ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF Fashion & Textiles Merchandising FASHION BUSINESS

believe in your passion create your career succeed at THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF CREATIVE DESIGN Fashion... Design vs Business ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF FASHION & TEXTILE MERCHANDISING To be successful in the fashion industry, students must develop a sense of what the consumers want, what works, what sells and how to effectively market it. The Advanced Diploma of Fashion & Textiles Merchandising teaches students the essential business and marketing skills to succeed within this competitive industry. The Advanced Diploma of Fashion & Textiles Merchandising course offers students intensive training in fashion merchandising processes including product development, management, buying, textile design, fashion design, computer aided design, business and strategic planning and importing/exporting to give students the skills to work in their chosen area of the fashion industry. The first year is generally broken into design and product specifications, production processes (product development, pattern-making, sewing, industry communications, textiles, sourcing and supply chains) and marketing and business. In the second year, students work on developing, designing and presenting a range of clothing, from concept to final production in order to learn the business skills of management, marketing and promoting fashion labels, and scoping production options, both domestic and offshore. Students may be invited to organise a fashion parade event in collaboration with the Diploma of Styling and Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology students to showcase their collection to retail buyers and the media on the conclusion of the course. This parade is a great launch pad for students who wish to start their label and take orders on their first collection. On completion of the Advanced Diploma, students will be in a better position to obtain work within the fashion industry as they will have experienced the process of designing and developing a fashion range, through to the marketing and production stage. The Fashion & Textiles Merchandising course focuses more on the product development, marketing, merchandising and business skills. There is some overlap between the Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design & Technology course and the Advanced Diploma of Fashion & Textiles Merchandising course for example both courses cover fashion design and product development. For this reason it is good to look closely at both courses to determine which is right for you. The Applied Fashion Design & Technology course teaches students to design and produce their own garments learning sewing and patternmaking skills, whereas the Fashion & Textiles Merchandising course focuses more on the product development, marketing, merchandising and business skills. Students in the Fashion & Textiles Merchandising course only learn basic sewing and pattern making in order to understand the process. It is possible to do both courses (over two and a half years) for those students who would like to learn how to produce their own fashion designs as well as learn the business skills for running their own fashion label. Fashion Business & Styling FOR STUDENTS WITH A PARTICULAR IN- TEREST IN FASHION STYLING AND/OR WORKING FOR FASHION MAGAZINES... It is possible to combine your study with the Diploma of Styling. To find out what options are available please contact Admin at the Gold Coast Campus on 07 5593 8335. 2 3
