Kelvin Grove State College Uniform Policy Procedure Uniform is to be worn as supplied by the SUB shop. Middle School uniform for boys and girls must be worn to and from school. Sports uniform must be worn for all HPE or Sports lessons. Students must change into this uniform during the break before the scheduled class and back into their formal uniform during the break after the class. Sports uniform may be worn to and from school on the following days: - Wednesday for Years 7 and 8 only. - For Year 6 only, on their scheduled Health and Physical Education lesson day. - To and from athletics / swimming carnival days or district sporting events. A note from a parent/guardian must be produced for any infringement of the college uniform. Students are required to present this note to Student Services prior to 9.00am. Students who fail to have a note will be issued with a detention. Students who have a valid reason as explained in the note will receive a uniform slip which is to be carried with them during that day. Non-Uniform Days For the cost of a gold coin, the students of Kelvin Grove State College may come to school out of uniform once per term on an assigned day as per college calendar. Each Non Uniform Day is organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC). Monies collected are used by the SRC to support a range of projects. The code of dress for Non Uniform Day: Students must be neat and tidy. T-shirts with inappropriate print/slogans are not permitted. Immodest clothing, e.g. bare mid-riffs, low-cut clothing, and sleepwear (pyjamas) is not permitted. s must have sleeves those with shoe string straps are not permitted. In keeping with Workplace, Health & Safety regulations, leather shoes must be worn to Science, Manual Arts and Home Economics classes (Middle and Senior School Students only). No open shoes with open toes or thongs are allowed. Normal college rules regarding make-up and jewellery requirements in practical areas must still be met. Procedure Reminders of an impending Non Uniform Day will appear in Student and Staff notices and Newsletters. Students will also be reminded of the dress code on assemblies. On the day, SRC members/teachers will collect the gold coin (min. $1.00) from each student who is not in uniform. Students dressed inappropriately are referred immediately to Sub-school principals and may be sent home to dress appropriately. Students who have chosen to come in school uniform for the day may still donate money if they wish. All money collected is sent promptly to the SUB shop. Schools of Excellence Uniform Excellence uniform may only be worn to or from the College when: - An early training session commences before 8.00 am - An afternoon training session finishes after 4.00pm - Outside of these specific times students are expected to change into their regular college uniform Green Excellence caps may be worn at any time during physical activity. Excellence jackets are only worn at tournaments or for warming up, not with school uniform. If a student has Excellence in period 1 and physical education in either period 2 or 3, he/she may remain in their excellence uniform however must change back into formal uniform for period 4 even if there is after-school training.

Kelvin Grove State College Dress Code The Kelvin Grove State College P & C Association has established an appropriate uniform which is to be worn correctly every day. Students attending Kelvin Grove State College are required to maintain the highest standard of dress and grooming. In addition to the information provided for the uniform of each sub school the following applies: Boys and Girls Uniform For reasons of uniformity, all items with the exception of shoes (in the style specified), need to be purchased from our college s SUB Shop. Clothing is to be worn as supplied by the SUB shop, any changes, for example shortening of skirts, will not be approved. Hair Hair must be neat and tidy as attention seeking extremes of dress and appearance are not acceptable. Outlandish hair styles or unnatural hair colour (bleached or dyed) will not be permitted in the college. The following are considered unacceptable: - unnaturally coloured hair; blue, green bright orange/red, purple etc. - hair done in spikes, dreadlocks, Mohawk style etc. - hair that is shaved around the perimeters or in unusual patterns Students with long hair are to tie their hair back - red or green hair tie. Long hair defined as touching the shoulder. Hats / Caps The KGSC Cap is being phased out and new caps are no longer available for purchase. Students in the Middle School are encouraged to wear the hat for all outdoor activities Students in the middle are encouraged to wear a college hat/cap for all outdoor activities. The hat is compulsory for HPE and Sport as well as break times for Years 6 and 7. Jewellery Wrist watches. Two sleeper or studs per ear (inconspicuous gold or silver only). One small plain finger ring, inconspicuous nose stud (not ring); necklaces need to be of sufficient length that they are not visible. No other jewellery is permitted. No other visible piercings are permitted. Make-up and Nail Polish Light foundation and clear nail varnish are permitted. All other make-up and coloured nail varnish are not acceptable and should not be worn to school. Shoes In the Junior School, clean plain black leather closed in lace up / velcro shoes or black joggers only. In the Middle and Senior School, clean plain black leather lace up school shoes non laced black leather dress style shoes are permitted in the Senior School (refer to sub school specific information). Appropriate heel height for girls shoes approximately 3 cm. Mid and high-cut boots are not acceptable. Shoes for HPE/Sport may be a pair of sports sandshoes/joggers. Ties Neatly tied with length to the belt. No non-college approved pins/badges are to be placed on the tie. Winter No undershirts that are visible (at neck, sleeves or hip) are permitted. Singlets, very short sleeved undershirts or spencers are permitted proving they cannot be seen. College scarf only permitted. No other scarves, beanies or gloves are permitted. Students keep warm in winter with non-visible warm undergarments, college jumper, jacket or blazer. Non-compliance with the dress code (based on Education General Provisions Act 2006) A note from a parent/guardian must be produced for any infringement of the college uniform. Students are required to present this note to Student Services prior to 9.00am. Students who fail to have a note will be issued with a detention. Students who have a valid reason as explained in the note will receive a uniform slip which is to be carried with them during that day. All teachers speak to students in incorrect uniform, ask for uniform slip, and reinforce our uniform policy. e.g. student to change into appropriate uniform, teacher to confiscate jewellery, non-school coats, hats to be removed. A receipt will be given for confiscated jewellery and other items. If the student does not comply with this process as noted above, a detention will be issued each time they fail to comply with the dress code. If a student continues to be out of uniform and fails to complete the detention, this will be considered

as wilful disobedience and as such students may be suspended from school.
