Introducing.. Michelle Thompson 1. I am currently the British Hairdressing Awards Afro Hairdresser of the Year as well as Stylist of the Year and Colourist of the Year at the Black Beauty Sensationnel Hair Awards 2015. This year has been a complete whirlwind for me and to be recognised by not only your peers and industry icons but the entire hairdressing industry is something I can t even describe I am truly delighted to receive these accolades and will keep on pushing boundaries throughout my career.
2. I am an educator - education to me is the backbone of the hairdressing industry. Within Francesco Group and the hairdressing industry as a whole, constant education is key to pushing the boundaries. I provide courses specifically for Afro hair both internally and externally. I also work closely with Mizani/Redken and Avlon Keracare to provide training to stylists up and down the country. These courses range from Afro Cut and Finish, Identifying Hair Textures and Types and a Relaxer Class. It is such a fulfilling experience and I love every minute of it! 3. I play a major role in the Francesco Group Creative Team. Alongside fellow members; Anya, Claire, James, Melvyn and Mia, I work to develop our collaborative ideas for our annual branded collection shoots, as well as deliver the latest trends to our fellow team members at Francesco Group. Working as a unit gives us the chance to each provide our own personal input and create something extremely special. Our latest branded collection is called #timetoshine and has received coverage all over the world. Being part of this team is a great accolade and I am delighted to be part of this.
4. I work with all types of hair. Even though my speciality is predominately Afro hair I am fully trained and fully qualified in all hair types and textures, something that very few people offer clients within salons up and down the UK. Each day in the salon is never the same and having such a mixture of skills allows my days to be different and of course constantly evolve my skills in different areas. Social Media is such a huge part of everyone s lives - it allows us to interact locally, nationally and internationally with a huge spectrum of people on a daily basis.
5. I absolutely love what I do. I always wake up looking forward to the day ahead and providing my clients with the upmost in customer service and skills. Having a connection with your client and transforming them really makes me proud and gives me such a buzz. Every day can be so varied. One day I could be doing clients, the next I could be teaching, delivering a Seminar or doing a photo shoot. I am privileged to work with such a fantastic team of people and I wouldn t change anything about my work here s to a fantastic 2016!
