be made by mixing any other colours. These three colours are mixed to create all other colours and can be combined with white or black to create lighter and darker shades of these colours. is cool and the darkest primary colour and can dominate all colours. Biggest molecule and sits closest to the cuticle. First to be removed from the hair when colouring. Red is warm and the brightest primary colour. Medium molecule and sits deeper in the cortex. More difficult to remove from the hair when colouring. is warm and the lightest primary colour. Smallest molecule and sits deepest in the cortex. Most difficult to remove from the hair when colouring. SECONDARY Colours are made from mixing two primary colours together in equal proportion. P + P = S Blue + Red = Violet which is cool. Red + = Orange which is the only warm secondary. + Blue = Green which is cool. TERTIARY Colours are made by mixing a primary and a secondary colour together in equal proportion. P + S = T Blue + Violet = Blue/Violet Blue + Green = Blue/Green Green + = Green/ + Orange = /Orange Red + Orange = Red/Orang Red + Violet = Red/Violet Cool tones appear deeper and darker. Warm tones appear brighter and lighter. 6

Natural Colours Natural hair colour depends on melanin pigments within the cortex of the hair. The two main melanin pigments found in human hair blend together in various amounts and proportions to form all the visible natural hair colours. Eumelanin provides black and brown pigments and determines how dark hair is. More of this pigment present in someone s hair gives the overall hair colour a cool look, like ash. Eumelanin pigments consist of all the three primary colours: blue, red and yellow. Pheomelanin provides red and yellow pigments. This gives rise to warmer colours in someone s hair, like auburn, strawberry or gold. Brown hair contains a lot of eumelanin, red hair has large quantities of pheomelanin, while light blonde hair contains relatively little melanin the pale yellow we see is due to the keratin in the hair, rather than pigments. White and albino hair contains little or no pigment at all. To create a natural tone, we must have all three primary colours present. When the three primary colours are mixed together they create Brown. Every natural level has an underlying pigment. The underlying pigment is referred to as Natural Reflect which is more visible under light. 7

Counteracting Colours When wanting to remove unwanted pigment or reflect from the hair and return the tone to a natural colour we do so by using a counteracting pigment. Colours opposite each other on the colour wheel are referred to as counteracting or neutralising colours. Whether it is the natural underlying pigment wanting to be removed or the exposed pigment from lightening there is a counteracting pigment most suitable to remove the unwanted pigment. Counteracting pigments automatically create the natural tones as the three primary colours are always present. Example: Blue is opposite and counteracts orange. Orange is made of red and yellow. Red is opposite and counteracts green. Green is made of yellow and blue. Yellow is opposite and counteracts violet. Violet is made of blue and red. Always refer to the colour wheel to steer you in the right direction. Crème Peroxide The table below explains how peroxide works at each volume with reference to the Lifting and Depositing percentage during the oxidisation process when colouring hair. * Greater Quantity of Oxygen Oxygen Volume % of Depositing Colour % of Oxygen for Lightening (Lifting percentage) 5 Volume (1.5%) 1:1.5 100% Deposit Only 10 Volume (3%) 1:1.5 75% 25% 20 Volume (6%) 1:1.5 50% 50% 30 Volume (9%) 1:1.5 35% 65% 40 Volume (12%) 1:1.5 20% 80% 40 Volume (12%) 1:2.5 10% 90% * 8

Mycolour Chart Numbering System Mycolour is referenced by the International Coding System(ICS). The ICS indicates the fashion reflect of the number behind a decimal point (.) The Natural Levels are recognized by the first number reading left to right in a range from 1 to 10. 1 being the darkest and 10 being the lightest. The Reflects are recognized by the numbers after the decimal points. Although these numbers represent a reflect, they do not necessarily reflect the underlying pigment of the reflect. Numbering System Naturals: Green Int. Naturals 00: Green.1: ash-blue.22: violet.3: gold-yellow.4: copper-orange.5: mahogany-blue.6: red.10: blue Reading the Mycolour Chart The first number before the decimal point represents the Natural Level. The first number after the decimal is known as the Pre-Dominant reflect and it is the strongest reflect. The second number after the decimal point is known as the Secondary reflect. When the numbers after the decimal point are the same this means the reflect is more intense. Example 7.0 Natural level 7.1 Level 7 Ash 7.11 Intense Ash Level 7 7.111- Very Intense Ash Level 7 Example 2 7.46 7 is the tone level. 4 is the pre - dominant reflect - Copper 6 is the secondary reflect - Red Creating Colour Not all colours are presented in a chart but this does not mean they don t exist or cannot be made. Creating off chart colours are easy once you understand how pigments work. Level 6 Copper gold - 6.43 is not on the chart. So, let s make it in a 30g quantity. The predominant reflect being Copper.4 needs to be in a higher quantity then the secondary reflect Gold.3 20g 6.4 + 10g 6.3 = 6.43 Should you want the secondary reflect show less simply mix more of the dominant reflect to less of the secondary reflect. 25g 6.4 + 5g 6.3 = 6.403 The 0 represents the Gold.3 is minimal reflect. 9

Mixing & Application Formula 1:1.5 E.g. 30g Mycolour Permanent Crème + 45g Mycolour Crème Peroxide Mixing RPR RECOMMENDS THE USE OF ELECTRONIC SCALES FOR ACCURATE MIXING OF MYCOLOUR. Always use a plastic or glass-mixing bowl. For best results apply Mycolour to clean dry hair without any build - up of natural oils, product or silicone. Apply RPR Fix My Frizz serum or SO Polished around hairline to prevent staining of the skin. Wear protective gloves. Process for 30-45 minutes. Retouch Application For retouch applications apply to new growth area only and process for 30-45 minutes. Refreshing Mid-Lengths and Ends It is imperative when colouring or refreshing ends that you mix a new batch to ensure a vibrant and consistent result. Refreshing the ends with your root mixture including natural base will result in a flat and dull reflect. Mix fresh batch with 10 or 5 Volume Mycolour Crème Peroxide depending on level of fade. Up to 1 level of fade use 10 volume Crème Peroxide and process for last 15 minutes. Up to 2 levels of fade use 5 Volume Crème peroxide and process for last 20 minutes. Mycolour suggests using a filler for more than 2 levels of fade prior to refreshing the ends. See Filler Guide on following page for correct re pigmentation procedure. Add 5 ml of RPR Untangle Me to the mix for porosity equalisation during the colouring process. 14

Filler Guide Re Pigmentation When colouring back from light level blondes to darker shades it is important to fill the hair with the missing pigments for the darker tone to remain and hold strong in the hair. Colouring light hair with a darker shade with no re pigmentation will result in flat non - lasting colour result. Preparing the hair Gently shampoo the hair with RPR De Chlorinate or SO Deep shampoo. Dry hair to 80% with warm dryer Mix the appropriate filler from the formulation chart with Untangle Me in a 1:1.5 ratio. Untangle Me contains moisture and protein which is essential to keep the hair in optimum condition. Apply sparingly to lightened areas only. Process filler for 15 minutes and gently squeeze excess colour off. Mix target shade at a 1:1.5 mix ratio with 5 vol and apply roots to ends. Process for 20 minutes. N.B. Adjust regrowth formula with appropriate developer strength for desired result. Colour Removal System Add a little water to the hairline and gently emulsify to remove colour of the skin. Add water to the entire hair and emulsify mimicking a shampoo action and rinse until water runs clear. Lightly shampoo with appropriate RPR, Salon Only or AMIPLEX shampoo. Rinse well. Lightly towel dry the hair and apply appropriate RPR, Salon Only or AMIPLEX conditioner or mask. Leave for 5-15 minutes Rinse and style as required. N.B Processing the final conditioner or mask for full time lowers the PH level of the hair and closing of the cuticle preventing post colour irritation and colour loss. 15

Direct Dyes Mycolour direct dye colours not only contain direct dyes but also contain intermediate dyes with our micro pigments that penetrate deep into the hair s cortex giving longer lasting colour results. So not only do they permanently colour the cortex of the hair but they also stain the cuticle. Add protect My Scalp to prevent possible staining of the scalp. Direct Dye Series. 4.22, 5.66, 7.43, 8.62 and 8.43 Both an Intermediate Dye and Direct dye, Colours the cortex and stains the cuticle. Permanent and Semi Permanent colour in one application. Mix with appropriate naturals for grey coverage. Use to boost other Mycolour tones. Stains the cuticle therefore cannot be removed by pre - lightening products. Not suitable for clients who change their colour frequently. Best removed with clarifying shampoo or Neutral How do the Direct Dyes work? Direct dye stains the cuticles Direct dye colours the cortex Micro pigments 16

Grey Coverage The Mycolour pallet provides the colourist with all the necessary pigments for achieving maximum 100% coverage on all hair types. Work with the Grey Coverage formulation guide to guide best possible formulation for the appropriate hair type you wish to cover. In its simplest form, Mycolour grey coverage formula is equal parts of Natural base to Reflect. E.g. 30g Mycolour grey coverage mix. 15g Natural + 15g Reflect + 45g Crème Peroxide. For resistant grey hair mix: 15g Intense Natural.00 + 15g Mycolour Reflect + 45g Crème peroxide. Mixing & Processing Mix your formula with 10, 20 or 30 volume Crème Peroxide in a 1:1.5 ratio. Always measure on scales for correct formulation and consistency. Process for 45 minutes without heat for maximum deposit. Grey Coverage - Application & Processing Application for grey coverage needs to be substantial enough to saturate the white hair. Resistant hair can push the colour of the regrowth area preventing successful coverage. It is advisable to continue re applying till the cuticle has opened and the colour has settled on the roots. RPR recommends processing for a full 45 minutes to achieve the best results. Grey Coverage - Mid Lengths & Ends Reformulate with a fresh batch of reflect only colour when refreshing the mid length and ends. The amount of colour for reformulation depends on length of hair to be refreshed. It is not advisable to comb through from roots to ends as this will cause colour to fade more quickly and result a flat reflect due to natural base content in the colour formula. Mix reflect formula with 10 or 5 volume crème peroxide and 5mls of Untangle Me. Apply ends colour after 20 minutes and process for up to 20 minutes. 17

Lightening & Covering Grey Hair Full coverage can be achieved by using Mycolour 10, 20 or 30 Volume Crème Peroxide. Mycolour enables up to 100% grey coverage with the use of 30 Volume Crème Peroxide therefore allowing lightening by up to three levels. E.g. Natural Level: 5 % White: 100 % Desired level: level 8 Ash Formula: 15g 8.1 or 8.111 + 15g 8 or 8.00 + 45g 30 Volume Crème Peroxide Processing time: 45 minutes. In some cases when the white hair is completely missing from melanin, it needs to be replaced to achieve cool tones, 100% coverage and no translucent results. In this case it is recommended to add 3 5 g of Gold.3 or Intense Natural Gold.003 to your formula. Use 3g of Gold.3 one shade darker for very resistant hair. Use up to 5g Intense Natural Gold same level for normal white hair. Add.3 or.003 when covering grey hair and using reflects of Pearl.12, Chocolate.23, Beige.32 and Copper.4 to prevent pink or orange roots. Grey Coverage tips Always use scales when mixing formulas. Use the Intense Natural.00 only for resistant hair. Darker results will occur when used on non - resistant hair. Be sure to saturate grey area with sufficient colour. Always check the colour has not been pushed off the regrowth area when colouring resistant hair. Always process for correct time. Add MS or Green to reduce further warmth when lifting darker levels with grey coverage. Follow Grey Coverage formulation guide for correct formulas. Mylight series are not suitable for grey coverage. Grey Coverage Men Men s side burn hair is often highly resistant. Men tend to throw warmth. RPR recommends the following formula for a natural look with minimal warmth. 10g Intense Ash Series + 10g Intense Natural Series + 30g 10 or 20 Volume Crème Peroxide Directions Apply to the most resistant areas first and reapply to those areas last, if required. Process for up to 45 minutes. 18

Mylight Series Mylight and the natural level Mylight are designed for no longer than 3-4 weeks regrowth and will lighten four to five levels to create beautiful, soft results on natural level 6 and lighter. They are available in 2 intermixable series - 11 Series - 12 Series Mixing Ratio 1:2.5 E.g. 20g Mylight + 50g 30 or 40 Volume Crème Peroxide Processing time Mylight processing time is 45 to 60 minutes without heat. It is recommended that Mylight be used with 30 or 40 volume Crème Peroxide for maximum lift. Mylight tips Always use scales when mixing formula. Mix to manufacturer s instructions. Not doing so will result in overly warm tones. Using a small tint brush prevents overlapping. Start application from nape to crown avoiding overlapping, leaving front hairline last. Take fine sections for better penetration of colour. To reduce warmth when lifting add up to 1/3 of mixture Mycolour Medium Ash (MS), Green or Blue. E.g. 15g Mylight + 5g Additive + 50g Crème Peroxide. Keep application wet. Allowing the coloured area to dry will prevent desired lift and result. Do not comb through Mylight through the mid lengths and ends as this may cause over processing and breakage. Leave hair sitting in natural form and not clipped up at crown to prevent overheating and breakage. Mylight series are not recommended to be used as toners. Use to create caramel tones on darker natural levels. Mylight Guide We recommend using the following table as a guide for Mylight. Base Colour Crème Peroxide Processing Time Mylight Series 6 40 Volume 60 minutes Intermixable: 7 30/40 Volume 45-60 minutes 11 series 12 series 8/9 30 Volume 45-60 minutes 19
