Lesson 7 Makeup Finishing Touches with Tips & Tricks Highlighting & Contouring Available in an array of product types from powders to creams and varying in intensity. For a natural day look a very mild form of these products is required as you want to create a natural glow without drawing too much attention to it. Highlighting will make this area more pronounced and bring it forward. The product will illuminate the area it is applied to. Contouring is used to give depth and gives the face a much more defined appearance. Blusher Blusher is used to enhance the skins natural glow, work to highlight cheekbones and add warmth to the skin. Available in Cream, gel and powder form with powder being the most popular and having the widest variety of colours available as a result. Choosing the correct colour This will depend on the undertone of your skin warm/cool/neutral as outlined in the lesson on foundation. Cool skin tones pale pink & peach, sheer plum Warm skin tones Rose Apricot, Bronze, Deep Orange Neutral skin tones Berry, Peach, Apricot
Application Identify apple of your cheeks with a smile Pick up product to brush and shake off access Dust lightly on cheeks, ensure you blend properly Always best to use a little and build up the colour remember you can always add more but taking it off is way more difficult! Lips Will finish off and complete your makeup look. Tinted Lip Balm Nourishing ingredients like shea butter, Minimal pigment so won t last as long and frequent reapplication will be necessary Lip Liner - Increases longevity of lip products and will create more luscious sumptuous lips. Lip Gloss finishes the look with High gloss finish, similarly to tinted balm it has Less pigment than lipstick so will need to be reapplied regularly Lipstick - High pigment products with various finishes and increased longevity. This product will give the most dramatic of appearances Myths Makeup causes acne Myth If you cleanse properly, good quality makeup but wrong products can aggravate it Dry skin drink water Myth Dry skin Skin doesn t produce enough sebum. Dehydrated Skin Skin is lacking in water. Drinking water won t do any harm to dry skin but you will require a moisturiser that will replace the sebum that your skin isn t producing enough of Creams that work like Botox - Myth Botox is a toxin injected into the hypodermis working with the nerve endings to cut them off from functioning and inhibiting the muscles so you can t make as many facial expressions like frowning. Creams only work on the top layers of the skin so they can t work in the same way
Toothpaste as a spot cure - Myth Menthol dries out the skin surroundings the area without doing anything to clear the spot as it has no antibacterial qualities it will just leave you with red skin that dried out! There are some spot treatments that are specifically designed to do this will increase cell turnover and therefore be much more effective Vaseline & Baby Oil in skin and lip care The more you use the more you feel you need as it will sit on the skin like a layer of plastic disrupting the natural barrier function. It prevents absorption of other nutrients and it will actually draw moisture out of the skin having the opposite affect that we are looking for. Tips & Tricks Caring for your Makeup Brushes is vitally important and not doing so will lead to breakouts, it can also interfere with how your makeup looks and how long your brushes actually last. 1. Warm water cold won t break up all the dirt and grime and hot will interfere with the glue holding the bristles in place 2. Mild shampoo baby shampoo is perfect 3. Swirl brush on hand and rinse out thoroughly 4. Lay flat to dry on a towel 5. Once a week if working with strong pigments I would recommend washing straight after Flying Tips Apply serum and SPF - protect against UV rays through the window Fly makeup free if over 5 hours allows for easier application of more moisturiser Apply moisturiser all over All of your skin needs hydration Try to move to keep circulation going Keep circulations moving Drink lots of water not sugary drinks or caffeine Cabins are very drying so keep hydrated
Travel size toner in a small spritz bottle is amazing for ensuring skin is well nourished think of it like a drink of water for your skin Compressed towels will be very useful for cleansing skin during flight Lip Balm will protect the delicate skin on your lips. The acid mantle of your skin, this is the barrier responsible for keeping lipids and moisture in, which keeps out germs, pollution, toxins and bacteria Individual Tips & Tricks (additional tips from slides) Fix Broken Compact powders by adding a little isopropyl alcohol into the powder until it forms a paste. Press into the original container and let set over night. Fix Broken lipsticks with a little heat being careful to melt the lipstick but not burn the product
Mascara wands can be used as new brow brush when cleaned or separate your lash hairs after applying mascara. Makeup Expires this is from the time that you first open it, a lot of products will have individually expiry or best before dates outlined on the packaging Notes
