EVENINGWEAR CLASSES STRAPLESS BODICE Prom. Bridesmaids. Sorority Formals. The strapless bodice is a staple in current eveningwear fashion. The point of the workshop is to walk away with a strapless pattern that will fit you and with the knowledge of what materials to use to support your body. Since this class is taught by Linda Sparks, author of The Basics of Corset Building, you can expect to learn some simple corset techniques which will guarantee your bodice will not slip or slide. Beginners will leave the class with a fitted pattern from which to make the boned bodice, and the knowledge of how to properly complete the project on your own. Advanced sewers will have the opportunity to complete the garment in class. Everyone receives personalized and group instruction from Linda. Friday evening, Linda will measure your bodies and discuss the construction techniques for the pattern, McCall s 4709. You will also consider how you want to redesign the look to make it your own. Saturday will be spent adjusting your pattern to fit your body and accommodate simple design changes as well as making a mock-up to test the fit of the pattern, finalizing pattern alterations, creating a new pattern from your mock-up and shopping for good fabric. Sunday should see you cutting into your good fabric and getting to a first fitting of your custom bodice. Not all students will get to this point, which is dependent on skill and focus. Class fee: $149, students will receive a $30 shopping credit to be used on purchasing supplies during class, such as muslin, bones and fashion fabric. She will explain the tools, materials and methods used to build a Victorian/Civil War corset. Fabric and boning choices will be discussed along with various methods of construction. Linda Sparks from Farthingales returns for this incredibly informative hands-on corset building workshop. This workshop is open to those who have attended Linda s 3-hour seminar. Focus will be on construction and fit: Pattern and fitting adjustments Fabric selection and treatment Boning selection and insertion Busk placement and attachment Two layer construction Adding your own style Inserting Eyelet Tape Cutting & sewing made easy This hands-on time with guidance and mini lecture/demos by Linda will leave you understanding the intricacies of corset building and inspired to create your own fabulous corsets. Not all students will complete the corset project, but you will have the knowledge and materials to finish on your own. SANDRA BETZINA Sandra Betzina, accomplished author of several sewing books, star of HGTV s Sew Perfect, and designer of Vogue Patterns Today s Fit with Sandra Betzina is coming to Vogue Fabrics for a weekend of fitting classes. Her informational seminars sold out the last time she visited. Register very early for these fabulous classes! Begin the class by trying on pant and/or jean slopers in different sizes to determine what size you are at the hip and waist. Sandra will then advise you as to what additional pattern alterations you will need for a flat seat, tummy, high and full hips, sway back, full thighs, etc. You will then cut out the pants or jeans from scrap fabric (like Vogue Fabrics $1.00 per yard Clearance Fabrics) or from Muslin. Fit will be refined. Alterations will be transferred to create a master pattern. You now have a pant or jean pattern which fits and can be made again and again. Students should bring a Today s Fit pant pattern purchased by your snug hip measurement. Sandra will bring all sizes of Vogue Pattern #7940 (flat front pant) and Vogue Pattern #7608 (jean pattern). In order to obtain accurate measurements, avoid wearing clothing that is too tight or it will distort your figure. Get tips on working on some of the new fabrics: stretch wovens, sheers, tulle, silks, stretch moleskin, vinyl, shearling and more. Learn when and how to underline. Learn how to make bias cuts work for you as well as how to prevent drag lines on seams and make invisible hems. Get the lowdown on appropriate seam and hem finishes for a variety of different fabrics. Learn how to make a pant front stay to flatten the tummy, jean pockets flawlessly, and a skirt or pant opening in a pocket. Then finally, learn how to insert flawless invisible zippers...whew! Sandra Betzina has designed a new sizing block for Vogue Patterns called Today s Fit with alphabetical rather than numerical sizing ranging from 34-1/2 to 57 inch hip. Come see for yourself. Try on the pretests for jackets. Get tips on fit, including alterations for large and small busts, narrow, sloping, or square shoulders, and rounded or sway back. Alterations will be recorded on a fitting worksheet to take home and apply to your pattern.
