www.artero.com ARTERO PROFESSIONAL THINNING SCISSORS THINNING SCISSORS Thinning scissors allow texturizing hair or removing added bulk as well as thinning it out so that the exterior of the hair layers blended look nice. These are formed by 1 regular cutting blade and 1 blade with teeth. With these thinning scissors you are able to cut 10% to 70% of the hair with just one or two cuts. The type of hardening will directly influence on the properties of the scissors. The steel with which the scissors are made of is one of the key aspects to the quality of the scissors, but this cannot be differentiated by the naked eye. 440C It is of Japanese origin and manufactured by Hitachi. The 440C is a high-end stainless steel with high hardness, good edge retention and high resistance to wear and corrosion. Its composition is 0.95-1.12% carbon, 1.0% manganese, 16-18% chromium, 0.75% molybdenum, 1.0% silicone. Its typical hardness is between 58 and HRC. ATS 314 It is of Japanese origin and manufactured by Hitachi. It is basically an improved version of the 440C adding molybdenum to its chemical composition, which improves corrosion resistance, wear resistance and cut retention. Its composition is 1.05% carbon, 0.5% manganese, 14% chromium, 4% molybdenum, 0.3% silicone. Its hardness can reach 63 HRC. VG -10 This high-grade steel produced by Takefu Special Steel, which owes the "G" of its designation to "Gold" (gold), in reference to its quality, was released to popularity by Japanese industry, and quickly became the favorite of the most outstanding manufacturers of cutlery worldwide. Its composition is 0.95-1.05% carbon, 0.50% manganese, 14.5-15.5% chromium, 0.10-0.3% vanadium, 0.9-1,2% molybdenum and 1.3-1.5% cobalt. Its typical hardness is between 59 and 61 HRC. With this steel, very thin edges are obtained and easily maintained, similar to VG-1. In fact, the VG-10 is an improved version of this, although with greater resistance to rust and wear by the elements, due to the content of cobalt and vanadium. Damascus Damascus steels are produced by forging welding of 2 or more different metals (usually steels), which after heating are welded joining the various plates. Later, the distinctive drawing is marked with acid, and the engraving of the metals reveals the layers and gives the contrast, the depth and the color. At the same time, it has the qualities of hardness and flexibility achieved by the union - by forging - of iron and steel. The advantages over other steels is its high wear resistance which allows it to obtain scissors with a permanently cutting edge attached to a good mechanical strength and a sturdy hardness. Cobalt Cobalt is a blue-white ferromagnetic metal. It is usually found along with nickel. Cobalt has numerous characteristics including: 1. High resistance to corrosion and stress at high temperatures. 2. High wear resistance. 3. High useful hardness. 4. Good tenacity. 19

The most difficult scissors to sharpen are razor-blade scissors because their blades are convex. A badly sharpened pair of scissors degrades the work of the professional user, that is why it is very important to perform sharpening as soon as the first symptoms in the cut are detected. Scissors should also be sharpened periodically. In ARTERO we recommend: Protect your scissors from possible falls, as their blades will be dam aged if they fall off. www.artero.com ARTERO LEFT-HANDED SCISSORS LEFT-HANDED SCISSORS Some hairdressers think that just by changing the position of the scissor this will be valid for left-handed. Logically, this is not the case, since a left-handed pair of scissors is designed completely in reverse to a right-handed scissors. In this way, the right movement and proper friction for the cutting action are produced. When a left-handed hairdresser uses a pair of right-handed scissors, he/she must simultaneously press the thumb and ring finger, in a quite unnatural way. Proper left handed scissors have the blades reversed so you can see your cutting line and get a clean cut. If the top blade is not on the left as you look while you are cutting, they are not for left-handed.
